UOP 2009 application process

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Same thing here. I've just stored them in the back of my mind so I hopefully have something to talk about when they ask me the "grilling" questions. But my understanding is that most of it should be laid back and straightforward except for a few of those curveballs.

Also, should we bring our resume and/or any other materials? What do you think?

Personally, I am not bringing the materials. First of all my printer is broken and I have to go to the airport in 30 minutes, lol; and also I am thinking they should have them. I don't think it would be a bad thing to bring them though. Also, did you do the picture thing? I had to take one of myself and print it out on photo paper at work. It's not exactly professional, but at least I was wearing something nice in it, lol. Do you think they expect it to be professional? Gah! Good luck!

I got a date-10/15/2008 next to my PCHK and the only missing date is the PINT. Does anyone know what PINT office use only is? Thanks...

I'm going to let them take the picture and if they feel justified in taking my $10, they can do so. It'll save that small hassle. It's not like it's free if I go get it done at Walgreen's or something...and at least I'll be dressed well.

good luck to all of you tomorrow at the UOP interview!:luck:

for those who are being interviewed soon:
Do the ppl from UOP tell you how long after the interview will you know if you got accepted?

Tomorrow interviewees,

What time are you planning to arrive there? Do all of you know the campus really well and have visited it before your interview? Will it be hard for me to find since I have never been to the campus?

Thanks.

I have never even been to Stockton, so I am not quite sure exactly where UOP is. However, it seems that my hotel is only like 3 miles away, so I plan on leaving like 45 minutes ahead of time to allow for parking, finding where I need to go, and taking into account the chance of them starting early. Better safe than sorry =p. See you there!!!!

For those who are interviewing tomorrow or planning your trip up to Stockton, anyone booking a shuttle from SMF to UOP? If so, which company did you use, how much was it, and were they reliable?

It might be hard for people who have not been to the pharmacy school before. Just know that it is not on the main campus, and the road that actually leads to the pharmacy school can be missed easily.

^ Nope. But if you don't bring one yourself, they'll charge you a $10 fee for taking it for you.

For those who interviewed, how were your interviews? What kinds of questions were you asked?

My experience was pretty good I guess. I did the interviews first. The first was the student interviewer, who was pretty nice, but didn't really seem like he cared a lot about the process. He basically asked me one situational question, wrote down the notes to my answer, and just a couple more basic things...I was kinda bored in there. The faculty interviewer was nice and seemed more interested, I felt like I did really well in that.

The essay wasn't bad either. You get an hour and it's a two page maximum. It's a pretty laid back day. They don't make it seem like it's going to make or break you that much. I wasn't quite as impressed with the place/program as I wanted to be for some reason...I mean, I'm sure it's a good program, but Stockton just seemed depressingly run-down, and there's nothing really impressive about the pharmacy buildings, so it's hard to get really fired up about anything there personally.

Not to say that I wouldn't go there if I had to, but it might've slipped down a notch. We'll see if I get in first anyways. 😛

Well, I had a wonderful experience. The Dean, coordinators, and students were very nice. They focussed on trying to make us feel comfortable so that we weren't so nervous. The essay part sucked like all essays (I don't like writing essays). The one-on-one interview with the student was very interesting, not boring. I was asked general questions (none were interrogating) and afterwards we got to ask them questions as well. When I interviewed with the professor, it seemed like he made up his own questions as we started talking. There were a few difficult questions that surprised me.

The school is located in Stockton and there might not be much to do, but I personally think that's a plus because I won't have to worry about getting distracted. My overall impression of UOP's program is that it's awesome. The faculty seem to care alot about the students and I was told that the three years your there fly by so fast.

Was the essay question healthcare related? or just general question?

Was the essay question healthcare related? or just general question?

It wasn't directly healthcare related, though a lot of people probably wrote about that. It won't be anything that requires specific knowledge...they emphasize that there's no right or wrong answer and that it's basically to get a feel for your writing skills.

The day went by really smooth. The interviews really are like conversations. This makes it hard for you to prepare for it, so as long as you know your ps, resume, there really isn't any thing else you can do.

you guys who will be going for your interview at UOP soon... need not worry about it. ...

there's nothing much to it....

they emphasize that it's more like a "chat" than an interview ...

the student interviewer who interviewed me was more nervous than I was...

so when she asked me what I like to do in my past time.... I started talking about sushi... and she happens to like sushi too... so we went on talking about eating sushi and what not for about 10 minutes....

I guess... by then she kinda opened up a little to me also..... so I felt relaxed and more confidence so to say....

