hello everybody .... i got my acceptance email too ...
i interviewed on the 17th though ... so i guess those of you who interviewed later on.. have to wait just a little bit more ... 🙂

I thought that the interview or "chat day" was very relaxing and everyone was really friendly. I also thought it was great that students were running most of the day which gave us a chance to get to know them and how it is at UOP.
 
It was very relaxing. They stress that the purpose of the interview (or "chat day") is to see whether we can be ourselves and if we can hold a conversation.

Also, I think they throw out indicator questions to see how honest we are. (the dean alluded to this in this opening remarks)

for example, both the professor and the student asked if i considered other schools. its easy to say that UOP is my first choice, so its the only school im applying to...but i think that would raise a red flag about the honesty level of hte applicant.

anyway, my advice is not to stress out, and be yourselves (you'll hear current students and faculty say this 100 times throughout the day)

did they tell you when you'll find out if you got in? b/c i have mine next week, and the week after that is thanksgiving and then after that is their finals week, so i dont know if they'll let us know before or after they go on vacations.... what do you think?
 
For people who interviewed on Oct. 17/24th, did you all hear something from UOP already?
 
They said we would hear from them before Christmas.

I just called, and admissions said that only some of the letters were sent out last week, but most will be sent out this week and next week.

I was soo worried they sent out all the letters already!! Good luck to everyone who hasn't gotten an acceptance yet!:luck:

Nope, not yet. But the email said they were being put together, so I'm assuming they weren't mailed out yet maybe. UOP mail gets to me in a day since I'm closeby...

I would look at the interview feedback on this site and maybe jot down some answers to all the questions, or at least think about them...I uploaded the questions I was asked and I'm sure a few others did, so that'll give you a headstart right there. But I'll tell you what I can here.

There's two twenty minute interviews...one with a faculty, one with a student. The only "given" is that each one will have a specific question where they're supposed to jot down your response. One was, "Talk about a leadership role you've had and how you went about it" (or something like that) and another was "Think of a presentation you had to give; what did you do and what was the result" (again, something like that). Other than that...the questions were really basic and laid back. The student didn't ask me much at all, but the faculty fired a lot of questions, nothing too crazy though. I think they had a sheet of suggested questions that she pulled them off of, but I'm not sure. For instance, I was asked:

- Why pharmacy?
- What are three traits a pharmacist needs to have?
- What is the greatest strength you would bring to our program?
- What do you do for fun?

But really, there isn't much to the interview, at least at UOP. They emphasize that it's really just a "chat" and that there is no right or wrong answer. The biggest thing is to just be yourself and communicate well...demonstrate that you can get your point across in a concise, collected matter. I just tried to answer the questions I was given and not stray off topic. My answers probably weren't great in and of themselves, but I think I talked about relevant stuff and talked through my thought process to sort of elaborate on things.

Essay is nothing major. Prompt was "If you were required to offer yourself in service for one year, what would you do and why?". You have a 2 page maximum and one hour to do it. They just want to know that you can organize your thoughts and maintain proper grammar and writing techniques.

It can be kind of a long day so try to get something to eat before you get there in the morning. By the end of the day I was completely wiped out...:laugh:...good times though. Good luck all.

Can't wait to rip off the envelope... and find out that UOP wants $170k from me!!

But it's all good.... I'd rather pay that much and get out 1 whole year earlier.... It's all about the opportunity cost!!...

anyone looked around for apartments yet ? or everybody planning on staying at the campus apartments ??....

one thing I heard from my friends who go to UOP... a lot of the pre-pharm people stay at the apartments... hence... a lot of noise when you want to study......

nevertheless... the convenience of waking up 3 &1/2 minutes before class and still making it in time... sounds really really tempting...

I interviewed on Oct 24 and haven't heard anything yet (it's almost 4 weeks), should I call the admission? What do you guys think?

What I heard from UOP is that you will know straight away through email about your acceptance if you get in... so if you call.. they won't have an answer for you just yet... just be a little bit more patient... you'd probably hear at least by friday.. if not next monday ...
 
