Hey Guys,

I just interviewed yesterday for the Fall 2011 Class at St. Augustine!
I had an absolutely positive experience! I thought I'd go ahead and post my interview stuff for future applicants. (Old posts really helped me prepare, thanks!) The interview part was a bit of a blur, but here's what I got:

My essay was about the qualities of a PT, how they applied to me, and example of when I observed them in my observation experience. Other students' questions were How does PT/OT differ?, Discuss current healthcare topics, and What are some of the difficulties in being a PT? There were others, but these are the ones I remember hearing most.

My interview was quite vague. I didn't get any healthcare questions as far as reform or politics goes. (yay!) They mostly asked me personality questions- Why I wanted to be a PT, an example of when I had a conflict with a coworker/classmate and how I resolved it, What I would do if a classmate cheated, and my definition of integrity. It went quite fast. I had one other student with me, and our interviewers were a professor and past student/now practicing PT. They were incredibly informative and upbeat.

I cannot wait to here a response from them and meet some of you guys that interviewed for September as well! Good luck!:luck:

Which campus did you interview for? I also had an interview on Saturday at the San Marcos campus and my interview did not seem as easy and chill as yours.

utah- I interviewed in San Marcos as well. I'm sorry to hear yours was not quite as chill. Don't get me wrong, I don't want to set myself up for disappointment. I'm definitely still very anxious about hearing from them. I read A LOT from prior/current students from the various forums on here. From this site, typical interview questions, and APTA's website, I compiled a few pages of possible questions so I felt nervous, but prepared when going in. I stumbled a little, but felt like myself as well as my interview partner answered relatively well. I'm not sure if the professor was cheerful with good etiquette or sincere, but she did make me feel good by responding with "good answer" to myself and the other student a few times.
I'm a little reluctant now... I don't want to be overzealous, ya know? My interview partner told me he had heard "horror stories" about USA's interviews, but I didn't get that impression from previous students. What was your experience like? What all did they ask you?

Ya, I compiled a list of questions that I thought they would ask me from this site, various other sources, my experience with other schools, etc. I thought I was well prepared but I think my interview could have gone a lot better. I had two other people with me so there were 3 of us interviewing total. I was just very surprised to read that they did not ask you anything about the health care reform and physical therapy issues.

It started off fairly easy, what do you do to handle stress? Then we got a lot of scenarios thrown at us and how he would handle them. One of them was if you were a patient and you went to visit your doctor and saw that he was overweight and a smoker, would this me a good remodel? I felt like I had a good answer but it was difficult for me to articulate myself at the time. He also asked me about Vision 2020, POPTS, where I see PT in the near future, what I would bring to a picnic, some words to describe myself, what I define as integrity, what type of leader I am, etc.

Maybe I did do well and I am just over analyzing things because the other two people that I interviewed with did a good job in my opinion. But who knows. I guess we will see in a few weeks...

I can see where all of those questions would be a little overwhelming. All of those were questions that I had written down and was prepared for. If anything, I'd say my complaint was that we didn't get asked enough. I didn't have to answer anything about vision 20/20, HCR, POPTS, or even where I saw the future of PT going. So if anything, I'm a little concerned that our professor didn't want to know more. Maybe she wasn't very impressed.. ? I dunno. I'm pretty anxious though. I can't imagine waiting for another 2 weeks just to see I didn't at least get waitlisted. I'll be so bummed..
Is USA your top pick? I'll try to check on here at least every couple days to see if you've got your acceptance from them. Good luck, Utah! :luck::xf:

Oh, and ps- I'm sure you did fine! If you were prepared from reading on here, you were already a step ahead. (My interview partner had never heard of this website.) So I'm sure you did well. I've went back and forth since Saturday with whether or not I answered as well as I should've.

Did anyone hear back from St. Augustine yet? My interview was on Feb 26 and its been ALMOST 2 weeks! I'm so scared!

Utah, I plan on starting a facebook page tomorrow if no one has beat me to it. The May 2011 class has created one and it has been a great networking tool for them. I'll post the name on here soon.