I was told by one of the moderators... that the students have a list of questions to ask you ... and they randomly pick from their list....
and their main job is to really jot down direct "quotes" of whatever you say... so make sure you structure your answers and emphasize on strong keywords... because that's all they are doing... writing short phrases that can give the admissions committee a brief picture about you....

the faculty interviewer for me was a tougher than I thought it would be...

mainly because he asked me a really hard question that I had no answer for....

q: tell me about a time where you had to write a written presentation, and how did it affect your audience?

I'm like.... WOW.. ??!!! how do I answer that....
I'm still thinking of a good enough answer up until now .. .

if anybody can think of a good enough response to that question, please let me know ......

haha ...

but overall ... the interview process is pretty cool....

so no stressing out ..... .

good luck to the rest of you SDNers who will be having interviews at UOP....

peace out ..

did they tell you how long after the interview would they let you know if youre accepted?😍

3-4 wks, but there might be a delay bc of the holidays.

I loved the interview (or "chat") day here! Everyone was so friendly and inviting, and even though I got that faculty member with the tough question mentioned above, I still had a great experience. I know no matter what, everyone stresses, but really, it was not as stressful as I expected it to be. I really hope I get in!! >.< Good luck everyone!

Wow a lot of positive feedback! I hope I'm granted an interview here now.

i agree with the rest of the 10/17 interview candidates 🙂, they really emphasized it as more of a "chat" than an interview -- besides the faculty interview, most of your day is spent with the students.

my student interviewer went more off of the resume you turn in with your application so try to take a look at that while you prepare. i was more nervous about the faculty interviewer, but it turned out to be my favorite part of the day. he was very friendly, open to converse, and responsive to my answers. the writing sample wasn't bad at all, you get a lot of time and scratch paper if you like to outline/write out all your thoughts first like me. the topic was very generalized so you shouldn't have trouble finding something to write about and besides it doesn't seem to matter what you write about; instead, they want to see if you can formulate a structured essay in the allotted time.

i arrived at the interview at 12:10pm and there already were people there, so it's nice to come early and get to know the other candidates -- it helps to ease any last minute nervousness!

oh, make sure you eat a good breakfast before you go 🙂

good luck, everyone! :luck:

each of the interviews were 20 minutes long (you get a "5 minutes left" knock on the door) and i didn't get any questions at all throughout the day about current issues in pharmacy.

Hello
For those who got an interview, congrats! If you dont mind, can you share your stats with us? Thank you

Even my faculty interviewer was weirded out by that question, and said I could talk about an oral presentation, so I did the best I could with that.

Yeah same here. I really didn't understand the point of that question. Wasn't there a second part to it about "creative writing"?

Is it true that they only allow you to use pen for the essay?

If there was, I was not asked it.

I believe those "situational questions" are just a chance for them to see how you think through a question...your response is not as important as how you attack it logically in my opinion. Maybe I'm wrong.

i submitted my supp ~8/18 and have a pchk of 9/30 and got an interview today!! 🙂

CONGRATS! My PCHK is 10/6 so I hope I will receive an invite later this week! That would be awesome!

and i happened to stumble upon the application status checker just for the heck of it, and i see there's a date next to PCHK! dated 10/16/08

👍 cool dude!

Hi all, just to update you guys, I'm a tier 2 applicant with a 9/29 PCHK date, and I received my interview letter today. I'm scheduled for 11/21, so see some of you there hopefully! =)

I have been preparing for the situational questions listed in the feedback page. Do those help?

yeah, i looked through each of the previous interview questions on SDN and made sure i could answer those. i didn't really write out my answers, although i think that helps for some people. instead, i made a small list of specific experiences/instances/lessons i could touch upon (for leadership, community service, pharmacy, etc) so i wouldn't have to sit there and think too hard for an example. that helped me a lot.

other than that, it was very much like a normal conversation for me. most of the student interviewer questions i got were directly derived from the resume 🙂

<3 good luck!

Anyone know the cheapest/closest motel to stay at?🙂

Is the received date posted in UOP website the date they received my application or the date I submited PharmCAS and supplemental?

What is PCHK?

for pharmcas, the date should be the date you sumbitted it. for supplemental, it should be the date they recieved it. it appears like these on my status checker.

Really? So maybe I have called them to check because I submitted pharmcas on 8/25, supplemental on 9/1. However, all of the date showed on the UOP checker is after that date. My file complete date is 9/29/08. It the same as the date PharmCAS mailed my application.

so I am assuming they are still doing tier 2 applicants?

i wonder when they will review the rest...

Good luck on your interviews!!!

on the actual interviews right now, they are doing tier1 and 2 together. Im tier 1 and have an interview the same day as tier2.

I'm not sure whether this has been brought up...
I jsut checked my application checklist over the uop website, and theres this weird combination of 4 letters...its something like "PHCK"

Does anybody know what that is? 😕
