Undergraduate honors and medical school admission??

I was wondering if anybody has thoughts on whether undergraduate honors degrees give an advantage (or disadvantage; or no help at all) when applying to medical school.

The program I am in requires students to do extra work for what seems like little return. Also a year long thesis is required and I currently want to study abroad and take my mcat in that year and don't know if the extra workload will be worth my time.

It won't be worth your time for med school admissions purposes. "Honors" qualification vary widely among schools. For some it's just GPA-based, and others, like yours, tack on onerous additional requirements. Your application GPA speaks for itself. The rest is just for the sake of an additional Honors Cord on your graduation garb and parental bragging rights.
