I learned the alternate list moved up one spot.

Hey, I heard the same thing, and the lady I talked to said there should be a lot more movement around May 15th, which right now seems like a long way off. I know the UW is having a 2nd look weekend, personally I hope there'll be some more movement after that.

holy **** that was fast. I need to hurry up and send some udate letters. I'm on the unranked list so it's a SUPER longshot (i hear only like 1 or 2 get in from unranked) but I gotta try!

when i called, I was told that last year they accepted 4 people off the unranked and the year before that the number was 6. 🙂

weee! Hey Seagal, are you going to meet with Dr. Samson? I'm currently in St. Louis and I couldn't afford to to fly out, so I asked about phone appts, but Stella says he doesn't do those and that I should just send him an email. I was updating my dad last night on all this, and he was outraged that I would just not go, and offered to fly me out so that I have no regrets in the end. Woohoo! It still seems silly to fly across the country for a 20 minute interview. But it would be nice to see my parents.

The earliest date was may 12. It's cutting it a little close to may 15, especially if the ranked list starts moving a lot sooner than that. I hope they won't get to the unranked list until after I'm there. Like the monday after. 🙂

No, at this point, all I could do is wait. 🙂 Hopefully we will soon have more waitlist movement. Don't worry about them getting to unrankers before your meet with Dr. Samson. 🙂 Last year they didn't get to the unrankers till late June.

I'm up for calling Monday, since they're having the second look event today. Come mid May I'll be in Europe, so I'm going to have to depend on you guys calling and posting what you heard.

hey guys, as you'll probably figure out in the coming weeks I'm very neurotic. After that warning I went back and looked at the 04-05, 03-04, and 02-03 waitlist threads. By this time those years they'd accepted 6, 9 and 7 people off the list. I realize it's early but any one else worried our year is slower?

I did a search for Washington; they had various names but I always looked for ones that had a last entry in July/August. In terms of trying to keep my mind off all this junk, I'm planning a trip to Europe in May. But, as you can tell it's not working too well. 🙂

I plan on wearing a suit, perhaps without the jacket so it's not just like my first interview. I figured that you can't go wrong with looking professional, especially if we're looking to get off the waitlist. We gotta dress to impress!

ahumdinger, I haven't scheduled a meeting with Dr. Samson yet. I am high up on the Idaho waitlist, so I want to wait to see if I get in around May 15th. I spoke to a girl who didn't get in last year who reapplied and she met with Dr. Samson and she said that he was really helpful. He talked to her about the schools she applied to and her interview and everything! She highly recommended meeting with him. And, by the way, she reapplied and got in this year!

As for me, I have another acceptance, so this is basically my chance to say "PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE ACCEPT ME SO I DON'T HAVE TO LIVE IN RURAL MISSOURI!!"

So I was walking by the admissions office a little while ago and couldn't help myself, I went in and asked if there had been any movement. They're still on #6, although that shouldn't be much of a surprise since I'd called only a few hours before. It was worth a shot though. 🙂

My meeting with Dr. Samson was pretty laid back. He went over what the committee thought about my interview and what to do for the next time. He also commented on what he liked about my application. So, overall it was a positive experience. 🙂

it's pretty old, from 1995 (i can't believe i'm saying that's old), but at the bottom of the page, there's an interesting tid bit about 20 ranked and 20 unranked. Don't know how out of date those numbers are, especially since the document also says that they regularly accept about 18 off the ranked list.

Oh I'm doomed. I really blew it. He really grilled me good. First he asked me where else I applied, etc. Then he told me that my interview went very well and that everyone liked me. I was all happy but then it took a sour turn. (oh not to mention that he said I was a bit idealistic, in interview) He said that one of the issues that came up was that I had not lived in WA for very long, which is true, I'm really a resident only by virtue of my parents living there. After that he asked me why I wanted to go to UW (or maybe he asked me that first), and I stated that I was looking for a balance between patient care and research, which was what impressed me most after my work this year (I work with geriatricians/neurologists who do research). I contrasted this with U of Missouri, which does not have a good research emphasis. Oh, what else? He asked me where I saw myself in 10-15 years, I said I wanted to be a geriatrician, and he went on to counter everything I said. "why do we need geriatricians? I have a perfectly good internist who's not a geriatrician!" and "All that geriatricians do is take away all the patients' medication and then they come to me with heart failure."

He then asked me about the research I do now, and then we ended with a lovely reprise of my not-quite-WA-resident status.

Oh jeez I really blew it, he was really intimidating! And he joked at the end that he just draws cards for who gets in off the unranked list. Great. I told him that I hope he draws me.


Oh and 14 people have been taken off the ranked list.


i'm going to go dig myself a hole and cry in it. Seagal, you must have had a different Dr. samson!
