That sucks for us I suppose, before now I had a small glimmer of hope that OOS candidates might be being held for at least a couple outright acceptance spots, oh well.

Well, I'm not OOS so it might be a different ballgame for you. :luck:

I'm still waiting to hear something from UofL...Anyone know if it is normal for them to wait later to interview OOS students?

I think quite a few OOSers have already interviewed / received decisions. When were you complete? It took them 3 months from completion to offer an interview to me and it's been another 3 months of waiting for a decision since then, so don't give up hope yet. At my interview, they told us they were opening up even more spots specifically reserved for OOS and today on the phone they told me that they still had plenty of acceptances to offer, so don't get discouraged. :luck:

Hmmm...my app was complete in September:-/ Thanks for the encouragement...good to know they still have spots! I wonder why they wait so long...I'm sure my app has been reviewed several times at this point.😱

Im OOS and I interviewed in Feb. I hadn't heard a thing until I updated my application in Jan. I heard back within 2 weeks with an invitations to interview. I turned my application in over the summer. So it took them a long to send me a invitation. They meet tomorrow so you may find out something then. Best of luck.

I must say the post interview waiting has been the worst. I can do nothing but wait. This is the worst. It was better when I had no interviews and knew I was F'd. Not really but that is what it feels like.

Saw your avatar. I love that book.

I wouldn't hold your breath for tomorrow, I'm OOS and have been waiting since September.

That appears to be the trend. Maybe they are just waiting till Feb to decide. That is what I am banking on. Im going to stay positive.

The Dean of Louisville came to my school yesterday and I asked him about getting state residency after a year. He said this was absolutely NOT possible and that any med school that told you that you could get residency after a year was lying. Is this true?? I've been told you can get residency after a year at EVERY med school I've been to. Are they all really lying?? Has anyone heard differently about Louisville?

Thats true about louisville, if you applied, you would know. It eplicitly states this on the secondary. I think there are schools that do let you do this though, just not Louisville.

DC is right. Its a bummer for you but a win for the school.

Louisville's acceptance packet has a page that you have to sign (if you're OOS) that you will have to find the means to pay OOS tuition even if you became a KY resident. So if you're accepted as an OOS, then you'll be considered OOS for the 4 years-- and the signature is required in order to accept a spot.

Ouch. Shut down from all angles.

I dont know how some of you have been waiting so long. I have aged a decade in over a week. Errrr. Well I take that as a positive sign. Regardless I will be calling Ms. Jackson tomorrow to bug her. Might as well keep it up.

Just checked my status and it says "Decision Notification Pending". They must have talked about me Tuesday! If you're religious, please pray for me. If not, wish me luck. This is just about all I've got.

Good Luck everyone.

I've got my fingers crossed for you. Seems like you and I have been in the same boat here for quite a while. My status is still "Decision Pending" so it looks like they still didn't get to me. Let us all know how it turns out!

Hey, good luck. At least you know that you are leaving this horrible place called post-interview limbo. 👍

When I called I asked when the last meeting was going to be (since I figure that'll be a catch-all for perpetual hold people like me) and she said it would be in March. I don't think I'm even going to check again until then.

I just saw this and thought I'd let you all know that I've checked my status 3 times today. Just when I think I'm getting away from it all, they pull me right back in.

Still no change, BTW.

Solid!

Damned federal holidays with no mail.

That is all I have to say.

Aww. Thanks so much. I'll let you know the minute I hear anything.

I'm an OOS and I was wondering what native Kentucky residents thought about the University of Louisville vs. the University of Kentucky. Which medical school is better and why?

They're very different in a lot of ways. One of the things I've heard people cite a lot in their explanations of where they went was the city. Louisville is much more urban and cosmopolitan in comparison to Lexington which is much more rural and not very diverse. UofL's class size is also ~150 while UK's is closer to 100, though it's suppose to grow to 130 or so in the next few years.
There's also the difference in curriculum approach, though that's the case between every school I imagine. UofL has block exams after the first semester first year so that you take all your tests at once in four hour blocks to more closely simulate the Step 1 atmosphere.
UK is currently building a big brand new hospital that will be finished in time for the class of 2012's 3rd year rotations, though UofL is associated with (I think) 4 separate hospitals.

Those are the quickest off-the-cuff things I can come up with right now. If you're OOS with ties to the state and you have no preference right off the bat for either school, I'd say apply to both. They're both good schools that match students into just about every specialty.

Does anyone know if both these schools have a dermatology residency program? 🙄

Oh, I wasn't too sure if the University of Kentucky had one. Do you know where I can confirm this information?

It says that only University of Louisville has a Dermatology Residency program...🙁

I expected you to end with your preallopathic life with:
"So long and thanks for all the fish"

Best of luck and congrats.:banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana:

Yeah, nothing says success like a dancing banana

Wow! I'm so jealous right now! Congratulations!

I would also like to submit that you had to work for this a little harder for this than many people since you had to wait it out for so long. Take a nice long sigh of relief! 👍

Thanks for all the support guys! I'm still a little shocked myself to be honest. Yes, I'm going to pre-orientation tomorrow. See anyone there?

So what did those who attended think of the pre-orientation? After attending both UKs and ULs sessions, the decision is pretty clear cut for me.

at the preorientation did they say if the class was full yet or anything along those lines? Since I am still outside the fence I was wondering if anything that might interest me was said. Or was the PO just a propaganda meeting?

To me it seemed mostly propaganda. I'm going to post some of the info they gave us in the class thread whenever I get a chance to scan it in. I do know that they are doing interviews up through march, though.
