As you can see, my red dot is closer to a yellow dot than their green dot, ergo a move there would drastically decrease my quality of life. A mapquest directions search revealed a 5-hour drive time to the nearest D&Bs vs. a 65-minute drive for me right now. Ok, you got me, if I lived there, I would probably go crazy.

Hey guys, I got my letter today. I was denied entrance here. But I want to go to pharmacy school really bad, so I closed my eyes and prayed "Dear 8 lb 6 oz newborn infant Jesus.......please let me open my eyes and this be an acceptance letter........."

Well....I opened my eyes, and the first line read: "Congratulations! On behalf of the Admissions Committee, I am pleased to inform you thta you have been accepted to the Doctor of Pharmacy Program at UACP".........

hahaha.......it was the clorox from cleaning........good luck guys! Hopefully I'll see you guys next year!!

Congratulations on your letter! I've always known that you would get one! That's awesome. Now you,Lin and I can all be roommates! LoL 😀

hey congrats on those who got accepted. I did not get accepted. I was wondering what you guy's stats were...or what you think the criteria is that this school is looking for. I got accepted at another school so im not that bumbed but i am still confused...i really thought my interview went well.

So far out of 6 of us that carpooled together on December 2, 2006 interview...5 of us got in! That's awesome guys! I look forward to re-uniting with you guys once again if we all decide to attend University of Appalachia! 😀

I was denied but my stats were low...3.3 and pcat 33. What were your stats and where did you get accepted?

I GOT in 🙂 yeah! I live in LA. december 16th interview

Hey congrats on everyone that got in. If you don't mind me asking, what are all of your stats? Thanks.

Oh, I got in and my stats were 3.2 gpa and 63 pcat ( i know, low). 1st time applicant.

Is anybody worried about the changing of the dean and the school's "cautionary status"? I talked to a former student on SDN who left the school because of that situation and "other reasons". 😕 jw, thanks.🙂

3.55 Gpa, 87 Pcat...

Not at all....They already have an established Law School and how many pharmacy school actually have an "M.D" *medical doctor* as the dean of the pharmacy school? I know the dean of the University of Appalachia has a medical doctor as the dean!! Whitney Caudill is also a "licensed attorney" who teaches pharmacy law at the pharmacy school. They have strong faculty members at the school and I'm certain that the status will change into an accredited pharmacy school very soon!!

gpa 3.3, pcat 65

i think it depends on where you came from and that LONG ass supplemental, if you can finish it, they should just accept you. (i know it wasn't the essay we have to write during the interview, cause i was too nervous and cold to write anything decent).

my stats: 3.35 GPA, 93 PCAT

congrats to all those who were accepted! 👍

Hello soon to be fellow UACP students!
I just wanted to say congratulations!
If anyone has any questions about the area, where to live, what to bring, etc. please let me know!

I think the Law school is seperate from UACP, b/c it's called "appalachian school of law" or something.😳

i'm in a pickle right now, i'm having second thoughts about the school accreditation status, and i really do want to go to pharm school and i'm afraid if i turn this chance down i'll regret it. By the way my stats GPA. 3.28 and PCAT 78%.

Hi guys , congr. fro every one got into Applachia pharmacy school. I am wondering what were you stat. because I had GPA of 3.8 PCAT 70 and two previous degrees in science and certified Ph. tech and I did well in the interview , yet I did not get in. any body can tell me what they did to get in .

If I were you guys, I wouldn't worry so much about accreditation. The staff is working so hard to get everything ready for our visit in spring. Also, even if we don't get it this year, you will have a 3 year window in which to get it. The accreditation committee visits in October and April every year. They did not visit in Oct of this year due to us having a new dean. PM me with any other questions.

You know...Don't take this the wrong way..but I'm just going to be blunt...You know as well as I did that it wasn't accredited when we both applied at first. We both know what the consequences would be if it got shut down..yet we both still applied. If anyone is worried about the accreditation then please turn over your acceptance to someone who is 100% optimistic and will take that chance to pursue their dreams. Don't hang on to the acceptance if you are having doubts. In life you have to take risks. If you take life too dang serious you will never ever get out of life. I know most people apply to this school as a back up and some applied because their stats are low. I'm not gonna lie..I'm one of those who fall into one of those categories. I have other offers from other pharmacy schools but I still sent in my deposit because I am leaning towards attending UACP (even though it's not accredited). Out of all the places I've interviewed, UACP gave me with a warm welcome. I have faith in the school system and staff members. If you would read the website from time to time, UACP receives many many donations to the school. Another example would be Howard University, that school was once accredited and now look at it..it's been on probation TWICE!! Howard is still alive and kicking isn't it?? It's not like the accrediation board wants to walk in one day and shut down as many pharmacy schools as they can. They will work with the school as long as the school is showing their hardwork dedication to make it happen. I know that the faculty member are working around the clock to make it happen. I've said it before and I'll say it again...I'm certain that they will indeed get their full accreditation.

