I'm currently applying to UNECOM, and I was wondering if I could get some input/experiences/thoughts on how the school is from current DO students or alumni--student life, faculty, educational focus, Maine, and overall experience. I would really appreciate any input. Thanks.

I think it's a good school with a lot of opportunities for being a great school.

You're welcome to send me a PM with specific questions.
Also, have you checked out the respective class threads for UNECOM in the class thread sub forum of the osteopathic forum?

I'm such a rookie.. I totally screwed up the quote thing! :boom:

What do you think keeps it from being a "great" school?

I'm very happy with UNECOM. However, I think the school could better capitalize on their unique situation for an osteopathic school: they're in a relatively rural state with no competing MD medical school and no competing public health program.

I think they could easily take better advantage of these opportunities to produce exceptional translational public health research and be a leader in primary care education... instead of just a "good, little regional medical school."

That makes sense- thanks for the imput. 👍

UNECOM is a GREAT school...so far in my first week I have the sense that the MS2s, faculty and Deans really care about us...the orientation was great! Love this school and the way they account for student needs

Ah, the innocence of youth. Then again, I was the one the class always looked to for asking the difficult questions or sending the emails other folks were just too scared to ask/send. I tend to hold people accountable for their actions (or lack thereof), whether that means sitting outside the President's office waiting for them to come in and get a straight answer, the Dean's office, or asking the Dean candidates the same question three times in a row because they didn't answer it the first time.

On the other hand, I think my class got the brunt of the changes in progress. We were the "guinea pig" class, and continue to have changes thrown at us after deadlines, after plans were made, after promises of dates, times, places. Administration just doesn't have their stuff together for my class. It appears to be better for the classes beneath mine. At least I hope it's better for y'all.

Let us know how the new anatomy schedule and the new Dean does for you throughout the first year.

Completely agree. 👍
I hope clinical rotations are a little smoother for you.
