University student tried to tell me CC is way easier

I went from CC to University and must say it really is no different. Took Gen Chem 1 at CC and Gen Chem 2 at University and although I believe Gen Chem 2 is overall much harder, the level of difficulty of the more difficult concepts in Gen Chem 1 were on par with the University teachings of it. As mentioned its completely subjective, I've had easy classes at CC and University as well as brutally hard classes at CC and University. CC is no longer viewed as the college for "rejects" or any stigma of that sort, its a cheaper and more convenient way of getting 2 years of undergrad out of the way.

Gen Chem 2 should be somewhat harder than G-Chem 1. If it is "much" harder, your Gen Chem 1 class was either too easy or simply too superficial. The difference shouldn't be that great. Heck, my grade went UP 10 points (from a 96% to a 106% -- perfect scores plus every extra credit offered) in G-Chem 2. The course isn't that tough....

Differences can lie in the professor. Also, must be nice to have a chance for extra credit in a science prereq.

Haha.... I thought it was kinda dumb, but I guess profs do what they can to ensure people pass. Since they do no curving at that university (strict criterion-based grading), some freshmen classes offered extra credit on exams to ensure people had every opportunity to pass.

The CC in my college town is the highest ranked CC in the country. I've compared friends copies of their work/tests to the ones at the University. It's so much easier it's ridiculous

Did your chemistry department grade to a max of A or A+?

I personally do better with more conceptual material as opposed to really long calculations. Gen Chem 1 seemed more conceptual (still mathy) but Gen Chem 2 was more about long equilibrium calculations for the most part. I guess its all subjective.

6pts extra credit?? Our Gchem scores got lowered by 4-5pts for everyone because our averages were too high (B-) and needed to be lowered to a C+... And no one here gets perfect scores on all their exams >.>

That's where we are now? We rank CC's? I must have missed that section when my USN&WR hit the mailbox.

CCs are easy to get into, but the average GPA is like 2.2, so it's clearly not the easy way out. IMO it's for people who had a tough time in high school and need a way to prove themselves.

Class average was ~70-75% 😉 I wasn't your typical student.

As a student who has taken courses at a CC and University, I'd say it's up in the air for difficulty. I've taken really horribly easy (learned nothing new) at a community college, and then I've taken courses at a community college harder than any other one I've taken at any university.

I'd say the person saying for the OP to go to a CC is a gunner

I think it would depend on the ranking. I go to a CC that's in the top ten in the country. I think going there would be better than going to a lower-end one. I don't see why people stress over CC's so much. Just do the best you can do and move on.
