Should I update a school that I have an interview coming up or should I wait in case I get waitlisted?

Um, I wouldn't ever have told a school that you are interviewing somewhere else. They know that you are interviewing already, and if you go out of your way to let them know that, they may think that you are not interested, or at least confuse them. If you want to get into a certain program, I suggest you send a follow up letter saying that you intend to go to their school as they are your number one choice for these reasons: have a short precise and concise statement about the program, the people, the patient population, and or the location that would make you go there and why you are perfect for the program. I don't really know effective this is, but I got into the schools I was waitlisted for after I did this. And don't worry if you get waitlisted, have hope, cuz most of my friends and I were waitlisted before we eventually got in. Of course there are your friends who get into UMich, Hopkins, Harvard, etc in September a day after their interview, but a good number of us got in on the waitlist. Good luck.

I think you misinterpreted with the OP was asking. He wants to know if it is okay to send an update letter to a school that he will be interviewing at in the future, or if he should wait until after the school has made a decision on his file post-interview.

OP: I would wait until after your interview. That way, you will have some "new" information to spring on the school. Also, it will force the school to look at your file again, should you get waitlisted. Good luck! :luck:

Thank you UCLAstudent. Sorry for the confusion. I was thinking the same thing but I started wondering if giving them the additional information would lead me to an acceptance right away. Anyone else have any suggestions?

Definitely wait until after your interview to send them an update letter. Plus, if you wait, you can also say how much you enjoyed visiting the school and how after seeing the school you think you're a great fit.

Sorry one more thing. Should I update right after the interview or wait until a decision has been made?

Wait until a decision has been made.
