*^*UNECOM Class of 2011*^*

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Really - one of those there sphygmomamommomemeters?? How are we s'posed to buy something we can't say?? Hmm - guess I'd better get used to it for a while....

So - someone with NO science background should be taking.... everything? Immuno, A & P, etc., etc.... ??

Um...you'll be fine, I swear 😉
If you know what this is I'll send you a tongue depressor:
Hydrocollator

NO googling now...😱

Smart alex... you know the name of the lighty eye and ear thingy. That will surely impress the new kids on the block. I am always going to refer to it as expensive flashlight for eye, nose, ear... EFENE

You will need something to chat with people while in class.. so make sure you have that. Fozzie and I have camera built in our Macs so we can have live face to face conversations with others... or when in class they can talk and you can type them with MSN ...

You will definitely need build in wireless... recall MSN.. chatting.. shopping online.

Don't need books... just take labtop... I realize that Books too heavy to bring with us. You will need the Board Review Books. They are great (but don''t buy them now).

----- HAAAA the hardest thing you negotiated is getting in to medical school. It is A TRAP.. RUNNNN .. hehehehe.. no having kids is probably the hardest ever.. that is why Shyrem is so cool under pressure.

HAHA
Bill, where are you? I'm beating you in hyper-posting. Just kidding 😀
Yeah so...um..Bill, need I remind you about the questionable material you glance at and purchase during classes? 😉 And about that built in camera thingy...

Y'know, that "cool under pressure" is just a front for the chronic exhaustion of only getting 4-5 hours of sleep a night. 😉

Hey there future UNECOMers,
First office congratulations for your acceptance. I currently am a fourth year and retired fellow and can tell you that you made a great choice.
I am posting because I am in my last year and my family and I have decided to put our HOUSE on the market. We would like to avoid the cost and hassel of selling through a real estate agent. We put it up for a couple months in the fall but our son got sick and we took it down. Now he is recovering and we are focusing back on the house. We bought the house when we first moved here, I have sinced remodeled and updated the house.

Here are the specs:
3 Bedrooms
1.5 Bathrooms
1368 square feet.
Brand new kitchen with dishwasher, garbage disposal, stove, microwave, fridge with ice maker
Brand new windows on first floors
Full cellar with new windows
Full walk in attic with new floor (we use it for storage, could be finished into 4th bedroom or game room)
HUGE fenced in backyard.... great for kids to run around!
Large drive way (we have fit 6 SUV in it at one time)
Ethernet plugins in each room... totally computer ready
Roof is less than 10 years old
Furnace is less than 10 years old
New porch on front of house
Deck on back of house overlooking back yard
Shed in back yard
And much more.........

This would be a great investment for a family coming to maine or someone who wants to buy some real estate for investment and rent it out or get some roommates. The house is a single family attached home. It is much like a duplex but HUGE, 1300 square feet and three floors.

We are asking $170,000 with some marginal room for negotiations.

If anyone is looking for a house and would like more info and pictures, please contact me @ [email protected]. I have family in the real estate business that could help you get a loan and a family member who can do all the paper work.

Only serious inquiries please and good luck with your transition to UNECOM!

WHAT??! We gotta get one of THOSE for school, too??!! 😱
No really - what are we payin' tuition for if we have to buy all this stuff??!!

TO join the club. What kind of music are we playing!!!!

Flag Football team forming against the 2nd years, who is in?!?!?

Deffinitely am in. Great idea Doc. So it seems as though our class has gotten quite large. With the deposit due tomorrow, how many have actually sent it in and are true members of the class? Not to discount anyone who is still deciding, just trying to see who we will deffinitely see next fall.

In other news, hope that everyone is doing well. Have a great and healthy holiday season. Be safe and enjoy yourselves. After the new year, the gf and I are going to be heading up to Maine to check out the area and look at places to live. Does anyone else have significant others that are going to be moving to Maine and trudging through our journey with us? My gf wont know anyone in the area so it would be great to have some friends in the area. Drop me a line if you are interested in chatting. Take care.

