University of Minnesota c/o 2019 Applicants

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
You'll have an opportunity to do it in school first semester. If you are using the school's health insurance its freeeeeee.

And if you're not using the school's health insurance, the answer is: whenever is convenient for you. They will ask you to titer every 2 (or 3?) years, so you might as well wait and get it done right when school starts so you only have to titer once during school. I think I had to titer twice because my rabies vaccination was a few years before school.

Caveat: I may be wrong on the period they make you re-test.

Anyone OOS and was able to gain residency of UMN?
anyone successful in gaining residency for the 1st year?

After reading this recidency document, it seems pretty much impossible. 🙁

Question: does UMN do grade replacement or just the average for a retaken class? Thank you thank you🙂

Hello! I posted once before- I am an accepted student's parent. I am posting again with a question regarding tuition costs. Does anyone know if MN tuition costs are going up? I had heard something about the U of MN costs going up on the local news, but do not know if that pertains to the veterinary school also, and if so, how much cost is actually involved.
My daughter just got a call from WI and is off the waitlist there. She has until tomorrow to give her decision and we are just trying to weigh all the costs involved. As of right now, with WI having raised tuition, MN is the cheaper option as she is in-state, but if MN is raising tuition, things might be on a more even field cost wise.
Anyone know anything about MN tuition for 2015/2016 and beyond?
Thank you.

The plan for next year is apparently a 1.5% tuition increase. Beyond next year? Anyone's guess. They had a freeze last year.

Quote from an email we received about it "As a consequence, the budget proposal includes a 1.5 percent tuition increase for each Minnesota-resident undergraduate student, and a slightly higher increase for Minnesota-resident graduate and professional students." Unfortunately that sounds like our tuition, already stupid high in my soon-to-be-professional opinion is going to increase higher than the 1.5%.

Hm. Some information posted elsewhere indicated they had secured funds to allow them to offset that difference and match the 1.5% undergrad increase. Interesting.

Hi I was wondering if anyone knows how the UMN determines residency for the application cycle? I was born and raised here in MN most of my life but just recently (July) moved back after living in CA for 5 years. My parent's have lived here their whole life as well. They never moved. I am hoping to be considered a resident in the app cycle.
Also does anyone know what the GPA's and GRE score cutoff is in order to move to the second phase of the evaluation?

Not sure about residency, but if your parents still claim you on their taxes, you can probably be considered a resident, don't quote me on that though! haha.
Not sure about the GPA cutoff either, but the GRE cutoff is the 35th percentile, so as long as you are above that, you can progress to the 2nd phase. (Also, they don't look at the writing portion of the GRE, which was a good thing for me lol.) They have informative meetings usually where they give this information to people who would like to listen to it. I'm not sure when or how you figure that out, though.

What do you think my chances are? I have a B.S. in Animal Ecology and will be graduating with my M.S. in Biomedical Sciences this May. My GRE wasn't that great, as I got a 151 on my Verbal Reasoning, a 150 Quantitative Reasoning, and a 4.0 on my Analytical Writing. My science GPA is 3.5 and my overall GPA is 3.7.

Thanks!

There's a thread on the home pre-vet page that's called, "What are my chances?" You'll probably get more bites posting there instead of here. 🙂
