that is just ridiculous - my in laws live on long island - house is valued at 5x that but taxes are only double- so are you sure?

This house here down the street has property taxes of 11 K + , estimated market value is 215 K

It is a beautiful large old house with beautiful interior woodwork ( a few years ago it was listed in the 300s and I remember property taxes were about 17 K. It did not sell and the price and taxes came way down).
However I did find a few approx 100 K houses with prop taxes lower than what I quoted. A lot of prop tax assessments have come way down the last year or two. Maybe assessors are finally realizing the recent decline in value of NY state real estate.

I was eligible for funemployment in the first quarter of this year. I was actually kinda jazzed with the idea of taking 4-6 weeks off. Then I found out how much I was eligible for (490 dollars a week) and it didn’t seem very fun anymore. I changed my mind pretty fast.
I don’t know, $490/week just to enjoy life? I could handle that I think. Sadly the 4-6 weeks is a deal breaker for me. I intend to live a little longer than that.
New Air Force and Navy officers get selected for pilot training and get trained by the military...Then they serve a commitment of "x" years depending...THEN if they want to leave the military they apply to airlines for civilian pilot jobs. Generally, military pilots flee the military for the airlines if they can....
It’s true - if it were just me I could do that. I could even supplement with a lemonade stand or something. But I have 5 that depend on me 100%. 490 a week would make things kinda interesting. My wife can spend that on one purse .

I actually was discussing this with my husband today. If we move back to our 3 bedroom house (mortgage free now) which is 25 minutes from our current house (over $4K mortgage and other expense monthly, in a better school district), I don’t need to work. I can drive kids to current school, volunteer in school, and do something I like. Anyhow, his income finally exceeded mine this year. We are paying too much tax and work too much.
eBay business - roughly 2 more years at my current pace and the business will be self sustainable where I can be anywhere in the world drinking coffee from a cafe, day trading on eBay.

Happy to answer privately as most in my pharmacy world know that this is my side hustle. Let’s just say through investing all income after living expenses 10 months post residency into this, I’m turning money at a 40% ROI consistently every 4 months. Nearing $12-15k sales consistently/month for the past 6 months, so it’s working.

I have updated this thread to include why do you want to quit pharmacy, job and industry altogether. When Im making a plan B or quitting I get why did you enter pharmacy school. Honestly it was to help patients, and I still do , but the stability isnt there anymore, thats the major factor.
well it depends job stability, mentor inspired me, I was working hospital outpatient, and inpatient. For CVS pharm I dont care about the patients but at independents I really do hospitial I did care about the patients as well
depends on the situtation but I think on a lie test, patient and job stability would be main reason
if you dont believe me, pharmacy is just a stepping stone to something bigger. I have a checklist of list of things to do before I die and I dont plan to stay here for long. The saturation provided me a perfect chance to explore other things. Im willing to take a pay cut if it allows me more freedom to explore other creative things. I always wanted to live like goethe
And yes my patients actually buy me food and teach me about their culture. Its amazing, very sad to disappoint,
My other goal is travel around and make connections to people and increase my talent in every area. Maybe that's my self actualization. and I met good people along the way

its funny too because if you became a professor its to teach, if you end up in industry you will blame money. Its a important aspect of life, but I have seen that money doesnt mean much in other countries with a socialist system

You can do GPA CPR. They are screwed because they cannot take more loans and having a terrible GPA makes matters worse. The main problem for those students would be lack of pharmacy work experience. All of ADCOMS would question why one didn’t work as a pharmacist with a PharmD but worked as a EMT.
And there is the option of CS engineering.

I'm guessing this is no longer the case.
Anyone trying to find the one surefire all-problem-proof profession is doomed to fail, and I won't even feel sorry for them. Key is to develop a diverse skill set and soft skills so you can adapt to whatever life throws at you. The only certain thing in life is change.

Doctors
Midlevels
Nurses
Grocery store workers
Emergency workers (police, fire, EMT etc)
Public works
Tradesman
Military
Bankers
Might want to get an update on the airline pilot route......at least for now a LOT of planes are parked on a ramp somewhere...

I left active pharmacy practice in 2012, or rather, it left me. I'm still licensed but have no plans to go back to it.

That's actually one of the least secure jobs out there. They get laid off all the time. They are usually able to find another job but they usually don't stay at one place for long.

yes, American just announced yesterday they were going to layoff 30% of their high level managers by October and are trying to persuade them to accept voluntary layoff packages.
