I got an email stating that I was missing a letter of evaluation and I called the adcom explaining the situation and the adcom kept insisting that I was missing a letter. After s/he carefully look at my file, s/he noticed that it was there.

I'm not sure if I was rude but s/he was obviously very confused (maybe even lazy to look over the application because s/he said s/he checked) and I had to put my foot down to stop the adcom from insisting that I was missing a letter. At the end the problem was solved and I politely say "with this my application should be complete right?" then "thank you so much for your time, have a good day"


do you think this fiascal has ruined my chance at the school?

They're only human. Imagine trying to keep thousands of applications and papers organized. We've all experienced those moments where you think something is missing but it turns out it is right in front of you.

At least the individual was professional and sent you an email rather than not notify you of the missing letter. In fact I had a friend who was first batch a few years ago and had his entire application complete. One school he applied to didn't receive all of his information and he never found out about it until he checked up with the school himself. He was able to interview there but was not accepted. He is happy at the dental school he is presently attending but I think he is still upset about what happened.

I wouldn't hold a grudge and I doubt this situation will have any bearing on their decision regarding your application. It may also be likely that the individual you spoke with isn't even on the admissions committee but is just an office worker. Anyways, good luck!

It's not realistic to call every school and ask if you're complete there...I'm sure adcoms would get really annoyed if we all started doing that, so what can we do but wait and see?

I have just been keeping track on a spreadsheet of all communications with schools. I think it is best to keep track of this information whatever way you prefer to keep track of it doesn't really matter.

For example if I realize that I haven't received a supplementary application from a specific school or some other communication like application complete then I would check on AADSAS under school decisions to see what was listed. If the information wasn't available there I would check SDN to see what other applicants are saying on the subject. And if I couldn't really find any info then I would check with the schools individually first by email then by phone. I have talked to many schools already this cycle via phone and email and most of them have been very kind and helpful. Don't over do it and call them multiple times because your worried about this little detail or that little detail but certainly call if you feel there are larger issues that need to be resolved. I think most adcoms and office personnel are doing their best with the hundreds and thousands of papers they have though.

I'm sure it's very stressful for them with all the applications. I can't imagine what it's like to be an adcom right now! That's why I was thinking just wait and see, which is basically what you're doing but in an organized fashion.
