University of Southern California Application Thread

I submitted my application a few weeks ago and i just received an email from USC that my application is compelete.
when should i start preparing myself for the interview? (becuase the email said i will be notified about the interview 1-3 weeks before and i dont think that is enough time for me to prepare!!!)

Also where can I find some of the questions they usually ask at the interview?

I am currently working on my Part I Graduate App for USC.

1. For cumulative undergraduate GPA, did you guys (people who already submitted app) put PharmCAS GPA or transcript GPA? Because my PharmCAS cum GPA is higher than the one listed on my undergrad transcript.

2. For question "Please list any publications you have authored or co-authored, and any academic honors, awards or scholarships you have received" - Should I mention about being on Dean's or president's list? I don't have anything else to mention in this section besides this.

Thanks in advance for the reply

To answer your question:

1. I input my cumulative GPA from my undergrad transcript. (since it says "If your school's grading system differs from the 4.0 grading system, please provide the average you received on your school's scale.")

2. I also input Dean's List and other awards I received from my undergrad years.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the quick reply SlowPepper 🙂

My school uses 4.0 grading scale but after graduating from a 4-year uni, I went back to CC to complete some pre-req so my undergrad transcript GPA doesn't reflect average of all my classes..Should I still put transcript GPA ?

I am so confused 😕

Umm, then I think you should call the admission office to clarify it, to see if they want you to calculate your own GPA to include CC units into your 4-yr university transcript, because what I did was I input cumGPA I have on my transcript from my 4-yr university (didn't take into account my 6 units from CC).

I think once USC has all of our transcripts, they would have a better idea.

Hello everyone! Has anyone heard from USC yet or is it too early still?? Does anyone know about how long does it take them to process applications and send replies? I have submitted my Pharmcas on August 4th and my USC supplemental about 3 weeks ago. Pharmcas has processed my application already. Thank you in advance!

I submitted mine in late July and haven't heard of anything yet either. I wonder what's the hold up...

In the pre-pharmacy course section of PharmD secondary app, should I just mention one semester calculus course or all calculus courses I took in college (Calclus I-III) because the direction says "Not to list excessive courses" Did anybody do that?

Thanks

For my college, the whole series of calculus totals up to 4, so I listed them all.

They just got the 1st years oriented. You'll probably start getting your "lack" letters in the next few weeks. I wouldn't expect interview invites to go out until at least October and probably mid-October at that.

Lack letter is an email with an attachment showing what courses you lack for matriculation (meaning which courses you'll be needing to complete between now and entering in the fall next year)

I just signed up to be a greeter for the Jan 22nd interview date. Looking forward to meeting you guys! Good luck with everything 😀

Did you get your letters yet? I got my checklist and lack letter on Aug 26 and 27 respectively. I also received my USC ID number shortly after that. I submitted on July 2nd though. If you still haven't received a lack letter by October, I'd probably send a nice email to ask.

No I haven't gotten anything yet🙁 I submitted my applications in the beginning of August though maybe that's why.

I got my USC ID number by e-mail on September 8th but no checklist or lack letter yet...

I submitted my supplemental on 8/27 and my pharmcas was mailed out on 8/30 and i received the checklist and the lack letter on 9/15 and 9/16 respectively.

I did my undergrad there so most of my pre-reqs were from USC so that may have made it easier to determine if I was lacking anything.

My pharmcas was mailed on 9/13 and i submitted my supplemental on 8/15, but I have not gotten anything. I also did my undergrad at USC. I guess maybe they haven't received my pharmcas yet.

Heatheld were you ever a TAP student at USC??

Yea I'm not sure if it had anything to do with getting my undergrad there just figured that may be the reason my lack list was sent sooner

no i wasnt in tap because i did 2 years at csuf before my 3 years at sc (at csuf i basically took a ton of classes that didnt count for anything haha) were you in tap? when did you graduate?

I think the PharmCAS website should have some sort of status update that lets you know if they completed the GPA verification and sent it out to the schools. At least I vaguely recall something like that last year

Yes I was a tap student and I graduated this past may.

You remember correctly kmoogs... pharmcas posts all these updates and it shows that my application has been sent to the designated pharmacy schools, but I guess it just hasn't been processed by the pharmacy schools maybe.

