University of the Pacific Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Are you serious? All they told us was the $2,000 due now. I didn't know there was another thousand in March!

OOps.. It's actually May 15. If you read the small print on the deposit form it states that another 1,000 is due. I didn't know about the additional deposit until I read it and I just received a letter confirmation that my deposit was received and another 1,000 is due May 15.

There is always a catch.🙄 Well hopefully you will hear from UoP before then so you can make a more informed decision about what you will be doing next Fall.

I'm not trying to be offensive, merely trying to get educated.

I had never heard of University of Pacific before reading these forums... why does everyone like it so much? Maybe it's because I'm all the way from Florida, but I'm just intrigued 🙂

The program has been around since 1955 so they have a very established program and reputation. Maybe because you are on the East coast you have never heard of it but it is a reputable school with a highly respected program and very friendly faculty members and staff.

Very cool. Yea I feel like here I'm blinded by all the pharmacy schools nearby and all along the coast that I don't think about the west coast.

Got put on hold 🙁 I seriously don't know what went wrong. Maybe the writing?

*Sigh* Oh well. I'm going to do my best for my USC interview tomorrow. Hopefully that will go according to plan :xf:

My thoughts exactly; it maybe the writing sample but whatever.

My interview was on Nov 5th, and I just got a mail (not an email as I expected) notifying that I am accepted to UOP! 🙂
Good luck everyone! 🙂

* the mail was dated as 11/12/10 !

Wow, that was fast. Congrats!

Thanks guys! 😀

I have been checking my emails like 1000 times, and there was a mail from UOP and I thought it was a brochure. 😛 hahaha

Good luck to those who are still waiting and those who will have interviews soon!

p.s. I am from San Jose, so NorCal! 🙂

At least the $1000 is refundable. That's good to hear!

So bummed about my hold status...Waiting until March for news is killer.

when uop calculates the prereq gpa is that just the science prereqs or does it also include their other prereqs (english, psychology, public speaking, economics, and the liberal arts)??

thanks guys!

^thank you!
another question, I took microeconomics and I had thought uop accepts either macro or micro but I just checked their website and they only accept macro?

Yeah, you can use micro is you have a degree.

Quoted from website "Please Note: Microeconomics is acceptable IF you complete your Bachelor's Degree prior to entering our program or you have completed a course in U.S. History or Introductory Sociology."

I would choose to go to Pacific U Oregon over UoP in a heartbeat. You should compare the amount of money you would have to pay for both schools. They both would get you out in 3 years!!!

You're right...I got into Pacific U. in OR though...it was my #2 pick, but I really want UOP. :xf:

thx...that does make me feel better and OR is soooooooo beautiful!

Based on location, UOP would be closer to my family but OR is by far so much more beautiful than Stockton. Homes and apartments are pretty much brand new and the cost of living is so low. You can get a really nice house for $100K! Plus, Portland is only 20min away and it is full of great restaurants, nightlife and shopping! Can't beat sales-tax free shopping

The more I think about it, the more I'm liking OR. The faculty and students were very open and friendly. They were very candid on Interview Day and the set-up of the curriculum seems like something that would match my style of learning.

UOP has a great faculty as well, but I am somewhat daunted by the large class size. The students, however, really seem to love the school which is always a great sign. The city is ok as long as you stick to a particular part...otherwise, you are in a sketchy area. Forbes named it the top 5 most dangerous city in the nation and it apparently has the #1 foreclosure rate in the nation! It's nice that SF is close by, but even then it's a 1+ hour car ride.

Looks like I'm talking myself out of UOP right? 😛

I applied to both schools as well, but luckily for me I was accepted to my local school so didn't have to go through the agony of choosing, because I would have been in the same predicament. When I went to Pacific OR, the weather was absolutely gorgeous, and Kieran was just so sweet. UoP I feel is certainly more reputable, but they've been around for so much longer too.
I think either choice you make will be a good one, and if it's just based on tuition and location alone, I can certainly understand your choice on Pacific OR.
Congrats on getting in 🙂

It has been so quiet, a little bit weird...

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Yes it is weird! I know there were interviews on the 19th, my friend had one on that day.

Happy Thanksgiving!!!🙂

Dude you didn't even join our facebook page lol.😡😛

Yea it's kinda eerie in this thread as of lately. Not sure what's going on.😕

HaHa! I didn't join the facebook page because I don't have one 🙂. I feel like I am the last one on planet who doesn't have a facebook.

Have you heard anything from UOP since you've confirmed?

That is so weird. Maybe you're not from this planet.😛
JK. P4Sci does not have one either so I guess you're not alone there.

No I haven't. I am guessing the next thing is to get the background check out the way then possibly a physical.

Thanks! Now I don't feel like such an outcast!

I have yet to get the email for the background check consent thingy. Have you gotten one? And yea, I think your right about the physical. I am actually an undergrad at Pacific right now and I remember when I enrolled I had to get all my shots up to date and have my doctor fill out form.

No I haven't gotten it yet. I think we should be getting that in the next few weeks. Then for me it's gonna be trying to figure out the housing thing.

I think all my shots are up to date...if not then I am not gonna like that 'cuz I hate getting shots.

I hope my shots are up to date too! especially tetanus! That one hurts!

Are you planning on living on campus? I live off campus in a nice area that is pretty close to the school. I am so glad I don't have to move! But, there are a lot of apartments around here and the good thing about Stockton is that the rent is cheap! 😀

Yea I think for the first year I am gonna live on campus and then look for apartments off-campus in P2 year. I wanna be able to find a job first though.

Yea..living on campus has its benefits (I could imagine). And don't worry you will find a job.

I noticed that some recommend and brought portfolios?
I haven't received anything from UOP yet...(I am tier3 )but I have an interview at another school in a couple weeks.

What exactly should we bring in the portfolio? I didn't even think about bringing anything...:scared:

I didn't need mine, but I brought extra resumes and paper to take notes on in it.

My portfolio was kinda small and had a notepad in it to take down info and that was also where I wrote my questions on prior to the interview.
