Hi all! I just got off KCU's ( Kansas City location) waitlist while preparing to make my move up to UNE. I already have a lease and roommates in Maine but I am considering choosing KCU. I have until tomorrow to respond to KCU so I'd love this thread's help in choosing a school. I'm a New York native and would like to practice medicine in the North East but I also have interests in both primary care and competitive specialties ( anesthesia ) that might make KCU a better choice

UNE
Pros
- Close to home, a 5-hour drive, 1.5-hour flight
- Honors, Pass, Fail
- Students are not ranked
- Nonmandatory classes, recorded lectures
- Visited Maine and thought it was super cute ( although a bit too rural)
- nmobe based exams ( according to a student, correct me if I'm wrong )
- Match more students in the North East

Cons:
- Expensive: 64,000 in tuition
- More hours of OMM ( 4 hours a week I believe)
- Some students say the frequency of assessments and exams is a bit excessive
- More primary care focused

Neutral
- Integrated curriculum
- Smaller class size: 170

KCU
Pros
- More affordable: 53,760 in tuition
- More diverse student population
- Honors, Pass, Fail
- Nonmandatory classes, recorded lectures
- GME
- Fewer hours of OMM

Cons
- Far from home, a 19-hour drive, 3.5-hour flight
- In-house exams
- Reputation for having a rough curriculum
- Students are ranked
- Area isn't as safe as Southern Maine
- I've never been to the midwest!

Neutral
- Systems curriculum
- Larger class size: 269

KCU is cheaper and has fewer OMM hours. Given how busy med school is, 1.5 hr vs 3.5 hr flight is more or less the same, similarly, a 5 hr drive home after a block exam just sounds so draining, you’d probably just take a flight anyways, I would go with KCU

KCU, agree with the above. You have to get to the airport and set aside time for security so flight time isn't really much of an issue. The airport is probably farther out at UNE too. Might as well save on the tuition.
