Is anyone else having problems getting into UM's secondary site? They said to use my AMCAS ID, date of birth and last name (as password). I can't get into the site. Is it anxiety or it really a bug in their website?

Straight from the email:

"Please note that you will enter this site using your AMCAS ID, your date of birth, and your last name as your password (up to 8 characters). The required browser for this site is Netscape."

yeah i'm having trouble with it it too. i tried several computers and i used internet explorerer as well as netscape. you're not alone.

anyone have any luck accessing this secondary?

jhrugger

I can't even find the damn site ... what's the link to the secondary/status of app page?

Any one care to post the link?

So yesterday I was inputting one of my essays and it said my application was certified and submittied (!) which was very disturbing. I thought I might have clicked the wrong button because the submit button is right near the save button.

I called them today about it, they said my application was submitted by a bug, and its resulting in the site being messed up or something. Should be working again in 24 hours.

same thing happened to me, except all i had entered were the names of my recommenders! i called them and they reset my app and the same thing happened again. so i called again and they fixed the bug - it's working now. moral of the story (for Orth2006 and others): don't be afraid to call them if you have a problem. they have been really helpful and friendly to me.

also, this is just a guess, but it's possible you're entering your date of birth wrong? it asks for it in the unusual format YYYYMMDD, so september 1st, 1980 would be 19800901. since we're used to entering MMDDYYYY, i could see that that could be the problem?

Does anyone know the exact automatic interview cutoff? I've heard 36/3.8, and ive also heard 34/3.7

34/3.7 for in state
363.8 for out of state

That 36/3.8 is not a hard limit. A friend of mine has a lower GPA and still got the auto-invite.

for this secondary, UMich says that netscape is the required browser...did you guys download netscape just to do this secondary?

if i use IE or mozilla, i don't see all the required boxes to input things, such as section J UM association... do you know how to get around that?

i don't have a field for section J either. i e-mailed them about it but i don't know what's going on.

I have a 43/3.75 out of state and got the auto. That's interesting, didn't know they did that.

And why do they require netscape?

I have a 35/3.83 in-state and DIDNT get the auto.

thats interesting....i didn't know they did that either :scared:

what does it say your status is for those who got an auto interview, and for those of you who didn't? mine just says status unavailable ...

The password is also case sensitive I think. So make sure to capitalize your last name.

Also for the leters of reccomendation. I have two from science profs and one from a professor I did research under. Since it asks for a non science letter, does that mean it cant be someone who taught you science or does it have to be a english prof or something like that? Basically do you think i can use my research prof letter as the non-science letter?

I got the email, but didn't read that the required browser is Netscape? Is this some kind of demented, sick joke? Netscape is just plain awful!!!!!!! I can't believe they would mandate Netscape.

I wonder if it works with Mozilla, or if they actually sniff the incoming user-agent to see if indeed the browser is Netscape. How crappy is that?

Mozilla works fine...I use it on their site.

Yeah, I received UMich's secondary today. Number 1 choice!!! So the question is:since my preproff. letter packet contains the equivalent of what they ask for can I just send them that?

Also I was hoping for an auto invite w/ a 34/3.83 but nope. 👎
Good luck and I hope we all get interviews!

I think you can send your preproff packet - if it has all the letters they require.. but you should specify the names of the recommenders if the committee is just compiling the letters. If they are writing one cumulative letter - I'm not sure - you could call the office and find out.

Thank you. Yeah I plan on calling them tom.

ya'll, what does it say under STATUS if you have an auto-interview??

So if you received the auto-invite do you get to skip the secondary, or are they just scheduling your interview now and getting your secondary later?

last year, you could schedule your interview whenever, but you needed to complete the secondary by the time of your interview

pistachio said:

It says:

Application Status as of 07/13/2005
We are pleased to offer you an interview. You may select your interview date by choosing from the available dates in the drop down list. Once you have scheduled this date you will not be able to make changes.

You still have to fill out the secondary and turn in all the stuff, though, so it's not like you save any time.

EDIT: Ok, ok, I got the auto-interview. Don't know why I was being so anal, guess I just panicked at the time. Sept 16 for me.

Best of luck to everyone else!

Guys, I accidentally deleted the stupid email, can someone post the secondary link for me?

Where the crap is my auto-interview!??! I really shouldn't be mad, but I'm in-state and this is a top-choice school for me. I got the secondary email today, but my email says nothing about an interview... Come on, I'm a 40 MCAT, 3.97 GPA in-state student, give me a friggin auto-interview!

Maybe if I download Netscape it will answer my wishes...

Oh well, best of luck to the rest of you w/ everything.

Everyone, download Firefox here.