Ya UOP was my first choice and I'm so excited to have been accepted. Going to call and write all the other schools I applied to and withdraw my application. To anyone looking at living off campus, I am looking at getting a house around campus and then finding a roommate or too. Anyone planning on renting off campus?

I wouldn't call and ask. They said they won't give out any acceptance information online. I interviewed at the first interview, and just heard from them a week ago today. I'd just be patient and wait. And fyi, anyone who received the great email, I spoke with an admissions counselor today and she said they expect to send out the packets the first week of december!

i'll be the first to say that today i received a deferral letter after being interviewed with the first batch. they're going to hold my application and review it again next spring. it was dated november 17th, but hopefully none of you guys get this letter and instead an email! 🙂

hopefully i can join the rest of you in the spring, until then good luck to those who are waiting to interview and those who are also waiting to hear back after the interview :luck:

I wouldn't worry too much. I spoke with Veronica Semler and she said that most applicants are deferred and then they start making most of the decisions when the interview process ends around march. I know the waiting sucks, but it's all worth it to do something you love. Good luck!!
 
Anyone from the first interview day not hear anything yet. I am just wondering why i haven't received my deferral letter yet as I did not get an acceptance.
 
I interviewed on the 24th and got the dreaded deferral letter as well. 👎
 
I also interviewed on the 17th and got the deferral letter this week 🙁 More waiting from UOP and other schools!! Good luck to everyone who hasn't heard back yet!!
 
Acceptance packet has arrived...I need to look through everything, sign the papers, log into UOP's site and confirm my acceptance, and send off the check. The deposit is $575. You also need to let them know if you're interested in on-campus housing and there's some other stuff to do if you are...but I'm definitely going to live off campus if I attend. 🙂
 
Out of curiosity, how many students got accepted on the first batch of interviews?

I guess with other interviews, he (sorry if your a girl) feels confident he'll get in somewhere else and the 2000 dollar deposit wasn't worth it and he didn't really want to go to Touro. I would have paid for the peace of mind, but my application isn't exactly stellar.
 
You can get defferred even after being offered an interview? Is that the same thing as being waitlisted?
 
Yeah, I declined Touro for pretty much what YiYaoYue said. As everyone will tell you, during an interview day you will be assessing the school just as much as they are you. The opinion of others will be different, but I left with a very negative impression of Touro after visiting. My stats are above average, and I feel I did well enough at other schools that I am willing to keep my $2k and risk waiting for elsewhere. It may seem bleek after getting 2 hold letters, but I'm confident I'll find a trickle of light at the end of the tunnel. :laugh:

@ PharmDee09: Yeah, being deferred after interview means they want to see how the other interviewees do before they make their final decision on you. At the end you'll find out if you're accepted, waitlisted, or denied.

I respect your decision and good luck to you.

Considering how competitive pharmacy school is, I would have never thought of taking that risk of turning down Touro, especially if I've been waitlisted twice.

What if, just what if, you don't get accepted anywhere else?

Agreed. 2000 dollars is a small price to pay to avoid sitting at home for an entire year while having to re-apply and do this entire process over again. Plus the $2000, should you chose to attend, ends up going toward your tuition anyhow. Touro will be accredited this May, so next year the competition will most likely become much more fierce. But then again, when you know what you want, you know what you want.
 
@ calisloca: No two candidates will view the same program identically. Some will love the program at Touro, while others will not. I vehemently fall into the latter. Yes, $2k is a small price to ensure being in a program next year, but I cannot see myself being happy there. From my understanding you paid the deposit, and I wish you the best of luck in their program regardless.

@ FinestDrug: Being on hold is different than being waitlisted, albeit with the same amount of anxiety. Also, I was accepted before I had gotten my holds on the other two schools but, nonetheless, would have declined had I known beforehand. And hopefully I'll prove you wrong. 😉

Is anyone interviewing in january? Seems like the majority of spots will be taken up by january as UOP is so popular...
 
I submitted everything by 9/1/08 but I have bad luck that it turns out my file hasn't completed just because they missed my Boston Reed College transcript for my pharm tech. Is there any one last year got accepted in tier 3?
