Hiya,

So I was wondering if anyone has experience w/ this, and if you do, please reply. I am submitting secondaries w/ my Apr. score, which is kinda low. I have Aug scores coming in, and I want to make sure that all the schools hold consideration until they get those latter scores. For the schools who don't have you mark whether you've taken the Aug. test, do you send them a letter saying please consider these scores before throwing me out, kinda thing?! Let me know. Thanks 🙂

It might not help at all schools, but I dont see how it could hurt. Shows you are really interested and concerned. I would do it. Good luck!

Thanks. I guess the bigger question is will they wait for the second set of scores, or just reject you right away? Anyone know?

Did you mark that you were taking the August MCAT on your AMCAS application? If you did, I think most schools put you on hold until those scores come in. I see you're particularly interested in Wake Forest. Last year I took the August MCAT and got an email from them shortly after I submitted my AMCAS app saying they received my application and would contact me when further information was required. Towards the end of October, I received an email inviting me to fill out their secondary. After that, I didn't hear from them again until January when I called to ask what my status was and they told me I had received an interview invitation. Hope that helps.

Yes, I did mark on the AMCAS abt. the August test. Your experience with Wake Forest is hopeful, that's what I hope they'll do for me if they don't like my Apr. score. Thanks for letting me know 🙂

Depending on how high/low your current MCAT scores, the medical schools will more than likely wait until they receive your August scores before making a decision as to whether to send you a secondary or grant you an interview. However, some schools that screen will go ahead and send you a secondary, although most will wait, and some schools will jump the gun and reject you outright. I have taken the August 2004 MCAT, and of the schools that I designated on AMCAS that pre-screen for secondaries, four have sent me their application, two have rejected me (non-resident state schools), and I am on hold at eight, pending my new scores. Of the non-screening schools, I would say that the majority will wait for your August scores before reviewing your completed application. It is my belief that checking the August MCAT box on AMCAS automatically puts you in a stack of applications that aren't reviewed until scores become available in mid-October. Penn State in particular asks you if you prefer that they review your application before or after the new scores come in (although they also say that new MCAT scores will not be considered if you want them to review your app before the scores become available).

last year, i took the april mcat and then also decided to retake in august. i ended up getting an interview before my august scores were out. otherwise, schools waited until the august scores were in. i did not get rejected from any of the 14 schools i applied to until after the scores from august were released. i don't think you need to send a letter. they already know you took the test if you marked "yes" on amcas.

I appreciate the feedback, thanks! I just hope taking the Aug. test won't be a disadvantage, but we'll see. 🙂