Just go to UACP, LaoSaint, if that is the only school that accepts you. But I see that you have gotten into Nova. Is it cheaper going there than Nova? I see that you got in there. Nova has been around for a much longer time.

If cheaper, then go to UACP over Nova.

Did you apply to any three year-programs?

I have been accepted to Nova Southeastern, Touro University (3 year), and University of Appalachia ( 2 yr 10 months).

I will make a decision on which one to attend after new years. I feel bad hanging on to the spot at other schools while others are still waiting. I can't always be the saint in deciding quick because last time I checked I'm not the only person who's hanging on to multiple spots. I have already declined Touro University and I know for a fact that my decision to decline opened up one extra spot for others to follow their dreams. It's a really tough decision right now between Nova and Appalachia. Both have their positives and negatives. Those who know me knows exactly what I am talking about. But one things for sure, I like uacp because during my interview there, I've met so many nice people who gave me the comfort that I have been lacking for a while. I almost canceled my interview because I at first was being judgemental. I only went because my ticket was non-refundable and no voucher would be issued if I had missed it. I have no regrets and I am very glad I went. I had the opportunity to make new friends. The friends I've car-pooled with and hung out with are one of my new best friends ever. I would have never crossed path with them had I not gone. As I've said above out of 6 of us that interviewed 5 of us are in! It's like we are like family. Seems as if we have known one another for years and the vibes that UACP gave me was very welcoming as well. Things happens for a reason and I'm very glad that I crossed paths with each and everyone of you I met at UACP. I'm sure you guys know who you are!!! 🙂

P.S and of course MONEY is a major issue when deciding. I can live an exciting fun life while going to school in Florida next to the beach and graduate with over $150,000 debt or I can graduate from UACP with less than <150K debt and live a good life in Florida with all the money that I saved!

See i agree with you Lao, and i am in the same situation with you too, i know i'm not the greatest canidate as a pharmacy student, and yea i put myself out there hoping that i will get accepted. This is my dream all my life. For the past 3 years i changed my life alot and i felt that i have matured through the process. I do want to become a pharmacist, i know that this is the profession for me and everything. And yea there are risks in life and i'm trying to be optimistic about the situation, but i also need to take in consideration with my family situation, because they are still supporting me and a older member in my prepharmacy club was in that school in hawaii and the officers informed us to be cautious of his situation after that school shut down, and i know the board isn't here to shut down schools for fun. I'm pretty sure the board wants all un acredited schools to be sucessful, but sometimes things don't work out because of limitations such as funding or other resources. If somebody knows about that Hawaii school, why it was shut down can some one please give the 411 on it. I really do want to go to a pharmacy school this year so bad, i'm not afraid of taking on the struggles of studying and staying on focus. I'm just afraid that the path i follow might not work thats all.

Hey AznGTO,

I think Hawaii lost their accreditation due to them being dishonest to the Accrediting Committee and the students. I don't think you have anything to worry about. UOA would not have qualified for precandidate status if the accrediting committee was going to just boot them out at the end. They are honest and working really hard to make this happen in their community. So the students that attend or will be attending need to keep an optimistic view of their progress too. I can understand your worry, because no one really knows what will happen. They have a strong staff, and many of the newer members have left very stable jobs to work towards this goal. They would not do this if they thought this wasn't going to work out. So though I have had my relapsing moments, I am confident after seeing the school and meeting the staff that they will receive accreditation. That is just my opinion and how I felt when I interviewed. By all means, go with your intuition. If you don't think they will receive accreditation, then don't go. But this is just my 2 cents.......and I agree with LaoSaint and Kynsik on this topic. So good luck!
🙂

LaoSaint, I am from Florida (West Palm Beach near Palm Beach Atlantic and the WPB campus of Nova), and yes, South Florida is an expensive area to live. But I am in North Carolina in a PhD program in statistics. Yes, and many of my fellow classmates are from mainland China and are quite a bit older than me about 30, and I am 25!

