Hi...

I'm one of the under 3.0's 😎

Anyway, I am in Biochemistry I, Microbiology, and Developmental Anatomy. I want to take only 2 because I'm also studying for the DAT.

But the question is, which 2? 🙁 I need to retake Organic Chemistry I and II in the summer... (Orgo I is not being offered now.) My Orgo is good now, so Biochem might actually be doable.

And I'm also going to apply to Bio masters programs...

Thanks so much

take all your pre-req's over and do any upper division classes, as many as possible. this will boost your sci and non-sci gpa's

You're in the same situation I'm in. You need a good foundation in organic I and II to do well in biochem, because profs teaching that class assume you have all knowledge of organic before taking it. I'm retaking Organic II and taking biochem at the same time, and having to really bust my butt in order to keep up in biochem since i did terrible in organic II. Just keep that in mind. :luck:

Thanks a lot, Iceman... I was looking for this kind of advice. 2 Bio's it is ;-)

Good luck this semester!!!

I am in a similar situation....but my gpa is not a concern (over 3.0). Right now I am in an MS program (hoping not to come back for the 2nd year of the program...ie get into dental school for Fall '05...my advisor understands this). I signed up to take Immunology, Biochemistry, and Microbiology. If a combination of three graduate level Biology courses are taken (including these three classes) I could earn a certificate in May (not sure how relevant that is). I am concerned that I will not do as well as I would like to do and feel if I took Micro and Biochem alone I could get 2 A's. Also, I realize Immunology is not a "course" (right?) in dental school, but you do go over a fair deal of background (a friend told me about 10 weeks worth). My question is do you think this load is doable (ie can I get a 4.0 or close to it) or am I wasting my time and is Immunology not that important to take before entering school? I guess I am worried that I will not do as well as I would like to do with those 3 courses (by the way I do realize in dental school each student has somewhere in the neighborhood of 25 credits per semester.....but you do the best you can and dont worry about getting A's.....unless you really want to specialize from day one) and with 2 courses I know Iwould do well. Any thoughts?

No prob salut03, and good luck this semester. I kinda wish now that I had signed up for micro or something instead of biochem for the reasons I just said. Oh well!

And to answer the above question, I think you should do what you think you can handle. I've heard from everyone that adcoms look highly upon someone who takes a full load of sciences and does well. But on the other hand, a full load and NOT doing well looks worse than taking a couple classes and doing well IMO. If you ask me, 3 is not too many classes to take at once, I took anatomy, chemistry, and physics II last semester and did ok (A, B, B). So I would take the 3 classes, but do what you think YOU can handle and do well in, thats what matters. :luck:
