Oh, I got that email, too, and have an official meeting on Wednesday. 😱 Do you think sdn is the common link?

Yes I do.

I've never seen this alleged name containing sheet and am honestly wondering if it's some urban legend that doesn't exist.

Indeed the absence of evidence is glaring in this case. They wouldn't have to ask people about this if they actually had a so-called recipient of said document come forward.

The more I think about it, the thing that irritates me is that the biochem department should have notified somebody about their goof so we could have gotten new id numbers before all the final grades were released.

Definitely agree. Instead of getting an apology from the administration, the deans told our student leaders to order a witch hunt. God forbid somebody in charge has any culpability.

Definitely agree. Instead of getting an apology from the administration, the email I got reads like the deans told our student leaders to order a witch hunt. God forbid somebody in charge has any culpability.

I told him that I'd talk to him, but if somebody shoves me in front of a dean, it ain't happening without a lawyer. I don't have anything to hide, but I'm damn sick of being bullied by these people.

Well it's easier to intimidate us than it is to talk to Leon. 🙄

What I like is how they didn't even ask if the meeting time was okay. We just got this email saying we'll meet with you after x time. I was tempted to say, sorry, I've got another appointment then.

I think largely what has happened, if anything, is the erroneous spreading of the idea that the actual list showing name-class rank came from here. Several people have told me that rank list is available here, which is news to me. Like I told Wiz, anything that came from here was anonymous, but allowed you to see where YOU were; Leon & Friends provided the catalyst for a breach of confidentiality.

It's interesting to me that they were able to tie personas from here with real-life people, which further narrows my differential as to the origin of the flow of info down the catwalk to the House of Burns...

Yea I got the same email.

I just wrote logan back and said I've never even seen any list with names and don't know anything about it. I also said if he wants to discuss it further I'll be on campus all day Thursday. I'm not driving 60 miles and paying a babysitter for something so ridiculous.

In case the rest of you haven't figured it out already, it's one of these SDN people who's starting all these lies...and I'm 95% sure I know who it is. So apparently we can't talk about anything on here anymore unless we want it FedX'd to the hall monitors. 👎

This person's lack of character, dishonesty, and gossip-column mentality is jeopardizing our future and our family's future. Do you think an academic tumor on your record will mess with your residency options...hence your whole future? I do. We've all spent the last 5 years studying our tails off and invested almost $100k already for our dreams, and now someone thinks it's ok to spread rumors and lies at will.

I honestly believe we should put together a formal written complaint detailing all this and turning it in to Dr. Hall/Schmidt/etc.... and requesting disciplinary action or expulsion of the student who is spreading these outright lies about us.

I'd LOVE to find out there are some civil options as well...I'm not an expert on law but defamation of character pops to mind. I wonder how many lawyers will work pro-bono if they're suing medical students? 🙂

the lame thing is that if they took the time to actually read our conversation, they would see that none of us has said anything about creating or having a list with a rank based on names.

i hate this whole thought that people are essentially spying on us here. seriously, have some guts and say hi or something instead of just lurking and reading all our conversations. 👎

For those of you who are planning on going to that meeting with those ppl tomorrow, I would STRONGLY advise you to either video tape it or use one of those mini recorders for your own protection and for evidence in any future lawsuits.

Now be sure to FedX that one too 👍

So what's the big deal with someone figuring out what the class rank was? The school provided all the information necessary to do it. If they don't want it happening, they should keep all grades but your own confidential.

For crying out loud, you're in medical school! Don't they think that med students are smart enough to figure these things out, especially when they give them all the needed information?

Maybe someone threatened to sue, and hence the witch hunt. The administration knows that they were the ones who provided the information, and as such, they would be responsible.

Just the thoughts of an innocent bystander....

Are we all meeting at the same time or do we each have individual meetings? I don't think any of us have anything to worry about unless you made a list with names. I know I never saw one.

They wanted me there at 4pm if that helps.

my meeting is at 3. im not worried. the fact that we are the ones being asked about it make me think it never actually existed. i dont know. i am confused.

Wow, this all sounds so crazy... somebody infiltrated SDN and is blaming you guys for some list of names and IDs? Somebody in the administration accidentally emailed our entire class a list of our names and ID numbers over the summer, and they just said sorry and sent us new ID numbers... so what's the big deal with you guys? How did anyone acquire this list if not from their e-mails? Are they saying somebody hacked into the school's system? 'Cause that would be pretty hardcore... and wouldn't say much about OU's IT people 🙁 I really hope this all gets resolved, and it sucks that you guys are having to deal with all of this... so much for what I said about our administration not being the bad guys 🙁

Yeah, it seems like they're barking up a tree that won't take them anywhere.

My meeting's at 4:20.

Last rumor is that the pres actually has said list in possession which pretty much makes us all innocent.

And yes, there will be a lawsuit involved if this doesn't end tomorrow. I'll start with slander and then move on the issue of privacy violation for allowing my name to be associated with my biochemistry grade in the first place. This is getting old in a hurry. Believe you me I have more things to worry about right now than this BS.

If somebody was shown/given the infamous list, I say start there and go backwards. Dead end? Too bad, but the chain of custody would not include me in any case, nor do I think that anyone here distributed such a list. Instead it looks like they're basing their so-called investigation on conjecture.

I'm disappointed to see what kind of nonsense the roles of our student-elected leaders have been reduced to.

Really? Maybe they know who did it, and it's some buddy of theirs. Instead, they're going after the weirdos. Well, maybe not, but that is a point. I'm so unconnected with my class. I know maybe 20 people. Why would I be motivated to create a list with data on a lot of people who I have no clue who they are. I think the same is true for a good number of sdn posters. A lot of us are homeschoolers. Most of us don't hit every happy hour. We're not the people who are most likely to care.

About the disappointment, yeah. This is the second time where they've brought stuff to us that's pure conjecture. It's really an insult, and we don't deserve it.

This wouldn't be an issue had an alphabetical list not permeated Blackboard's membrane, and none of us would be memorizing new IDs.

Don't chum a shark tank and then try to hold any of them accountable when you get bit...

What time is Leon's meeting with The Underage Inquisition?

Are you guys meeting with the Deans or your class leadership?

Regardless, I agree. It's turning crazy.

Like WiJG said, we didn't even have to do any work for our list. 😉 It was sent in a nice tidy e-mail with a spreadsheet containing names, addresses, phone numbers, secondary phone numbers, home addresses, and exam ids.

😴

In the olden' days, didn't they just publicly post peoples grades next to their names (not necessarily talking about here - just school in general)?

In this case, it appears that any chance to make an example of someone is a worthwhile pursuit.

Can we make that "student elected leaders minus one"? I stand among the SDN-accused. I had heard that somebody had matched names to ID numbers since Leon's accidental release was apparently alphabetical - but I never saw any such thing and didn't know (still don't know) that it actually existed. I've never spoken to anyone who actually said that they saw it, just that they heard about it. I'm innocent by stupidity - I thought the list released from the Biochem department was in some random order - it never occured to me that it was alphabetical.

I am NOT a happy camper.

the meeting is with our class president and vp. I don't know who they're acting with or what they're authority is or anything, especially since ntt is a class officer and apparently didn't hear about it in a meeting. I guess it's possible that the admins went to them and asked them to investigate. Anyway, it's pretty lame. I'm starting to feel like I go LECOM. 😱

As for posting grades, my parents said they used to always post stuff just based on name. There's that education privacy law now, which makes that a big no-no. I'm old, but when I was college we did it with ssns. People could figure out your grade and steal your identity. 🙂

Okay that makes it even more ridiculous-- THEY sent you an email listing your grades and ID numbers, which happened to be listed alphabetically (how lazy is that?), and rather than take responsibility THEMSELVES, they're embarking on a witch hunt so they can have somebody to point a finger at? Certainly it was not a very good idea for whoever added the names to have done so, but if it is indeed the case that the list was in alphabetical order, the people at the beginning and end of the alphabet would have noticed it sooner or later and it would have gotten out. Then anyone who was so inclined could have put the list together themselves.

The problem is that THEY listed the ID numbers in alphabetical order, which could have been easily avoided by a number of different mechanisms (surely the biochem dept secretaries can use Excel?). I'm very disappointed that they don't seem to be taking responsibility for it.

When it happened to us, they were very apologetic, and asked us not to look at it. That's all they had to do with you guys. Now they're just bringing more attention to it, so those people that didn't receive a copy of this list are going to make one, and taking you away from your legitimate responsibilities as students to pursue what will inevitably be a largely fruitless endeavor all to avoid taking responsibility for what is ultimately not that big of a deal (or wouldn't be if they would just apologize, give you new numbers, and let everyone move on). I'm really sorry you guys are having to deal with all this nonsense 🙁

Exactly. My thing is that as soon as the biochem department realized that they goofed (and I bet they realized it before the end of the semester), they should have contacted the admin and made sure we all got new numbers. Owning up to their mistake back then would have been the right thing to do. Sure, it's lame to create a spreadsheet of people's class rank based on names, but it wouldn't have happened in the first place if the biochem department just resorted their silly spreadsheet before releasing it or didn't try to bury it instead of contacting the admin about their goof.

Make sure you sign up for the Tulsa option...

Make sure you sign up for the Tulsa option...

I'd go to Tulsa now if it'd get me away from all this Days of Our Lives drama-queen BS. We're trying to learn about medicine and end up each semester listening to buttmonkeys like these starting bullsh*t.

When I find out who the culprit is this time I'm gonna go b*tchslap his mom and teach her to contract/relax with a cactus.

OWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is a painful visual for the females on the board! Don't make us start talking about putting our stilettos through scrotums...

I'm disappointed I didn't get an email. I guess I don't post enough or that my identity is still in question to a few people here.

This really sucks. I'm sorry that this is turning into such a big deal for you guys. Hopefully they just want to ask you some questions tomorrow and it will all be over. I did not get an email asking for a meeting. Here is my theory and a recap for all of you not in the know:

biochem dept released a list of test scores with our super secret exam ids listed in alphabetically order allowing someone to crack the code.
glp took all of the posted final grades last semester and organized a list of the exam ids ranked by their first semester GPA.
glp then posted here on sdn asking if anyone else would like to see where they were ranked.
Rumor has it that someone took the ranked list and added names to the id numbers based on the biochem goof.
I did not ask for a list of the ranked ids because my life is depressing enough without seeing my sad little id number at the bottom of that very long list.
For those of you did get the list, was it through your ouhsc email? This is my theory of why everyone but me is being called in for the meeting. Which by the way is totally ridiculous.

Obviously we are all very interested in our class rank, and it is important for our future. Why doesn't the college give us this kind of information up front?

Yep. I guess Wizard warned us about the email privacy thing. I wonder if they have some notion that by not giving us our rank until after first year that it'll make us less competitive. That's not how it works, though.

No, Smitty, it's not e-mail, I guess they don't know who you are. Because I did not receive any list of any kind with any rankings, names or no names. Nobody tells me anything... 😳

🙁 In true Wizard style -- {ntt}. I guess they're too lazy to bother to figure out who the non-obvious people are. Me, easy. You, easy. Johnny, easy (I mean how many bald guys named Johnny do we have in our class 🙂 ). Rachel, easy, because she uses her real name.

You don't even get your rank after 1st year. You get your quartile, and I think the majority of people have a pretty good idea of what that is. I hope I don't get called in for giving away this secret information, but here goes:

If you've got a 4.0, you'll be in the first quartile at the end of first year. Sadly (for me), in our class there were 4.0's spilling into the 2nd quartile after 1st semester.

If you've got close to a 4.0, you'll be in the first (rumor has it we had a FEW < 4.0's in #1) or second quartile.

If you were as happy to get C's as WiJG, you'll be in the fourth quartile.

If none of those apply to you, you're probably in the third quartile.

TA-DA!!!! Now you don't have to be surprised when you get your little slip of paper in your box in August that tells you your quartile. I guess I ruined the fun, but now you don't have to go looking for rank lists 😉

I've heard a rumor that your deans letter only contains your quartile and not your rank, which would work out fantastically for the people at the bottom of the quartile but not-so-great for the people at the top (can you imagine being the highest ranked person in the 4th quartile? Ouch!). Anyone have any more concrete info on that?

EDIT: Now that I've released the super secret information about my quartile, I've narrowed my identity down even further... DOH!

Cancer chemotherapy drugs...

Looks like oncology is definitely not for me either.

I should stay away from family practice/psychiatry as well cause all the anti-epileptics and anti-psychotics look the same to me as well.

Radiologists don't have to prescribe anything, do they? 😉

It's the latest party game craze! Forget the 6 Degrees of Kevin Bacon.... now it's the 6 Degrees of SDN!

Seriously, don't these people have anything better to do with their time...like learning to become doctors. Someone should tell them that they don't need to go to medical school if they just want to become detectives.

I still don't get what the big deal is...

No, it's not a big deal. I do have a hunch, though, that if we were more praising of our student representatives here, we wouldn't be facing this insult.

#1 Rule of Politics: If you don't like knowing what people think of you, don't run for office.
#2 Rule of Politics: If you don't care what people think of you, you're already a politician.
#3 Rule of Politics: Conduct polls to see what people think of you, and then disregard the data.

Obviously your student reps only know rule #3.

I hate politics! 👎

I would just like to offer a bit of free advice to all the 2010 and 2011 folks - when pharm rolls around for you guys, please don't put it off until the night before your exam. It seems like such a good idea, but then once you actually have to sit down and do it...

it sucks.👎

Unfortunately, I don't think I'm going to get to sleeping tonight. Yesterday, I said: "Man, I should really be studying Pharm right now. I know that if I don't, I'm going to be very sad tomorrow when I have to pull an all-nighter. Yep, I should definitely study."... it's not that I don't know what I should be doing, it's just the doing it that's the problem 🙂

Good luck, 2009ers, on your pharm test! :luck: After that, it's just hb. 🙂

Good luck to all of us having stupido meetings today. Remember -- don't apologize for things you didn't do, and don't show deference where it's not deserved.

So I think I'm not going to bother bringing my white coat to participate in the class picture tomorrow. I just don't feel that happy to be a part of my class right now. 🙁

For those of you who have meetings, I think we should ask who has been spreading these stupid lies about us. We also need to ask if we're going to have to deal with any more cr@p related to this witchhunt again.

Also, again, lame-o lurkers -- if you're going spread gossip about what we say here, take the time to actually read what we write.

So results from the meeting --
1. we were called in because of sdn, so the good news is that people weren't specifically saying so and so has a list.
2. i don't think there's a list. i think some lurkers misread our conversations and somehow because convinced there was one, and we all know how rumors go.

they did say that they're trying to make it next year so all grades are posted on blackboard or something similar, which is good news. also, they were nice.

Mmm! A good case of he said she said. Sounds all too plausible.

I'm glad it went well.

This whole conversation makes me curious who actually reads this thread. 😛

My meeting went fine too. I told them what I know which is not much since I've never seen a list (with names).
I thought they did a good job. It sounds to me like one of the deans was very upset and they were really trying not to make it any worse than they had to.
I guess time will tell.
