Unpopular opinion: OMFS Internships are a waste of time

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
At the end of the day, non-categorical internships are a way for programs to get cheap labor and scut work completed. If your CBSE score is not adequate, it will be very difficult to “non-cat” your way into a program.

Not taking someone who shows up late and doesn't do his paperwork is understandable, but I've seen them not take people who do the paperwork and show up on time and take someone in private practice.

Doesn't this just prove our (Ushaseos and mine) point?

some non-cats I have met do 36 hour shifts, come to lecture, go home and repeat it, maybe they wake up late for rounds and don't get the list ready here and there because they are flying out for interviews and still returning to work and afternoon checkout. They have the grades and personality for it.

And then are told they aren't good enough on match day because the PD and chairman fall in love with some GPR resident with good grades they met once with no externship experience who isn't exhausted for their interview?

All I see is hypocrisy in that. And I've seen it multiple times. I'm sure ushaseos has seen it too.
I’m sorry you’ve had such a bad experience and it has made you this bitter. Mine has been quite the opposite. I worked hard, had zero “connections” and was an international applicant. I applied to 4s and 6s , ranked the places i had a good time at and it worked out well. It’s pretty misleading and it’s unfortunate to think about a d3 reading this post telling them that they shouldn’t apply where they actually want to go and base their decisions purely on your bad anectodal examples. Making broad statements about programs that you probably know so little about. You sound like you have some personal issues you need to take up with the PD at the program you did a non cat at.