My autobiography was 2 pgs and a half. my personal statement was a little over a page, i think thats all they wanted. I did not want to try to look like i was trying so hard by writing so much. made it straight to the point and relating it to why your trying to go to school there. my resume was simple, but i did put my observation hours as part of employment even if its volunteer.

if i counted correctly there was at least 150 people at the interview on feb 26th. then there was a 2nd interview day a week later. :meanie:

I was also accepted into the MOT program for this fall. It seems like the PT and OT groups will have a lot of classes together. Congrats to everyone and good luck to those still waiting!

Hey that's awesome news! Congratulations! Come join our Facebook group if you are going to San Marcos (and if you haven't already of course)!

I got my acceptance phone call on Friday 11, March for the Dual program at San Marcos. Contrats to all that have been accepted for the Sept 2011 class and for those whom are still waiting for their calls...keep your faith...and give it some time. You will hear from them soon.

I found out that after the Sat, Feb 26th interview day(which is when I interviewed in San Marcos), the week following was spring break for everyone including staff at St. Aug, so they had not even looked through the interview sheets yet. So keep you phones on high ring and and stay tuned in for your call. GOOD LUCK EVERYONE.

I look forward to meeting all my classmates and see you soon on facebook page for sep 2011 class. 🙄

Hi All! I received my acceptance call on Friday as well for the DPT program in San Marcos. I look forward to getting to you all a little better before the program begins in September!!😉

Hello fellow future OT! I got accepted in St. Augustine MOT program for fall 2011. What campus are you? I want to try and get to know some of the OT students for ST. A.
I was also accepted into the MOT program for this fall. It seems like the PT and OT groups will have a lot of classes together. Congrats to everyone and good luck to those still waiting!

I was accepted into the San Marcos campus. Someone here created a facebook page for san marcos so you should join that if you are san marcos also.

Hi!

I am currently in the process of applying for the MOT program USA-San Marcos for January 2012. I was wondering if anyone knows how many students apply/how many accepted into the program? USA is my number one choice and I am very nervous about applying!!

Thanks!

Hello everyone, I plan on applying to the DPT program, I am just curious to hear what and how people wrote for their autobiography and statement of purpose. Thanks a lot

I was checking out USA in San Marcos and noticed they have a part time off campus-on line program (yuck) but could be an option. Also saw that they do admissions 3xs a year. Is this info still current? Anyone know anything about this Part Time program? It takes 12 trimesters instead of 7 since is is less credits. I believe there are some weekends that are done on the campus. this was posted for 2010-11 on APTA.

To those who interviewed at the FL campus for the Fall 2011 class, could you give the rest of us any insight as to what the interviews were like? I saw some of the previous posts, but are there any other suggestions (wasn't sure if things have changed, so I just wanted to ask those who have most recently interviewed)? How did it work when you were interviewing with another applicant - did you have to raise your hand and take turns answering the question or was it whomever answered first could answer it and then the other applicant answered afterwards? I think that is what I would be most nervous about - interviewing with another applicant and feeling like you're having to compete to get your own original answer out first.

How about the essay writing? Were any of you stumped by the questions they asked?

Thanks in advance - just trying to settle my nerves.

bump this!

Hey Litlwarrior-

I am looking into the Part Time (FLEX) program at USA in FL. I went to an info session they held last Friday and it was very informative. The FL campus currently enrolls FLEX students in Sept and Jan. I'm not sure if it is the same for the San Diego Campus. The lectures are delivered online and via DVD. The labs are on campus and range from a couple weekends a trimester to 8 weekends a trimester (depending on the courses you are taking).

100% of FLEX grads passed the board on the first attempt (the national average is like 87%). I'd say it seems like a reputable program that requires a lot of time and dedication but for me it will be worth it.

Its a great option for me as I work full-time, own a home and don't want to graduate with $80,000 worth of debt.

Hope this help. Good luck!

Thank you for the info. I have checked their web site (CA campus) I would not be able to start until fall 2012 or thereafter. It is a long drive from Phx, AZ to San Diego campus which would include the overnight stay. The stats look very good! The costs are still high but working would be a possibility. Currently I just work as a lifeguard / water safety instructor during the summer / live at home. Grad w/ Kinesiology in May '12 not sure how employable that will be from looking at some of these posts. Good luck to you, Please keep me posted.