I am currently wrapping up the supplemental applications for USC and I am a bit confused on this prompt:

.What unique, personal qualities and/or life experiences will you bring to your pharmacy career?

I am assuming they are simply asking me what makes me unique? Does it imply that I have to also address how these unique personal qualities will help me in my pharmacy career as well?

Hopefully I don't sound too stupid. I already worked on the UCSF pharmacy application and my ideas came out pretty quickly, but for some reason this prompt is throwing me off.

Thanks!😀

When did you submit your application? I submitted mine about a month ago, but I still haven't received anything yet.

Does EVERY applicant receive a lack letter or is it only for people who have missing prerequisites???

Interview feedback section on here is useful for that.

If this is the supplemental application, this is probably the paragraph that your interviewers will see before they interview you. Use it to bring out stuff you'd like them to bring out in your interview.

There aren't many people not missing prereqs this early. (Most people are still finishing up some in the fall semester or spring prior to matriculation.) I can't say for sure about those not missing prereqs, but I'm almost positive that everyone gets at least one lack letter to make sure that they aren't missing any prereqs if they're all done.

I'm pretty sure everyone gets a letter. I have all my prereqs done and my lack letter confirmed that.

I submitted my applications over a month ago and I haven't gotten a lack letter...i don't know if i should be worried😕

You shouldn't be worried. I didn't receive my lack letter until over a month also. I feel that the school admission is kinda slow on these things. Must be due to the high volume of applicants.

Have anyone gotten an interview yet? I haven't heard anything since the lack letter.

I submitted my supplemental the first week of August and I received my lack letter 8/30. I believe interview invites won't come out until 1-2 weeks before the interview date so probably won't hear again until Nov.?

I submitted mine on 8/24, but still haven't received any kind of letter yet.:xf: Hopefully it's not a bad thing.

November interview invites were sent out in the second week of October. So hopefully some of you guys will hear from admissions soon.

For those of you who got the lack letter and the checklist, who was the specific person sending it?? I am just curious to know.

I'm just wondering!!!If you get in to USC pharmacy school and for some reason you are not able to finish all the pre requisite classes (if only one of the classes is missing prior to start of the school) are they actually going to reject you and deny your acceptance to school?

I'd think that there are enough people who DID finish their prereqs that I wouldn't risk not finishing them. You're that easy to replace. I wouldn't say that it's automatic, but if you think it's a possibility, you might as well call and ask now.

If accepted with a conditional acceptance ... you would be obligated to finish your pre-reqs before matriculation. I'm pretty sure they can revoke your acceptance if you don't complete everything agreed to in a conditional acceptance.

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone received an interview invitation yet....
Can you post when you submitted your supplemental and when you received your lack letter?

Thanks

i think the lack letter said that interview invites were to be sent out 2 to 3 weeks prior to the interview date.

the earliest interview is nov 13th, so i doubt you will hear anything from adcom until after the 23rd of october.

Yes, Jim is VERY strict about this. I think there were 189 people in the class of 2014 and now we're down to 186. I'm pretty sure those 3 people didn't get their pre-reqs completed...

My PharmCas went out about 4 weeks ago. My sup last night. Transcripts last week. 😕

do they give priority by PharmCAS e-submit date or Mailing date? What about supplemental completion date? What if supplemental was completed before PharmCAS was mailed?

The date that you e-submitted your PharmCAS counts towards meeting the deadline or not. However, they actually only review your application when PharmCAS mails it out. For example, if you e-submitted in August but forgot to send in your transcripts and only did so a month later, the schools will count your application as being received during September and it'll fall into their September review lot. If the supplemental was done before PharmCAS was mailed (which is also my case), then they started the review when PharmCAS mailed them the whole application. This is the case with the schools I applied to. Bottom line: if it's rolling admission, they start reviewing your case only after everything (PharmCAS + supplemental) is submitted. Some schools (ex. USC) even require you to send them separate transcripts. If not, then the review starts after the application deadline.

I called admissions last week and they said they'd be mailing the 1st interview invites at the end of the month.

Anyone in here besides me that didn't receive a lack letter?