Dajimmers: You definitely have an auto-interview.

Listen to Drinkloard and download firefox. It is better then netscape or internet explorer and I am so grateful for it. The other two programs just suck a$$

That said.......I'm pretty sure you have an auto-invite with your stats.

dajimmers,

one girl mentioned that her interview was not mentioned in the email, but showed up on the status page of the secondary? maybe you ought to look there? you def have an auto-interview. g'luck!

i didn't get an auto-invite. 🙁

41/3.55 out of state (but alumnus!)

that's it, i'm not donating to renovate the stadium. never again!

I just got an email from UMich asking for a current photo and LORs...

The GPA cutoff for out of state auto invite is 3.8 and 3.7 for in state. You surpassed the MCAT cutoff but did not make the GPA cutoff, so that may be the reason for it.

Dajimmers,

Check your status page, that is where babs and bdiesel found out about their auto invites from.

has anyone else actually submitted the secondary yet? i submitted early this morning and still haven't gotten any sort of confirmation e-mail.

also, does anyone know of a way to view the application as a whole so we can print it for our records? the only view i have is in the regular browser window, which wouldn't show the essays in their entirety.

*a little frustrated with umich technical problems*

update: just got e-mail confirmation. also, they are requesting LOR's and a photo, which they say is only for applicants who they are thinking of interviewing, but then again i didn't get an auto-invite so i don't know what the heck is going on.

Umm, I can positively say that the 3.8 cutoff for nonresidents is not a hard limit.

It's probably some total of the two like MCAT + (10 X GPA) >= 74.

I talked to Admissions today. For those that met the cutoff but didn't get the interview, they are not going with the 34 MCAT, but that your scores in EACH section are at least an 11.

In addition, there is the chance taht adcomes will go over everything, upon receiving your secondary, and give a "delayed automatic interview" then, for thsoe that didnt meet that nitty gritty requirement

So I have a question about section J:

"J. UM ASSOCIATION Some applicants have family members who are affiliated with or have previously attended the University of Michigan. Although it will not affect your application, you may enter this information"

Okay, so WHERE do we enter this information?!? There isn't any place that I see!

Ya there is a problem with section J in the fact that no field exists.

ti89 said:

i called them, and the woman who answered said that there is a glitch there, but that she would be happy to enter the information for me if i dictated it to her right there over the phone. so i started to, but then she said that the question applies only to family members associated with the um medical school, not the university in general (which is not what the online app says, by the way), so i said never mind and that was it.

wow, this is a profoundly unhelpful post. sorry.

i dunno if this is right for this thread. i'm new here

um i am no where near some of you on your GPA stats. i'm a Umich alumn with CMB major (is that gone now?). I have 38 MCAT , 14 bio, 11 verbal, 13 physics. i had good GPA freshman, soph year, but then things went downhill as my mom went through two cancers. i didnt want to pull out of of school, but of course my GPA suffered. being with my mom became a priority and i should've withdrawn.

so my gpa dropped from ~3.7 to pretty low and my overall at the end was 3.2.

but at BU's postbac program I got a 3.97 including A's in biochem, histo, physio and endo.

i've got the activities (volunteer, service orgs) consistently. I've got research almost every year I was in school. did UROP too.

i know i'm not going to get the auto interview. but i dunno, what y'all think are my chances? Umich is a dream for me, i'm pretty sure i can get into my NY state schools... but I love Ann Arbor.

Well it is tougher being out of state but your MCAT is obviously solid. As long as you explain your situation I am sure they would be understanding. I guess the short answer is you have a decent shot imo.

thanks for the reply! 🙂

i definitely took advantage of my PS to explain the situation and how it ended up to be a good chance for me to practice what i learned through volunteering.

well, i've got my fingers crossed. i checked mdapplicants.com and yea there're like only 2 profiles similar to mine.

Does anyone know how long of a drive it is from Ann Arbor to Detroit? Which airport would you use to get to UMich?

jeffsleepy said:

Whichever airport that Southwest flies into is less than ~20 miles from Ann Arbor (according to Google Maps).

Southwest flies into Metro (which is in Romulus) not really detroit. 20 miles should take about 30 minutes or so on the freeways depending on traffic.

I edited my earlier post, but just wanted to say here as well, that they updated the site and I did get the auto-interview. I was just being overly anal. Oh well. I used Netscape as well, if that had anything to do with the status change, I don't know.

I haven't gotten Firefox yet, but I've heard good things. Have they resolved that security issue publicized earlier this summer?

Best of luck to everyone else, and for the non-auto-invites: remember that 2/3 of invites are not automatically chosen. Hang in there everyone!
