Hi everyone,
I really need some help. Im an undergrad at upenn (will be a junior next fall) and have managed to really really screw my gpa up. It was a combination of taking the more difficult classes in the wrong combination and also just not being ready for that intensity.

Can anyone recommend some easy A classes!!? I am absolutely desperate to bring my gpa up 🙁

Easy 'A' classes at Penn-

NURS 331: Forensic Mental Health
NURS 333: Victimology
BFMD 073: Studies in Infectious Diseases (under the registrar's website, it hsould be be Ben Franklin Seminars-Med. Dr. HElen Davies teaches this class. It's a very hard class to get into. You need to email Dr. Davies and tell her that you're trying to get into her class and can't. She'll help you get in). You can also include this in your science GPA!

are two great ones, i don't know anyone who didn't get an A or A-

sleep and chronobiology with dinges (only with dinges!)
it's pretty interesting too and once a week. bibb 3--something i believe.

cgs biochem is not bad either, if u wanna get a "hardcore" class in there.

Yeah those two BBB fluharty classes are pretty easy (really interesting too). At your discretion, you can also include them in your science gpa

When I was at Penn (about a million years ago ) they offered " Mime "....I can't beleive Dr. Dinges still teaches that sleep class....it was pretty cool. The names escape me, but some of the advanced biological anthropology courses were good.....i think class is held at the museum, but i dont believe there is any difference in registration procedure.

well, it depends i think. what are your relative strengths in humanities? for instance, i love english and i'd recommend english classes but others i know hate english/literature.

all the humanities classes i took at penn were either english or history. i think in this case the professor's name would be more helpful than the course itself since these courses always change names/subjects. anyway post if you want some names.

im sure those pop culture classes in soc dept are probably fun and not too taxing?

oh speaking of professors, you should take a class with shatte in psych. easiest A you will ever get, and he makes the class pretty interesting and interactive for a 500 person lecture.

yes, id love the name of some proffs. I enjoy english classes as well but not when the proffs are super anal and too demanding. i usually take humanities classes as a break from the sciences so id hate to enroll in a class that was just as demanding...

I agree that Shatt? is a great lecturer and makes class fun and interactive. However, the easy A thing is very subjective. The class is curved, so only a certain percentage of the class (of 500) will get As, a certain percentage will get Bs, etc. all based upon recommendation set forth by the College. Just something to keep in mind - but DO TAKE THE CLASS - he is a great teacher.

Oh - for an easy A - take Chem 221 (and if you like it, Chem 222). Trust me, if it isn't required and you took it (and got an A), medical school admission committees will certainly take notice. (it will also help on the PS section of the MCAT)

Note: please speak to Chem/biochem majors about chem 221 before jumping into this course. For some strange reason, physical chemistry has a unique reputation for being challenging and difficult.

umm i highly doubt that taking physical chem will be a good idea in terms of boosting my gpa. out of all classes i could take!

humanities: some of the antrhopology, history of medicine, and sociology classes are notoriously easy. same with folklore. i don't know any of the professors by name, but just check out the online course review.

another thing: you can almost never go wrong with CGS classes. I've found profs teaching CGS to do a better job. additionally, the demographics of the students taking CGS classes are totally different (a lot of them have full-time day jobs), so the profs' expectations of you are not as high as if you took the same exact class during the day. additionally, the classes meet late in the day and usually only once a week

I graduated from Penn a few years ago...

I took an education class called something like "Literature for Children & Adolescents" It was a fun class (children's books) and an easy A.

I also took Victimology... same story.