Ok, so where is everyone else?? Show yourselves!!

redwings, I will also be making a trip up north with my boyfriend (who's from NJ and has never been to Maine--hope he likes it!) to check out some possible apts and houses. Hopefully we'll be up on a weekend in January or February. If it coincides with your trip I would love to meet up with you and your girlfriend.

I am contemplating taking a course next semester (maybe immunology)...but with undergraduate and my post-bac program I feel like I've been in school forever and might need a break. Anyone taking classes next semester?

Hello all,
I just received my acceptance to UNECOM this morning!!
I was stoked. The energy I felt on my interview day was palpable and I hope it continues indefinitely. I am looking forward to meeting the rest of you soon.

Take me off the list, beachbunny. I've decided to go to NYCOM over UNECOM. It was a really tough decision, but in the end, I figured it made sense for me to be able to do rotations in the area I want to practice in so I could make contacts or what have you. Anyways, goold luck ya'll at UNECOM, I'm sure you guys will all love it.

So with the deposit deadline having passed, how many have sent in deposits yet? I sent mine in and got the confirmation today. That was a blow to the bank account.

How is everyone out there doing? Hope that you all have a great holiday season. Take care and hope to see some of you in the new year. Where is everyone from? I am from NH personally.

Quick question: Does UNECOM have precetorship during the first year?

Thanks!

Yeah, I'm still in the midst of battle; I think I'll have to see what observations you make when you revisit the school:laugh:
I should ask for a discounted rate since I seem like I'm going for a bunch of people. lol.

I sent in my UNECOM deposit. I am still waiting on a couple schools that tempt me including CU (instate tuition, new campus, CO!!!-we got 3 ft of snow at my house last night!!), UVM, OSHU, and Dartmouth. I just want to see what my options are at the end of the process.

I hope I know more before I have to pay the next UNE deposit..

If I end up at UNE I will be most happy-I really enjoyed the visit and I grew up one hour away near Conway, NH and went to HS and college in Maine so I am very familiar with the area

Hi, I'm so excited to have just accepted an offer to be in UNECOM's class of 2011!! YAY! I'm from Baltimore, MD and am looking for potential roommates. Let me know if you're interested!

Hi everyone! Accidentally found out that I was accepted to UNECOM in November. I actually called to follow-up on a recommendation that was sent, and they told me my file was closed. I was completely bummed b/c I thought this meant I was rejected. Much to my delight, they proceeded to tell me I was accepted! woohoo! See everyone in the Fall! Is anyone looking for roommates? I am trying to figure out my housing situation?

Any recommendation on where to live? I am from Boston where rent is quite high. $375/month would be a rat-infested apt. in my area. Are the cheaper apt. in Biddeford still nice, or are there any areas I should avoid?

Sorry for all the questions! I am so excited and eager to prepare for my first semester!

Thanks for all supply lists..I am stocking up on some Nitrile gloves. Are those ok for anatomy lab?

lets start exchanging AIM names and what not... start chattin.. etc.. what not🙂 just an idea! mines CPalmah... facebookers out there???

Right on, UNEGUY! We are the official class of 2011! I am most certain that we will be spending oodles of time together, and it's a great idea to start getting to know eachother! Unfortunately, I don't have facebook or myspace. Maybe those who do should start listing their screennames, and we can all start chatting.
I would not be opposed for a bunch of us meeting up for drinks, either.
Let's get EXCITED!!!

Yeah.. screen names.. myspaces.. facebookies.. I was told by a first year that the frist 3 weeks are GREAT.. i guess we do alot to spend some FUN time together.. goin out.. etc.. 🙂 It's gonna be a good time!

i sent in my deposit a few weeks so i'm now officially in the class of 2011. i'm looking forward to meeting everyone and getting started in the fall and especially looking forward to quitting my job and honing my xbox skills this summer.

Hey guys! My screenname is strawbear25! Hope to talk to some of you soon! 🙂

I will start.

I am Gabriel I am 32 years old. I am married and have 3 girls (6, 3, and 8 months). For the next 6 months I will completing my career as a molecular biologist at a cancer hospital in NYC. I graduated from Rutgers University in 1997 with a degree in Biotechnology and will be defending my masters thesis in the next month or two to get my masters in biology from Fairleigh Dickinson University in NJ. I have been an EMT for over 15 years and love every minute of it.

