I didn't remove my signature, it just seems to have disappeared.

Yeah, to summarize my plans: UMich is definately a top contender, but I'll be going to a number of other schools to see if I like the program, and to have multiple FinAid packages, etc. In April, I'll go w/ my wife to see how we like any of the schools I'm really considering. She is going into education, so she has to do her student teaching/internship still. If we leave MI, it apparently isn't too difficult to link up w/ a different University to complete her certification, as long as the area needs teachers...

Mine says "Status not available."

I've been waiting all weekend for this day. How horrible would it be if UM delayed sending out emails or announcements today because of a delay? The anticipation is killing me.

Has anyone been able to grab the file for the Dean's "you're accepted" flashvideo? I can't find it in my temp files, etc. If so, please send me a PM.

I really want to get it onto a laptop so that I can take over to my grandmother's assisted living home and show her the video. I tried to explain it to her but (not surprisingly) at 91 years old she had no clue what I was talking about... She did understand that I was going to be a Wolverine and a doctor! 🙂

Yes, and yes. 🙂

Michigan is my first choice and the circumstances that I can imagine under which I would not go there are fairly implausible. (Full ride from another top school & no financial help whatsoever from UofM...)

I have family near many of the other school to which I've applied, so I could combine interview with trips to visit them. I'll probably still go to a few more interviews just to see what some other schools are like, but I'm pretty comfortable saying that I'll be in Ann Arbor.

Two and a half days later, I'm still feeling giddy! 😀

I thought my interview went well, and I still haven't heard. My last name starts with Z, so hopefully they're doing it by alphabetical order.

It's past 5 pm Eastern Time, I got no email and their site is down.

Me too...deferred until December. I'm not sure what deferral means, in relation to waitlist. I think I might call UM tomorrow to get clarification as to what that status means.

Did anyone get an acceptance today? (Oct 17th?) Or were all remaining candidates delegated to deferred, waitlist, or rejection?

Deferred until december is not the same as being waitlisted, it is much better. It means that they are going to hold onto you application and then compare it to other ones that come in between now and december. So, you still have a shot, you just have to wait.

Judging by the fact that nobody posted anything positive on here, im guessing all of the acceptances went out at midnight on Friday. Maybe they just waited to send ours out so they wouldnt ruin our weekend, who knows. As for me, I got waitlisted. Hopefully I get accepted at Wayne, they will tell me on Wednesday.

Yeah, from the SDN group, it seems all those getting accepted to UMich this early got it during midnight friday night/monday morning.

I'm 99% sure I'll be seeing you next fall. UMich rocked.
 
I'm around 80% right now. Other schools would have to seriously wow me, or give me lots of $$$ (esp. since UMich is in-state tuition for me) and slightly wow me.

That was my understanding as well. Also, I'm guessing that the waitlist will be a better place to be this year than last. (No one came off the waitlist and the class was 177 when they wanted 170.) I know that they are giving out fewer acceptances this year than last ~340 this year compared to ~390 last year, so I would anticipate more waitlist movement.

Yeah, I'm with you on that one, dajimmers. Of all the schools I've heard anything from so far, I think Michigan is my top choice (though I've only been to half my interviews) For some reason, it felt a bit disappointing to get into the place I'll most likely go to so early. It took some of the fun (and by fun I mean anxiety) out of this process. 🙄

Don't get me wrong, I love Umich. But I also really love drama! :laugh:

I does take away some of the excitement. For instance right now I have little zeal to go to Vanderbilt. I have yet to do the essay (interview within the next few days) and it's hard to bring myself to do it. I am still considering whether I should relinquish my invite. I don't want any regrets so I will probably go through with it.
 
Yes, we're in such a rough situation: an insanely early acceptance to one of the best schools in the country, and likely our top choice. For all of thre rest of you who don't know where to send your condolences, please feel free to contact me via PM! 😛

I've yet to return to reality myself! (Though I have returned to sobriety!) 😀

I have visited both schools, and I can honestly say that you won't be able to find two schools that are so good yet so different. Personally, Vanderbilt just wasn't a nice fit for me (I was personally told by my interviewer that he didn't think my involvement with minority communities and plans to work with these communities as a physician were legit reasons to go into medicine), but besides the typical southern stereotypes, I did get the impression that it was a great school. If I were you I would definitely still go!

2) People - I don't intend to offend any hardcore Vandy supporters out there, but the class lacked ethnic and cultural diversity, which is to be expected in the south. I'm not trying to say that living in Ann Arbor would be like living in New York, but there was definitely more diversity in UMich.

3) Layout of the campus.

4) Curriculum - a) Vandy is experimenting with a new program in which students are required to persue a scholarly project. b) I'm a big fan of the flex time scheduling at UMich, which isn't an option at Vandy (or anywhere else that I know of). Michigan definitely gave me the impression that they would keep me on top of the material, while self motivation would be more important at Vandy...

5) Vandy doesn't really try to impress (some might say they don't need to; their students all seemed pretty happy), while Michigan does. I feel this is one of the reasons why I think the schools came across so differently.

If that doesn't work, this may:

Option 1: Open the link (http://www.med.umich.edu/medschool/midnight/), then click File, Save As, and save it as a web page archive (mhtml). I think this worked for me.

Option 2: Make the above link a favorite, and in the dialog box where you can name it, click "make this available offline."

Either way, unplug your internet or go File, Work Offline to check if they worked...

To us fortunate acceptees, did any of you get e-mails from your interviewers? I just got two... very strange. I did send them thank you e-mails after my interview, so maybe they thought it would be nice to say congrats?

I really love how Umich treats its applicants. They make you feel like you are their favorite person in the whole world. 😀

It was a tough decision but I am going to be a good samaritan and give up my vandy interview. I think if I had done the essay already I would have gone but I can't bring myself to do all that work when I most probably won't go there. Besides I don't want anything to woo me away from Michigan.

No mail today, but I'm hoping soon. The video is great, but I want something to put in a frame and put on the wall 🙂

Their Admissions Site updated yesterday. They've given out 28% of their acceptances for this year!

typical southern stereotypes? I wonder where many of Vandy's med profs went to school. Honestly, this statement is absolute nonsense. As if one of the top universities in the country, or any university for that matter, staffs itself with the sons of the confederacy. Is it the accent?
 
got the letter yesterday. they don't even make us respond to it, which is nice. they also personalized it (mentioning my undergrad school, my area of recent research), but i imagine they do that for everyone.

i put it up on my fridge right next to my rejections (i'm putting those up there to keep me humble). 🙂
 
Hey - so i've been complete at Michigan since 9/13/05 and since then the website status states that I'm still "under review." ... anyone know what to make of this? guessin' i've been placed on hold or am being geared for a rejection letter. 😕
