UofL Status

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Well, I got a PM today from someone who apparently lurks around this thread. He/she interviewed 11/5 (I think?) and claims their status changed to the "Notification Pending" thing after Tuesday. Of course this is all heresay, but I suppose that's what breeds most pre-med neuroticism anyway...

There you go. Bursting my little bubble of hope. 🙂

Yeah, it was a real downer for me too, but I'll try to balance it out for you:
I have a MS-1 friend at UK who was also accepted to UofL. Apparently UofL never changed her status. A letter just showed up, she sent in her deposit, eventually withdrew, and the status stayed the same. So I guess no news is just no news.

Have any OOS'ers been shown some love?

I know of a girl (OOS) who interviewed with me who got her acceptance like a week and a half later. Also, at my interview they said they were opening up 10 new spots just for OOS so I would imagine that plenty of OOS students are gettnig love.

Hello,
My first post. I am OOS and have been accepted by louisville. My numbers aren't the greatest either. I just received my letter on 12-14 and I live in Indiana.

Well, no letter yet. I guess they didn't get to me at the last meeting. Guess I'll have to wait until January 8th before I can get my hopes up again...

When did you interview clockwork? No need to be discouraged. It took them about two and a half months to get back to me.

It was on Oct. 10 (+/- a few days, I'm not sure). Last Tuesday was their third committee meeting since my interview, so I was hoping for an answer, that's all...🙁

Committee meeting tomorrow, right? Let's all keep our fingers crossed for each other. Good Luck to everyone, especially you clockwork. You've been waiting even longer than me and I'm going crazy so I know you must be insane. Keep me updated everyone. It feeds my neuoticism 🙂

Nothing here, as usual. I would feel a lot better if I could rely on my "application status" page to be accurate. As it is, I still wait for the mail every 2nd and 4th week regardless. :/

Nah, nothing here either. I've gone ahead and relegated myself to "future re-applicant" status. It's not the worst thing in the world though. I just have to hit the old snooze button on life...

I've got you all beat, interviewed 9/13. Thats got to be some sort of record for time limit between interview and decision.

You're kidding, right? There's no way. I would be going crazy (actually, I already am...). Have you called them or anything?

yep, I call them about every 2 months. It's horrible, they dont tell me anything. The worst part is, I can see the admissions building from the lab I work in.....I just don't get it.

Wow. I'm so sorry they are jerking you around so much. I had actually planned on calling them tomorrow. I'll let you know if I find out anything, but I'm not counting on it.

Well, I ended up calling the Office for Rual and Minority Affairs, because I had some questions for them anyway. She told me that it was getting to be time to worry, because Jan/Feb is pretty late to not know anything. But she offered encouragement by reminding me that the committee only met once during Nov and once during Dec so they are a little behind in the decision making process. She actually pulled up my application and looked at it while we were on the phone, so maybe my obvious continued interest will help get my name in the mix at the next meeting. Can't hurt anyway. Good luck to you guys.

I got nothing here either. When I called I asked when the last meeting was going to be (since I figure that'll be a catch-all for perpetual hold people like me) and she said it would be in March. I don't think I'm even going to check again until then. I mean, why would they suddenly decide on me in Feb when they haven't for the past 4 months?

I know how you feel dude, I'm starting to think they lost my entire application. It frustrates me that they don't tell you anything, not if your on hold, been reviewed, need to be reviewed, waitlisted, etc. I guess the most obvious answer is we are being rejected or waitlisted.

This is ridiculous. I would like to know how they chose which applicants to talk about in their meetings. One girl I interviewed with has almost the exact same (low) stats as me and she's already recieved notice of a full tuition scholarship! I just want a definite answer. If they're going to reject me, just do it already. I need to be able to start figuring out what I'm going to do with the next year!

Maybe they are preparing our scholarships....hahaha....right

Wouldn't that be nice? It just frustrates me so much to not know why they are doing things this way. UK took a week and a half to let me know I was on hold. Yeah, hold sucks, but at least I know that they haven't lost or fogotten about me! It makes me feel like UofL doesn't even care about us, their potential students.

Last Friday I received and email inviting me for an interview. If anyone has interviewed and could give me some feedback. What questions they asked, how nice they were, etc. That would rock. I am OOS.

Thanks.

Full scholarship? URM/Rural applicant?

