University of British Columbia Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Same here. So I'm also interested!

Speaking of which, I heard UBC is holding mock interviews on March 19th and 26th from 10am - 1pm, held by the prepharmacy club. I heard it's good practice since actual pharmacy students are conducting the interviews, but you need to sign up as they're only accommodating 60 people altogether.

Well, I went to the pre-pharmacy club website (http://www.prepharmacyubc.blogspot.com/), but it doesn't mention about the mock interviews, so I'm wondering where did you get the news of the mock interviews? How do we sign up for them?

Thanks! =)

Sorry guys, you're too late.

They sent the mock interview invite email only to the members of the pre-pharmacy club, and it is completely filled up now.

Yay, good to see that some of you are interested!

I would love to get started as soon as possible!

Also,,, do you guys know if UBC still doesn't look at the PCAT composition scores?

From what I've heard, they don't look at your writing comp scores.

Well since its just a mock interview...can you guys post the questions here so that we can all discuss it and get a feel for them? Unless its confidential

^ yeah, that would be really helpful.

it seems like a lot of guys are forgetting this is a competition..

if you were to fight someone and you owned a gun and they didn't.. would you give him a gun too so you could fight on equal terms?

not trying to mean.. just keepin' it real

If you think a couple of potential interview questions are going to give you an edge over others, you are kidding yourself.
Maybe you'll get more out of them when everybody else discusses them..? 🙄

So it seems like two people are interested in forming a interview practice group so far:
-reason
-lulz

anyone else?

p.s. thanks for clearing up my question about pcat composition! 🙂

I see where you're coming from, but I have to agree with Iqra. There's no considerable advantage to sharing possible interview questions. And each interview is and should be unique in that there are no right or wrong answers, just well executed and thought-out responses.

If we all had the competition mindset, then these forums would not exist and it would be up to you to find information about the universities you apply to. I applaud the idea of working together and sharing possible questions (if not under the contract of confidentiality). It harms no one, and it serves the purpose of these forums.

I'm third year microbiology, but my goal all along has been pharmacy. I've put my blinders on and I'm confident that I will be in pharmacy school by next year. 🙂

Ooooh, I'm also very interested in joining you folks, but I won't be able to do much until after the April exam period.

Oh, nice! By the way, how's MICB 323 going along? 😉 For some reason I don't recall having a good time in that class, probably because I keep getting abnormal results and I couldn't explain them... =P I did enjoy shocking bacteria though! XD

hey guys, im just wondering, do u have to declare a major at the end of first year? I dont think i know what I want to do yet..

I know it is early to ask, but where would you all be meeting up? I am thinking to come.

Me too

good stuff. Where is good place for everyone?

For me: Burnaby, Coquitlam or Port Coquitlam - Pitt Meadows area is good too. I can always accomodate to the majority's convenience.

Any place close to a skytrain station works for me. 👍

I guess somewhere near skytrain stations would be the most convenient place for everyone?

Which stations are the best? Lougheed? Metrotown?

It would be nice to get something going before the end of March 🙂

Metrotown works but like I mentioned before I will not be able to commit before the final exams. My last final is on the 21st 🙁

Metrotown works for me as well, but I also couldn't really participate until after my last exam, April 18th.

Yes I agree, let's get it full-on after the exam period!

But is there anyone available in the meanwhile as well?

My last final is on the 21st also. Physiology! 👎

I think Metrotown or any place near skytrains works best for me.

Lol same here. Would you believe me if I say I haven't been to lectures since February? 😱

Can I also join the interview practice group? I may be able to join the meetings held during school, as long as they are held at UBC. We can book rooms in Irving or Woodward, or anywhere else.

I'll be open for the meeting sessions after exams as well. Metrotown, UBC, or anywhere nearby is okay with me.

i want to join too!

i'm really hoping the average gpa and pcat score for those entering drops due to the extra 74 applicants being expected (bump).

Did anyone just receive an email saying the UBC enrollment office didn't receive our online pharmacy application?

OH NO!!! You forgot to submit it!!

Lol j/k. Yes I got it today as well. I freaked out at first but then realized I did submit everything and can see the pending application on SSC. So don't worry 👍

Hahaha... I just made a few calls, and it turns out that the email was a mistake. Phewww... I'm soooo paranoid.. haha...

I didn't get one.....

Did everyone else get one?

i didnt get one.. hope this isnt the future story of my life XD

Hi guys, I've been following the SDN UBC forum for a long time but just registered now. I'd like to join the interview practice! 🙂
Last year, MMI was pretty daunting and I think I didn't perform as well as I thought.
UBC, Burnaby, Coquitlam, Vancouver all work for me.

How many people want to join so far? Should we be looking at booking a big room at UBC?

just got an email..

end of may we will get interview invites..

beginning of june we get times..

interviews June 11, 12, 18 and 19

By the end of the first week in July, admission decisions will be sent to all interviewed applicants. We will be making approximately 225 offers of admission.

the email we just received says there will be 350 applicants selected for interview. 225/350 is just over 64%, also factor in the wait list and the chances of waitlisting or being accepted are pretty high if you receive an interview.
