do you guys know their policy about rescheduling for interview? They scheduled me for interview on 1/27 but I have an interview at ucsd on that day =\

To the current students at Minnesota, how is it like over there? I'm from California so I don't really know about Twin City and the campus 🙂
Congratz to everyone who received their acceptance letters 🙂

Finding a place to live is harder than I thought it would be. I just hope that I don't choose a place where I can hear the neighbors through the walls and I don't have to deal with a party in the apartment below/above me with the base bouncing. Anyone know if there are apartments specifically for graduate/professional students close by?

Have you checked out the housing co-ops (http://www.umnctc.org/ and http://cscc.umn.edu/)? I haven't lived in them, so I can't really give you an opinion on them.

I actually just looked at the first link the other day with my fiancee and we are thinking it's a good fit. I don't want to jump into anything quite yet though, still need to shop around. I'm curious what an average distance is from campus to student's apartments, I love how close I live to my current college.

I guess I don't want to live where all the undergrads do. For me it is worth the 5 extra minutes to feel like I'm not still in college. I understand the appeal of living really close, but I like that I'm just out of the evidence of a college campus. I'll still be a short bus or bike ride away.

Hey girls,
I will be interviewing on Feb 10 at the Twin Cities campus, and was wondering if any of you would like to share the hotel room and split the cost. I will spending the night of Feb 9th and Feb 10th at a hotel. Please let me know if you are interested! Thanks

There are hotels in the area, but you can probably find a cheaper one that's farther away and bus to the campus instead. Check out the transit trip planner for busing times: http://metrotransit.org/tripplanner/

I've never stayed at any local hotels as I live in the general area, so I can't really help you there. Random tip: remember to bring your own pillow in case the hotel's are rock hard. One of the hotels I stayed at had pillows made out of boulders, which is the last thing you want when you are already keyed up for interview day.

Good luck everyone!

Just wondering--did anyone turn in their application after November and have gotten an interview invite recently?

I turned in my supplemental in mid-december and i got an interview invite last week

Congrats to those that have gotten accepted and gotten interviews. My Pharmcas application is being sent out this Monday, and I am super nervous that it is too late. I know that their Pharmcas deadline is 2/1 and their supplementary applications are due 3/1. I am currently working on the supplementary app and hoping to send it in as soon as possible. I am just worried that I am applying waaaaaaaaay too late compared to a lot of you guys on here. I live in Minnesota and have gone to the U of M as an undergrad so this is my top choice.

I want to ask how long did it take them to process your entire application and contact you for interviews?

At this rate, I think that if I do get an interview, it would probably be the last round of interviews. Gaaah! I just hope there will be at least one seat left for me.

They are really fast. I submitted my supplemental application on 10/13 and got an interview invite on 10/26 for the 11/4 interview.

I was wondering how long it takes PharmCAS to verify an official transcript? I requested one from my school on the 3rd of January and I keep checking my status and PharmCAS has not received my transcript yet! Help please!! I'm getting really worried 😕

I remember that took more than a couple weeks for me. Your school has to process your transcript request (which may take a couple days) and send it (another few days), and they don't work during weekends, and PharmCAS says it would take a week to process your transcript. Don't worry.

Do you know if they will let you know that they have received your transcript right away? or do they let you know after they've verified your GPA and everything?

I never got any email from them regarding my transcript verification or the completion of my GPA calculation.

PharmCAS takes a long time to process all the information, but once it's done, you'll see it. Just keep checking your app and call them if you still don't see anything after a month.

I received an email when my transcript was verified and GPA calculated. Nothing telling me that my transcript had been received, though. My time frame for the academic update was as follows: transcripts were received 12/31 and GPA calculated 1/19. I don't know if there's a difference in the verification time for academic update versus initial submission.

The February 1st deadline is for submitting my PharmCAS application and not the process-by date, correct? I am submitting this week and a lot of my application has been there since the summer. Been waiting on some letters of recommendation and my personal statement.

What are the current admitted vs waitlisted stats for U of M?

I think the school should receive all the documents by February 1st. Just e-submitting your application does not mean that the school will review it. You have to get your materials done and verified by PharmCAS before the deadline.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

If anyone is curious about the admissions stats, here is the info they gave us at the 12/9 interview:

24 applicants interviewing on 12/9
84 total applicants interviewed (including 12/9)
360 projected total interviews
60 applicants reviewed for admission
41 applicants admitted: (12 Duluth) and (29 Twin Cities)

If anyone interviewing tomorrow could provide the updated admission information I ( and I'm sure many others) would greatly appreciate it. Thanks and good luck tomorrow!