Congrats on your interview! It's a very laid-back, fairly enjoyable day.
At U of L I had one very nice, enjoyable, conversation-like interview and one that was more straight-forward. It was nice for me to know that the interviewers at U of L had no idea what my GPA and MCAT score were. At the start of the day, our host told us that our numbers were unimportant at this point. She said that if we didn't have the numbers we wouldn't be interviewing this early. So that definitely made me feel better! The questions I can remember are:
What one thing would you like for the admissions committee to know about you that might not be on your application?
How does your application show that you are caring?
What do you feel is the biggest weakness on your application?
Tell me about yourself.
Is there a defining moment in your life that pushed you towards a career in medicine?
What would be missing from next year's class if you were not a part of it?
What led you to medicine?
What will you do if you are never accepted into any medical school?
Do you have any siblings? How old? What are they doing now?
What is your favorite part about Chemistry? (My major)
Have you ever done anything fun in the lab? (This interviewer was also a chemistry major and he told me about how he would mix random chemicals and set things on fire. I don't think he was looking to get me in trouble. I think he was looking for something funny!)

Also, at my interview day they told us that they were opening up 10 additional seats specifically for OOS, so that should make you feel good!

Don't forget to check out the interview forums on SDN also. :luck: Let us know how it goes.

The interview invitation email gives the address of one hotel. Has anyone stayed there or at any other hotels in Louisville? Any info would be great. Please let me know what your hotel was like. Was it quite, did it have a gym, were there restaurants nearby, was it close to the school, did they charge for parking, and did they have breakfast? I know that is a lot to ask but any info would be really appreciated.

Thanks

I stayed at the Quality Inn I think. It was near the main campus and a short drive from the med school campus. There's this fish fry restaurant around the corner that has some good food if you like fried fish. There's also some fast food joints. There was a gym but it wasn't big. It had a bike, treadmill, stair climber and a few machines. It was quite and the rooms were very nice especially for the price. Good luck.

I was talking to my advisor today, and he said that he has heard that U of L has given out all the acceptances already, and all that's left is waitlisting. Has anyone else heard this?

Same thing for UK too.

I'm hoping for one of my friends though, that this isn't true!

I can confirm that this is true for University of Kentucky, but I'm not sure about University of Louisville...Good luck! :luck:

From what I understand, UK has given out all the acceptances they currently have, but they are waiting on some legislation to pass which may open up ~10 spots or so for the rural track. These spots are for people who said they'd be interested in doing their 3rd and 4th year in a rural hospital. So I guess if you signed up for that there's still hope, but otherwise there isn't.

This would be a serious bummer for me. I haven't even heard from UofL since my interview in september. UK put me on hold shortly after I interviewed. Thank god I recently scored another interview in my home state. If that doesn't work out either, I guess I don't mind a year off.

I know several people who are holding both acceptances to UK and UL. Spots should open up on the waitlist at both places.

Yeah, I know a few as well (including a blood relative). I'm guessing things will move a little more after the deadline. When is that again? Of course, I don't know if I'm waitlisted or rejected at UofL, so it may be a moot point.

I hope they havent given out all thier acceptances, my interview isnt until next week. I dont know though it seems that rumors like this seep out every year. It may just be the schools way of seeing who is still willing to make the trek for an interview. is it stated that all spots are filled for both in-state and OOS?

For what it's worth, I think there are currently 158 students on Blackboard's roster list that are at least holding acceptances at U of L.

Talked to UL. They still have a few openings. They will be admitting through March. If you haven't heard back by then consider yourself WL. Bummer. I didn't get an answer on how many spots were left for IS and OOS. There is still hope!

Thank you for posting this. It does make me feel somewhat better. Although, I have to admit, I'm not entirely happy with UofL at the moment and my cynical side tells me to not trust them... Oh well, Good Luck to all of us!!

I should have posted this in my previous post but I got excited and forgot. UL also said no new updates till Wednesday at the close of business. The committee meets Tuesday and decides; the next day letters go out and the website is updated. Enjoy your weekend!

I know this contradicts others' posts, but I just got off the phone with the admissions office and was told 2 things:
1. They will still be handing out acceptances for a quite a while.
2. The website probably wont be updated until the end of the week. Check on Fridays.

For the first time they were actually very nice and helpful. I was impressed. I am going to choose to look at those 2 new bits of information as encouraging.

I have heard that UofL releases the rankings of their WL by thirds (i.e. they will tell you if you're in the top, middle, or bottom third). I'm wondering when they do this. I figured it would be some time before the May 15th acceptance deadline since that's when the most movement would be. Anyone have any more solid info than my shaky musings?

Not to thread jack, but since most of us applied to UK too, anyone know what the deal is over there? I was told I would hear from them at the end of january, or in february?

You're on hold too right? Kim Scott originally told me thay would reveiw hold candidates in January but I spoke with her last week and that has obviously been moved to February. Any interviews being conducted at this point are only for waitlist positions. The review of hold candidates will either place them on the ranked waitlist or reject them. No acceptances will be offered at this point from what I understand.

Hope that helps

That sucks for us I suppose, before now I had a small glimmer of hope that OOS candidates might be being held for at least a couple outright acceptance spots, oh well.
