University of Texas CoP Application

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Called UT.

Told me they couldn't give me details and that they're in the process of sending out acceptance letters. Still don't know if all of them are sent out today. Looking at the time and considering only one person posted about their acceptance, probably some more will be sent out next week. I know SDNers are just a small portion of the population, but still. Also, they told me if I don't hear anything til Wednesday, give them a call and they'll tell me my status.

That makes sense. We'll just have to hold out a bit longer.

Waiting is so hard! I sure hope I get a call Monday morning. 🙁

Got a phone call on Friday Feb 22. @ 5:10pm. So keep hope theres still chance. Also got an email shortly right after the phone call. I am still waiting on dental school acceptance. Once they call me, I am going to release my spot.

Man, knowing that you weren't even qualified to get in during first round of acceptances sucks...

Apparently one of my friends got a call on the 23rd (yesterday)... so they are slowly trickling out acceptances..

Has the fb group for the class of 2017 been made yet? Lets make one, so we can meet our future classmates.

Apparently UT has another interview date set-up during spring break.

Out of state student here. Just got a call from ut, offered a spot for fall of 2013

Got a call today too! I was really surprised and shocked! I guess patience does pay off! Good luck to you all!

Congrats to everyone! I wonder if there is a Facebook page that will be made so that people can start looking for roommates soon. I am currently an undergrad at UT and the housing here is incredibly competitive- we usually sign leases for the fall back in October-November.

How late into the day do they give out calls? And if we don't get the call by today, is that the end of the road for us?

Got a call today at 9:13AM!
Congrats to everyone and good luck!

anyone have the fb group link?

Nobody really knows to be completely honest. As the top post on this page mentions, if you don't hear anything by Wed, apparently you can call and find out your status. As far as the end of the road at UT, you could potentially end up on the waiting list if you hear nothing, which is a great thing. Many accepted students choose not to attend due to other offers, so I would call Wed and see where you stand before sinking your boat.

I received my call of acceptance this morning at 9:59am!!!! 😀
I am finding it difficult to articulate the level of my elation!
Talk about the greatest Birthday Gift ever! 🙂

So if we didnt get a call, we are SOL? This wait is really a bummer... considering UT is my top choice

Not at all! They made calls well into the 5 o'clock hour on Monday last week, and even if you don't get a call, there is still the waitlist which always moves from 3 to as many as 11 spots.

4:30 and I just got a call with an acceptance. It's still possible for those of you waiting.

Wah, wah, just got an email that says I'm on the waitinglist. lol

Got a call saying I'm number 1 on the waiting list. I hope someone gives up their spot. My future depends on it!

I got my email too, I am the fourth on the waiting list. Still hoping!

I highly think my file got lost. There was a huge confusion during my interview with my last name and first name being switched...

You like to engage in hyperbole ... haha.

If the people on the wait list would like to calm their nerves ... visit the UT college of pharmacy website, go into pharmd, and then there is a link to statistics on the left hand side that provides pdf files from years past on total number admitted, those that declined, etc. I only went back 4 years, but the lowest number of students that declined in one of those years was 13. In other words, you're fine.

There's so many reasons for somebody to decline ...
- Where you're from, family ties, tuition, spouse job, etc.
- People in this thread have brought up feeling 50/50 between UH and UT, or Tech and UT
- Although UT favors in-state applicants, out-of-state applicants do get admitted, and could very well turn UT down for an in-state option to save on tuition. I, myself, was worried about UT, so I applied to UNC and Ohio State. Now that I can pay in-state tuition, I'll very likely turn down those other two schools and attend UT.
- As I was informed, UH offers a great rotation at the PCCA for those interested in compounding heavy pharmacy careers
- Austin isn't for everybody ...

The list goes on and on. While most of us take attending a top 5 university into account, it's not everything ... and to some, it even means nothing. Many of us that were admitted and plan to attend UT, are still not 100% certain. I am sorry that you have to wait, but be confident, especially at number 1 and 4 respectively. Be proud as well, b/c over 73% of those who applied last year were rejected. Being number 1 on the wait list is a fantastic achievement! Good luck

What is the advantage of going to a top 5 university. (In the future I mean, beyond pharmacy school) I mean, do employers even care? Or is it just for bragging rights?

Congratulations to everyone who got in!

As for myself, I guess I'd be fine with a rejection given that my interview experience was somewhat underwhelming (mostly my own fault). If anything, I'll take with me the fond memories of my undergrad days at UT as I embark on the next 4 years at UH (or possibly Texas Tech if I get accepted there and change my mind).😛

The waiting was making me very nervous. Thank you for this information! Congrats on being admitted!

just so people don't get false hope, i was on the waitlist last year and it only moved up like 3 spots, it was awful hopefully it was a fluke and more of you get in this year. it's tough but don't give up hope!

The fact is, at one time or another, we're all subjective. I'm not claiming rankings are hugely important (and completely objective), but at the same time, did you know UT was ranked 4th when you applied and interviewed? If you want to work in retail ... I would say that school affiliation likely won't matter nearly as much, if at all (from what I've seen working in pharmacies). If you want to go on into residency ... I can tell you that the school attended came up in a few of my wife's interviews and in many of her friends interviews as well. I also worked closely with a pharmacy director at a hospital and we discussed this very thing. He said it's not hugely important, obviously, but that if you are seen as equally strong or slightly below another candidate who attended a much less prestigious university, that it's only natural that he would become subjective and take school attended into consideration.

Let's take our situation currently. Pharmacy school's take certain things into consideration - PCAT, GPA, volunteer work, experience. GPA could very well be influenced by the school you attended, which most pharmacy schools consider. Would you draw conclusions if you were considering a student that possessed a 3.5 at Harvard vs. a student with a 3.7 at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette? Even if it's incorrect, most of us would think the student at Harvard accomplished more and may be better suited to handle the rigors or pharmacy school. Schools, Pharmacy Directors, etc. have their own opinions on certain institutions. To say it plays absolutely no part ... not even subconsciously is reckless. I'd rather be safe than sorry. I'm going based on my own personal experience. Obviously, there is a large debate on this subject, and even a forum about it. Do I want to attend a highly ranked and well thought of university ... of course. Are those rankings everything? No. Family, my wife's job opportunities, tuition ... it all plays a part, but if I can attend a prestigious COP, while taking care of those other goals, awesome.

The benefit of attending a top school is primarily on the attendee to realize the advantages of. Those benefits are more often then not hard to quantify early on in your life/career. The broad advantages of top schools include:
1. Potential network growth opportunities. Think 10+ years out. If its a top university, your classmates should end up being successful/influential at places you might like to work.
2. Potential first job opportunities. The school may be a destination for or local to top employers seeking candidates out of school.
3. Potential benefit of the doubt. Benefit of the doubt in the case of those with lower qualifications for first jobs.

So I looked at the statistics for the past years and I assume the number of the declined people = to the number of those accepted from the waiting list? What I don't get this year is how the college is starting to send out new interview invitations, as mentioned somewhere on this page. If so, is the waiting list equivalent to being tabled for rolling admissions? This is so confusing.

For people who have been accepted: Is there a certain date by which you must claim admission offer or deny it? Those of us on the waitlist are curious and anxious!!

We were told our packets would arrive in March at which point, if UT is like every other school, they'll give us a date to put a deposit down by. If we get an email earlier than the packet about it, I'll let you know. Don't forget, spots still open up closer and closer to the start of the school year, as many people have more than one deposit down to give them more time to really break down their decision.

If we did not get an email about being on the wait list, do you think we are pretty much going to get a rejection email/letter?

You should try emailing Dr. Wilcox about your status. A lot of people did that last year.
