USC Class of 2013

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
If you want to park in meter parking bring extra quarters and fill it up for like 4hrs(just in case).

That's a long time usually I can only fill it up for like 3 hours. GOTIGERS!

Interviewing candidates..nice job with your interviews today..it was a pleasure talking with some of you. Being able to carry a conversation is a good sign and most of you seemed comfortable enough to do just that! Good luck with your outcomes, just expect to wait a couple months as the process does take some time. :xf:

Nope, no campus tour. I was surprised and actually disappointed. I wanted a tour! Oh well. It may be trivial to some people, but that slightly gave me a bad impression. Unless that one building was all there was to it? Anyway, good luck on Saturday everyone. I'll be doing the same thing at Western while you're all at SC!

Yeah, they do tours during the school year, but not on interview days. I think it's because they already have people there to do interviews, ice breakers in the lobby, and people for follow-up so that doing a tour (which they normally do in small groups) would require too many people for that long, that early on a Saturday. Normally they do them on a Friday 3 times/semester. It's not so bad for locals, but you'd have to work it in your schedule if your coming in from out of town. I do like how Western incorporated the tour in their interview though.

USC should give a tour during the interview. I am sure there are a bunch of 1st level students who are willing to help. I remember western, UCSD and UCSF all give a tour during the interview.

Thank you!! I believe I did well on my interview, but I can never tell what the other person is thinking. Hopefully, they liked me. 1st year students were extremely friendly! USC is a great school! I hope I get accepted!:xf:

Where do the the pharmacy students stay? on campus? off? where is the cheapest place to stay?

your help is much appreciated, as always. 😀

The dorm is ~$550 w/a roomie(1styears only)

South Pasadena/Alhambra (3-5 back roads to campus) ~10mins

Old Town Pas. ($$$) 15mins

Pasadena/Glendale about 20mins

Maybe others can chime in but that is all I know.

I would not recommend living in the direct surrounding areas. If you don't mind waiting a list should come out of people wanting roomies.

Just for a heads up a lot of off campus events are usually w/in a 15-20min radius of campus (if you plan on being involved).

I've heard a lot about parkside apts? how close are those to the school? Also, will I get something in the mail regarding housing/scholarships.. Has anyone received anything yet, for those who are accepted into the school?

Thank you.

I think i did really well during my interview. Hopefully I can get in 🙂

Absolutely loved interview at USC, and cannot wait to hear back in a few short weeks! Best of luck to you all!

I guess they should start sending out invites for the February 21 interview next week? I sent in my updated transcripts almost 2 weeks ago (should boost my GPA), so hopefully they'll consider me. USC is also one of my top choices (besides Western). Sorry, I know I have made posts noting some schools as my top choices. At this rate, all schools are my top choices.

I think USC is my top choice in school since i do not want to leave souther california but at this rate i feel like im not going to get into a school anywhere in California :-(
:xf::xf::xf:

Hopefully i will hear from them soon. Only 2 more days! :xf::xf:

I haven't received any info regarding housing yet from USC. I just got an updated version of my lack letter in an email yesterday. I hope they send something because I'm going to need all the help I can get...I'm coming from NY!

You mean 2 more days until they start sending out invites? Did you call them and ask?

yeah i'm seriously wondering when they send these. my coworker got invited to USC interview in january, and that was maybe dec 18th. that's about a month in advance...

that means that we're already a week late compared to the last round. perhaps we all missed it? =T or maybe USC is waiting for academic updates. i just got an e-mail from pharmCAS saying they completed my academic update and will send out stuff to schools next week. but USC should have received my transcript directly, so... hm.

I just got an interview invite today, but it's on the same day as Western's. Both schools are my top choices, and it's hard for me to pick which one I want more. Does anyone if you can move USC's interview invitation. Their email made it sound like I need to make a decision pronto before they give up my spot, and I don't want that to happen. 🙁

What are the times?

Anyone looking for a roomie yet? I am a female... PM me your lifestyle, that is, drink, smoke, bf, etc...