I enjoy gardening, fishing, and working with my hands. I enjoy watching football and playing a pickup game too.

I am looking to enter into Emergency Medicine or Family Practice. I just sold my house and I am excited about going to medical school. Oh, and I am a guy.

Hi! I'm Kristin from Cape Cod, Mass. I'm 27...soon to be 28...I am not married but may be engaged sometime this year...we'll see. 🙂
I graduated from Villanova University in 2001 with a BA in Communication and a concentration in Rhetoric and Performance Art. I did the whole show biz thing in NYC after college and worked evenings at the New York Organ Donor Network as a coordinator in the Tissue Department and as a standardized patient for med students at UMDNJ.
Currently, I'm back in MA working at Cape Cod Hospital as a tech aid in radiology and as a medical transcriptionist for the ER. I've been an EMT for almost 10 years and used to work as a technician in the ER during college.
I finished a premed post-bacc program at UMASS Boston last year--a commute I am thrilled to be done with! This month I'm moving back to the NYC area to enjoy my last few months honing my acting skills and using up the rest of my headshots!
My favorite hobbies are yoga, pilates, working out, going to the beach to collect shells and beach glass (yes, even in the winter!), learning how to cook (especially Thai food--yum!) and I'm starting to figure skate again after being off the ice for a few years. In Maine, I look forward to skiing, hiking, and surfing.
That pretty much sums me up....I am soooooo excited to start school and meet all of you!

i did the post bacc program with beachbunny and i can tell you that she is the best! ...sweetest person i met in boston!! 🙂 too bad we're going to be on opposite ends of the country! (fyi beachbunny..still no word from ccom 😳 )

Ok, guess I will go too. My name is Rob and I live in a small town in New Hampshire. I am 24, went to a small liberal arts college in NY and now teach at a school for kids with autism or neurological/behavioral disorders, and behavioral/emotional disorders. Its really 2 schools in one, but above all else, its challenging, demanding, heart breaking, very intense and the best job I have ever had in my life. 😀 I am in a relationship with my girlfriend, also a special ed teacher, and will most likely be moving up to Maine with her and her incredible dog. And like Kristin, we are not engaged but most likely will be before the year is out. 😍

As for what I have done in my past, well, its been varied. In college, I played rugby for 4 years, did research in inorganic biochemistry, was an RA, and won a fellowship to study holistic medicine and shamanism in Russia and Scotland. So after I graduated, I ventured off to Russia and up to Siberia studying with a little old Russian lady in a rickety old building. Even got to play with a baby brown bear. Then I lived in Edinburgh, Scotland, for about 3 months studying with two Shamans and taking in clients. Absolutely crazy but incredibly enlightening. I then did some studying with William Bloom, the UK's leading holistic practitioner, and worked on the connection between hope and believing and activating neurotransmitters and the ANS to battle illness.

After I got back to the States, I worked as a phlebotomist, then a waiter and now a teacher. I got my EMT certification and have been on a few cool runs. Shadowed some docs and saw some awesome surgeries. And now I am relaxing, watching the PATS!!!! hitting the gym, playing with my girlfriend and her doggie, boxing, kayaking and just trying to be active. Sorry this is so long, never knew I had so much to say about myself 😱 Here is my MySpace and my AIM name is robparker54. Drop me a line if you want. Take care.

Congrats Rob!!

I'll go ahead and introduce myself even though I'm not completely sure of whether I'll be going to NOVA or UNE, both have it's ups and downs

My name is Shivani, I'm 23, and I'm from Ohio. I did my undergrad at Ohio State, ran a science outreach program there (it was amazing!) and now I'm currently in a one year Master's Program at the University of Cincinnati.
Let's see...I like being outdoors and outdoor activities (anyone into climbing?), spending time with friends and mostly enjoying life.
It seems that unlike most people here, I'm single and I have to say, I do enjoy it.
Hope to hear from you all soon!
