I was accepted to UPenn and Touro.

Touro
i will be able to commute to Touro. Visited the school and spoke to many current students, D1 to D3. They unanimously liked the school, professors, and classmate. Said the school really positioned students to succeed and has an overall supportive learning environment. they got into practice from D1 Level. Doubling of the class size was not impactful as they two cohorts came on alternative days.

UPenn
I interviewed virtually and schedule a visit. They offer 30 mins visits. So, I don’t know if I get the time to see much or speak to many students. I did read on blogs that the school environment is stressful and students compete against each other. Money wise, UPenn will be approx 30k a year more expensive.

please help me choose.

cheaper

Didn't Touro and Penn offer you a chance to talk with student ambassadors when you interviewed? Didn't those students give you their contact info? It sounds like Touro did a better marketing job, and it's also cheaper.

Are you recommending touro over penn because of price mainly, I am in the same situation except Temple vs Penn, would love to hear your input <3

Could you last your own X vs Y with your pros and cons? Hard to do that off another discussion. Is there a link?
Sorry Mr Smile,

For me it all boils down to cost and weather or not that justifies going to penn.I am not sure if I wanna specialize, My fear is that I chose to go to penn, become a general dentist , and end up with 104K more in debt. I want to be able to choose a specialty out of passion not because of the pressure of debt. But if it is worth the extra money than so be it.

Temple Pros:
  1. Cheaper it is 76K a year vs 102 k for Penn (tuition + dental instrument fee (the largest fees for both schools)
  2. I am familiar with the area and have many ties to the school
  3. Better clinical experience from what ive heard
Penn Pros
  1. I am not 100% sure if I want to specialize, maybe peds, ortho or perio, but if I do, maybe going to penn will make it easier (I was hoping to get more thoughts on this)
  2. Ivy league resources, connections and networks (Again, not really sure if this is really a thing that is worth it)
  3. I could get a 5% subsidized health professions loan, penn said loans last year typically were from 10-30k but can be more based on need, I come from a lower middle class family so im expecting 20+k
I have no cons for either school except for Penn being more expensive

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond

Why would it be easier to specialize if you go to UPenn? Do they teach special things that only fancy schools have access to? Here’s a hint: They don’t. You can specialize from any school. It depends on the student, not the name of their school.

I’ve heard that your future DSO employers pay Ivy League grads a 10% premium. Maybe that’s just an urban legend. Seriously though, no one cares about the name of your school. This isn’t business school. Honestly, 90% of Average Joes couldn’t tell you the difference between UPenn and Penn State.