Thanks... =) 😍

so far you are the only lucky one with feb invite to interview! congratulations and good luck

To those that interviewed, where did you guys stay? I received an email giving me hotel and traveling information for my interview date. They mentioned the Best Western Markland Hotel. Did anyone stay here? How did you like it. I don't need anything fancy, but I would like a clean safe place to stay in. TIA! 🙂

Does USC send out interview invites all at once in a big batch or does it span over a week? I am wondering if I should just give up hope since I have not heard anything for the Feb. 21 date.

I believe they just started to send out invites. I got mine yesterday, and someone got theirs today. Don't give up just yet. Keep checking your email! 🙂

does anyone know about the financial aide deadlines? it looks like the information/forms on the website are from last year 😕

blah i still have not heard anything USC this is so discouraging. arent we supposed to get another email saying what courses we are missing before we even get an interview? I still havent got that yet either :-(

I stayed there since USC mentioned it's like the closest hotel to them. I liked my stay there. Very clean, nice looking. If you don't have a car (like I did) it was a bit of a walk to restaurants, but if you have a car, that's good. The hotel gives a discount if you tell them you are interviewing at USC.

Good luck to ya! Hopefully we get to be classmates if you get in and decide to go to USC!

Thanks a lot for the info! Looks like this is where I'll be staying, most of the reviews seem pretty good. 🙂

=( I submitted the beginning of september and still haven't heard back...

darn..so I should've gotten something in the mail?

Only current students receive the mailing. New students are left to fend for themselves and look at the financial aid website.

Here's what I got in the mail:
--------------------------------------------------
March 2, 2009

-FAFSA due
Complete the 2009-20010 FAFSA online at www.fafsa.ed.gov and submit it to the federal processor by midnight EST on March 2. Use your best estimates of your 2008 income. USC's federal code is 001328.

-USC supplemental due
A supplemental form must be faxed to the USC financial aid office by the March 2 deadline.

Graduate students who wish to be considered for only the Federal Stafford and/or Graduate PLUS loands need not meet these deadlines but should submit their FAFSA and Supplemental Form at least 60 days prior to the start of the acaemic year.
-------------------------------------------
As an FYI, I submitted way past the deadline last year (as I didn't even get my interview invite until after the deadline) and I still got enough loans to pay tuition and living. I may have missed out on getting some low-interest loans or something... I'm not really sure. I just know I got enough without having to take out a private loan.

I had to wait for the March interview myself so yeah, I know it can be discouraging. Don't lose hope yet.

About financial aid, I know we have to fill it out by march 2, but what about schools that we haven't been accepted to yet. Since the USC financial supplemental forms are also due March 2, should we fill out the form even if we haven't been accepted to the school? Or will there be different financial aid deadlines for those who get accepted into the program after March 2?

i believe same as before, send transcripts directly to USC. i did both: send to USC and pharmCAS w/ academic update. so i guess USC doesn't really need to wait that long for the academic update... looks like people are getting invited... good luck to the interviewees!

Fill them out for USC also. It doesn't really take much more time, and they don't give you a different deadline.

Ok, this might be a dumb question but did anyone bring their luggage to the interview and was able to put it somewhere? I'm trying to only stay at my hotel for 1 night and check out the day of the interview. My friend has a hotel-like room available at his apartment complex for me to stay at, but I won't be able to get to it until after the interview, so I wouldn't have anywhere to leave my stuff. Just curious. If not, I can probably figure something out. 😛

Put it in the trunk of your rental car.

I noticed that the FA forms they have posted on their website are for the year 2007.... Shouldn't it be for 2008?

Has anyone else gotten an interview invite for Feb. 21??

I have not heard anything.

CafeMed: have you heard anything?

I brought my luggage to the interview and the staff was very helpful in showing me where to keep it safe. They kept my luggage in the admissions office in someone's room which was locked. I'm sure they will be onsite to help people with luggage, so don't worry.

Nope, nothing. I'm hoping they are still sending out invites for Feb. 21. Otherwise, only 1 more date left. This year has been extremely disappointing for me. 🙁