I did not know that UACP was an accelerated program. I think I would go there if you got a good feeling from the program. If you know that they are definitely not a Hawaii College of Pharmacy, and know that the faculty is truly dedicated, I would go there. Do you know about their NAPLEX passing rate? If 90-something percent are passing the test, then the school is doing their job. If it is not published, then you could call them to ask, since you have already been accepted.

How much debt, exactly would you have from them (UACP)?
If it is less than Nova, than go to UACP.

I have never been to that area of Virginia, but some of my classmates have gone camping there (it is a 4-hour drive from Raleigh). Maybe I will go there sometime. I am curious.

Are you waiting to hear from other schools?

Good luck!!!

Hey everyone,
My name is Heather and this is my first thread that I've written on! Congrats to all who have been accepted! I'm working on the supplemental, but I'm a little worried if my prereqs are ok, because I'm getting a BS degree, and it requires me to take functional vertebrate anatomy. Is this subsitute ok for Human Anatomy? If anyone could reply soon that would be excellent! It sounds like a nice little school! Also, when you all are talking about GPA, are you referring to the prereq GPA or you're overall GPA? I have an overall 3.19 and 82 PCAT. My science GPA is lower though, and if they look at that heavily, I'm a little worried about applying. I have a lot of extracurrics and pharmacy experience to help. Let me know what you all think! You all sound like great people to get advice from. Thanks! 🙂

Hey RxgirlUF, I asked vickie keene about the anatomy class during my interview. She emphasized that as long as the course has a "human" in the course name, it should be ok. For example, Human anatomy🙂. Not mammalian, or anything else. Hope that helps🙂

Hello,

Thanks for your post! UACP has yet to graduate their first class this coming year. It will be interesting to see what the stats for the first graduating class will be. After talking to many students that are graduating this year from UACP, they seem pretty confident taking the boards. Professors like Dr. Breeze, Whitney Caudill, and Dr. Lee and many more professors have prepared them for the boards. Also, the professors from UACP come from a very diverse background. Dr. Lee came all the way from Connecticut and Dr. Breeze from a big university (Virginia Tech?). It's not like all the professors came from the Grundy area. I guess what I am trying to say is that these professors have taught in big universities as well so I'm certain that they will be just as tough at UACP as they would back at their previous university. The courses at UACP is taught on a block schedule and I feel that one can learn alot in detail because you are mainly focusing on one class for two weeks and testing out. In a way it's a stress free environment because you dont have to worry about having to take 6 or 7 classes and having many many tests thrown at you all at once. Also, many of the students are on facebook and they come from a diverse background as well. You have people who graduated from Cornell University to people from Texas Tech University attending. I'm confident in the people who will take the boards! Again people have faith in the pharmacy school. The dean is a medical doctor and Whitney is an attorney. You know those two people alone went through some hard a** graduate school and is capable of making money up the a** as well and they have confidence with UACP because apparently they are the faculty of the pharmacy school!! The only reason I know so much about the school and professor is because I'm a people person. During my interview I talked with many professors as well as the interviewers as well. I didn't just focus on just my interview. I focused on getting a feel for the school and surroundings as well. I owe alot of my skills to my Public Relations Degree!

PS Yes I am also waiting to hear back from the many schools I've applied to (15 total)

I totally understand where you are coming from. Having a family is a major decision factor when choosing schools. I would highly stress that one should not compare any new pharmacy school to Hawaii. I swear that damn Hawaii school makes it harder for new schools to gain confidence in their system. All I've got to say about the Hawaii school and the people who suffered from it should have seen it coming. I think those who got in where in the same positons as many of us on here. They just simply dont have the high gpa/pcat to get into other schools or they are just simply so scared of not getting into pharmacy school and accepted the hawaii offer asap just to be in pharmacy school. It's important to do a thorough research on the school, people, and the school system. Hawaii took in about what? 200+ people for their first new class? Come on now, I'm not the smartess one but I know for sure that when a new pharmacy school develops, their entering classes are relatively small! UCSD, UACP, ETSU..etc That alone should already be a red flag when applying to Hawaii. This is just my 2cents on Hawaii, and I could be way off being presumptious. That's just how I view Hawaii. I read somewhere that those who got cheated out will lose 75% of what they paid to Hawaii but will get 25% of what they paid back. I know it's not much but what I'm trying to say is that schools who pull that kind of crap will get punished...just like Hawaii did. The dean and another professor can no longer find work in Hawaii, so obviously there is a severe punishment for a half a** pharmacy school. Hang in there and trust your gut instincts. Ironically I feel wierd defending UACP hardcore because I'm not even a student there yet!! I just got accepted but as you can see I pro UACP! 😀