71 applicants interviewed on 1/27
155 total applicants interviewed (including 1/27)
360 projected total interviews
84 applicants reviewed for admission
59 applicants admitted
18 Duluth
41 TC

I can see a lot of people want TC. I'm going to be checking out Duluth the day before my interview in the Twin City.

There are about twice as many spots for the Twin cities campus (107 I think) than there are at Duluth (60). They try to fill each campus proportionately as the admission cycle goes on, so that's why there are more people admitted to the TC campus as of now.

Did anyone go to University of Minnesota- Twin Cities for interview? If so, could you guys give me some tips? Did they ask you to write essay?

Thanks

Terk is absolutely right. I interviewed on 1/27 and everyone who interviewed gets a sheet with the most current stats.

Do you know what they mean by "84 applicants reviewed for admission"? Is that just out of the 155 total that they have interviewed?

155 total interviewed - 71 interviewed on 1/27 = the 84 people that were already reviewed for admission.
I don't know when the last interview session was, but it looks like those 84 have fully been reviewed.

Just got an email from Stacy, I was accepted for admission on the Duluth campus 🙂 I was placed on the ranked waitlist after the October interview so I'm thrilled! Can't wait to start in the fall!

I know this kind of isn't related. But say I don't get accepted anywhere this year, would I have to re-take the PCAT? I'm happy with the score I received and would rather not go through so much stress again.

Nope. Pearson keeps your scores on file for five years 👍

After submitting all application materials and such, do you know how long we have to wait until they reply? And if we don't get an invite for an interview, will they inform us?

Are you talking the initial submission of your pharmCAS application, and still waiting on GPA calculations and transcript verification? Or rather the submission of your supplemental application and fee?

I submitted my supplemental application and fee on 1/30, received confirmation of complete application on 1/30, and finally an interview invite Monday, 2/6. INTERVIEWING 2/24!!! Pretty stoked, but I'm sort of fearful of the seats filling up before a decision concerning my own admissions can be made due to applying/interviewing so late in the game.

Yup, after the supplemental application and everything.

That's really exciting and good luck on your interview!!!!!

They sent me a completed application email which said that my app is up for review and that I can expect to hear from them within a couple of weeks. I got an interview 10 days later.

I just had my interview yesterday in Duluth at 12:30. I thought the process was really relaxing and fun. My interviewer was really nice and patient and surprisingly asked a lot of questions regarding pharmacy. They said the estimated date I would hear back is on March 5th. Can't wait!!!!

Any stats from that interview about how many have been admitted on each campus?

For those that have already interviewed/been accepted: Are the formal interviews set up in such a manner to favor the use of the entire 40 minutes, or does the interviewee have to really exert themselves to make sure the interview extends through the allotted time? I'm not all that concerned, but when I was looking at the interview feedback I saw that some interviews (granted not a very large number) didn't last the entire time. If anyone is able to reassure me that this isn't an issue, I would be much obliged.

I would expect to go at least 40, and be ready to go more. I was interviewed for 50 minutes, and it definitely could have gone longer, we had to cut it short to get me back to the scheduled agenda. It goes really fast though while you are in there being interviewed.
Expect to be asked about yourself, why this pharmacy school, why pharmacy, where could you work with a Pharm.D(what are the types of pharmacy practice), and from there you just have to talk about your leadership/whatever else you've been involved in, maybe a few ethical questions and by then the 40 minutes passed by.
Relax and go into the day with confidence. Good luck at your interview!

My interview was quite short (I was the second to finish in my group), but I was never waitlisted. I think interview length really correlates to the verbosity (or lack thereof) of your interviewer, not your likelihood of acceptance.

Don't worry about your interview; I actually really enjoyed mine. It was an enlightening chance to find out if the school was a good fit for me. Be confident in your skills!

Awesome. Thanks! I'm definitely looking forward to the experience, but can't say thinking about it doesn't get the nerves going a bit.

My interview was very conversational. I think the guy interviewing could have talked with me all day. If you are excited about being a pharmacist and pharmacy student the questions will be easy to answer.
Good luck on your interview, keep us all posted on your progress through admissions!

Thanks! I'll be sure to keep you posted. May I ask when you interviewed?

I interviewed on 1/27 and he had asked me questions for about 30 minutes (about 5 questions). He then opened it up to me, so that I can "feel out" the school for myself. Just be prepared to ask 1-2 really good questions that show your interest in the school and are related to how UofMinnesota will help you achieve YOUR goals. Overall great experience.
