A medical school admissions board member once told me that asian females qualified as minorities in med school applications. However, I thought asians were always at a disadvantage with apps because while females may be a minorities, asian females and males are the majority with apps?

Hmong, Cambodians and some Pacific islanders may be considered UiM at a particular school.
Women in these groups are especially needed.
Asian women as a general group are extremely well represented, though. It's not a disadvantage, it's just not UiM. "Under-represented in Medicine" is not the same as being a "minority" in the US.