Hi again!
From what I've read on previous posts regarding Hawaii, the main difference between them and any pre-candidate school is that they applied for pre-candidate status after already begionning their first year of pharmacy school. This is not the practice of any other pharmacy school in this country. UACP applied for pre-candidate staus a full year before beginning its first semester. Also, even if, god forbid, UACP does not get candidate status before you graduate, there is an examination that you can sit for to qualify to take the boards anyway. That, of course, is a last resort, but still another way out. All schools have to start at the bottom. In 10 years, no one will even remember that there was even a question of UAcp or the other pre-candidate status schools getting accredited. Only those of us who were the pioneers will remember.

I got an acceptance letter last week but my family are so worried about their status right now. (This is the only school accepts me) My dad knows much about all the accredation stuff because he is a pharmacist. After visiting school on Dec. 16, he said school doesn't even have adequate materials such as lab, software, computer for Pharm. D education. This also might cause another Accredation problem later. Also, there is no enough faculty compare to the number of student. Actually, Howard was placed on probation because of this matter even though it is corrected now.

Daytripper-
How can you even attest to the abilities of this school. You were there for the 1st semester of the first year, with a dean that is no longer there. You never saw the new campus or the numerous upgrades that have been done since you "left" Leave these students alone. They need accurate information, not biased information from a disgruntled student.

The school is a joke. The faculty and the new dean especially know nothing about getting a school accredited. The school is ran by a group of board members who care only about furthering themselves politically, and one especially Frank Kilgore seems to think he runs the school. He was responsible for the removal of the first dean and caused several people to lose faith in the entire school. Look elsewhere, the school opened too early without the proper equipment staff and resources and has been undermined by decisions from the board to cut down the only decent faculty that the school had.

I appreciate your opinion and I am sure many other prospective students do as well. Do you know anything about University of Pacific, and if so what? Thanks again

Apple86, thanks for thoughts too. If your dad is a pharmacist and he has doubts I do not think I would even consider the school. What is the faculty to student ratio? Keep us posted on your decision.

Faculty (not dean )and student ratio used to be about 3:10 but I heard since 2005, the ratio has been changed. My dad said that is why Howard is on probation. Howard is a great school besides the lack of faculty. That's why the probation status is not a big problem for current Howard student. But, unfortunately I can see many risky things about this school already so I am debating I should take this offer or not.
I can see some UACP student are mad after reading my post and other people's post but I think they have to understand us. I am just trying to share my thought. I am pretty sure that some people are worrying about same thing as I do.

I have no problem at all with people stating qualms with the school. I did the same thing as I applied, interviewed and was accepted. I just want those qualms to be raised by people who do not have an ulterior motive. Good luck in whatever you choose, if I see you next year, it will be a pleasure.

What about University of Pacific?

Well, I guess my post have caused so much trouble. Kynsik and Pillstalivin, I am sorry to hurt you guys feeling about the school that you are enrolled. I just tried to clarify the things that I did not understand. The school did not give me clear answer about Accredation at the interview even though I asked several times. I think it is absolutely natural to be frustrated for me at this point. I guess you two went through same stage. That's why I came up with the previously posted issues that might cause trouble in the future and share with other people and current student. This is my second year applying to pharm. D Program. I visited more than 8 schools including new school but honestly I have never seen any school like UACP.
These questions are the ones that I want to know. If I am clear with these questions, I think I can decide what to do.
Are you two sure that school will gain pre-candidate status on april? Is the lack of the Dean the only reason for Cautionary Status?

Daytripper,
Were you a student at UACP?

I am a prospective student. You did not offend me in anyway. I was thanking you for giving your opinion. If you directly asked them about their accredation status and they dodged the question i would be extremly worried, as you are, about attending.
