Unfortunately for me, I have had to withdraw from university this semester due to some severe family problems that have occurred recently. I am pretty stressed out about this, and fear it will affect my application. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks

Sorry to hear that.
I didn't withdraw entirely from university, but I did have to withdraw from a class due to family problems. I explained that in my explanation statement in my application, and honestly it didn't seem to affect my chances at all. I was still offered interviews at schools, and my withdraw never came up during my interviews. Admission into vet school is hard, but people understand that stuff happens, and I don't think it will reflect on you poorly if you had to take time off to take care of your family.

don't stress.
concentrate on your family issues.
When you get back continue (or start) to get good grades, and it will be a non-event.

That is what explanation statements are for (and you don't need to give many details either).

I had to withdraw in my junior year of undergrad after being kicked in the face and chest by a horse. I got a LOT of questions about it during my first 3 application cycles because I was just working to finish pre-reqs. It wasn't until I went back and completed my degree from my original university that I got accepted. You have an explanation section in the vmcas to explain weird parts of your application. But if you show that you can overcome by returning and doing well, then you should be ok.

I withdrew for a quarter, wrote about it on my explanation statement, and it never came up in any of my interviews. Hope everything turns out okay with you and your family.

I withdrew an entire semester, and so far have 3 acceptances this cycle. You'll be fine 🙂 Don' worry about it, focus on your family 😀
