USC Class of 2013

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
did he say anything about those on AC from the Nov interview by any chance?

I did not ask about anything related to those on the AC from the Nov interview, so no he didn't say anything. But according to some people on SDN, they are hearing back even though they are on AC.

HOLY CRAAAAAAAP! Congratulations nmnguyen!!!! So they didn't forget about us AC people. haha Yeah, I don't feel like my interview went that great and I also interviewed with a relatively low gpa.

Btw, nmnguyen, where did you receive your mail? Norcal, socal, out of state, etc.

3.5 is a pretty low threshold to just let in. I'd be severely disappointed to know that's all it took. Not to say anything about students under AC but I would like my acceptance and application process to mean something. I can understand that high gpa's may have relatively better resumes but to let all in who pass the "proficiency in communications" test sucks.

3.5 is low??

I only have a 3.6 overall GPA and I consider myself to be an excellent student.

I think if a student has at least a 3.5 overall GPA, and a higher major/science GPA, and a higher last 2 years GPA...that student is pretty much academically qualified for most of the pharmacy programs out there.

I agree with Dysic.

If any school just lined up the highest GPAs and accepted everyone in the top xx%, they would potentially miss out on "better" students on a larger scale (ECs, communication skills, life experiences, etc.). I personally would not want to attend a school with a static student body which consisted of 'bookworms' who ONLY studied and received 3.9s (not saying that high grades reflect on lack of other abilities/ECs but a well balanced student would be preferred). In addition, there are those who are making career changes or have had other experiences with GPAs that don't look stellar on paper but are great students (received low grades as an undergrad years ago - did very well on pre-reqs afterward). Judging someone by just their GPA is like judging someone's success in life solely by the type of car they drive.

A career in pharmacy requires interaction with people , and the interview is one way to assess one's communication abilities. The process is not perfect, but I wouldn't necessarily say its completely unfair (Although it seems like GPA either ways more heavily today or more students have higher GPAs).

Still no word yet...

Norcal.

I believe the people with higher GPAs usually get accepted sooner but that has a tremendous impact on their application (IMO).

The waiting game isn't fun but it is well worth it.

I think USC considers other factors besides GPA because I have high GPA but haven't received acceptance letter yet. Waiting is killing me.

I am confused. someone said the letters won't send out until the end of this week. and then someone said they sent out all the letters last friday 2/13...

If you don't received anything like AC or Acceptance, does it mean they reject you?

Did Nov interviewees didn't receive anything?

I too am confused. I guess you could always call and ask yourself, but the fact is we all still have to wait until it actually comes in our mailboxes. I'd call to follow up after next week if you haven't heard a status update by then. Good luck!

I have a few questions (if they are already answered you can just tell me the post number and I will read on from there). My first question is if anyone has any idea what percentage of the seats have been filled so far? Also, the PharmCAS page for the school indicates that the school only accepted 12 out of state students last semester, is that correct? USC is a private school so it does not have a preference for California residents, right? Finally, does anyone know the last interview date? I received an email saying that I was on their schedule for an interview but I forgot to send my fall transcripts directly to them (forgot they were picky like that, will do tomorrow). Just seeing if the travel would be wise this late in the process.

Thanks for all of the help everyone!

Edit: Looked around and found the last interview to be March 21st. So they only hold 4 interview sessions and interview almost 500 people in all? Yikes, that's a lot of people per session.

It is true that they don't accept too many out of staters, but it is because of their application pool not because of any preference. Most students that apply are from CA. I checked into this when I applied. I am from out of state and now go to USC. I don't feel that I was treated any differently.

I just received a lack letter updated. Called Jim and he said the letter would be mailed on Mon.

I haven't heard anything yet!... I'm thinking of calling them today before the weekend.

nm..

"When will I be notified of my admission status?
All applicants will be notified by mail four to five weeks after the interview date. Status updates will be mailed to you as soon as decisions are made. We do not release status information over the telephone."

What letter would be mailed on Monday? lack letter? thanks...

For people who called, did they sent out all the acceptance letters last week?

The letter about the result of my interview on 1/24. Because I just sent them my transcript about my class taken in Winter intersession to finish my pre.req. So they send me my lack letter today. I completely finish their requirement. Then I called Jim, and ask if they send all letter out about interview 1/24 yet? He checked and said to me next Monday. I'm sooo worried. If USC accept me, I will decline all other interview.

It's good that you done all their requirment. I heard that they accept people who done their requirment. Best of Luck!!!

when did you receive this email about ur interview?

this is odd, how come i got the letter much earlier than everyone?

when did you receive this email about ur interview?

I got the email last Thursday. It wasn't an official invite, but he said they wouldn't send me an official invite because they thought that I still had 10 prereqs missing. They should get my transcript sometime this week coming up, and then I will see if I actually get an interview.

is this an invite for march 21st?

Haven't heard anything at all this week about the 1/24 interview, so I'm starting to believe maybe letters hadn't been sent out until yesterday or so. More waiting! Yay! Maybe if I'll stop checking the mailbox every day it'll come.

I believe letters are coming any day now for most people. ("hold" or "acceptance" letters)

My roommate just got his letter, and unfortunately it was a "hold" letter. 🙁

Hey, I was wondering if anyone knows if we had to DIRECTLY send USC our transcripts once fall quarter (the quarter/semester that just finished) grades were posted from our current university? I see a bunch of people talking about sending in their transcripts again, but I was just kind of confused since I have not received any letter/email regarding to re-send my transcripts once the fall quarter grades were posted. Please let me know if anyone knows! Thanks!

Yes, you should send your transcripts ASAP after each closing term. It helps your application, especially if you completed some prereqs during that term. (They said this at the interview)

have they notified people about an interview for March 21st?

I guess they have decided who to send out the invites to already and they may send it out by next week or the first week of March.

Well, I think this is going to be true for most people, but I spoke with many different admissions people at USC, each gave me different answers. But now I got an official answer, and I was placed on active consideration...🙁 I spoke with an admissions representative and they said as far as the mail goes, they sent out letters immediately to the stronger applicants (so I am guessing acceptances first) then to the weaker applicants. Oh well, I am praying that I will get into UCSF or get pulled off the AC list. Good luck to the rest of ya'll.

Oh great, I didn't get anything this week! Now I'm not so excited to check my mail anymore.

So I'm guessing they're done taking people from the November AC list then too? Ugh 😡

nmnguyen, in your acceptance did it say anything about how many people were taken from the list?

I honestly think that if USC had sent out acceptance letters, we would be hearing from many more people than the random 2 or 3 that have posted in the past week. It doesn't fit the pattern of ANY previous round of interviews.

Just like Jim Granderson and various folks in admissions have said...letters will be mailed out on Monday.

Don't start worrying until it's time to worry.

I talked with Xin at interviews today and she said they'd probably email people next week for March interviews.

This is obviously for a friend... but is there only one interview day in March? And If I understand this correctly this is the last interview date right?

yup...last interview day is March 21st.

they only have 4 interview sessions

I know a few people who have gotten in and they don't post on SDN forums.

I got my white envolope today Active consideration damn very upset. It says out of 100 applicants interviewed 46 have been offered admission for class of fall 2009 and 54 applicants have been placed in an "active consideration" but no on ehas been denied.

I do feel you...
I have a feeling that I am one of the 54....🙁🙁🙁🙁🙁

I'm so scaredddddddddddddd.

oh man, that's how I felt back in December. After so much waiting I'm kinda numb to it now  But Meester Owalie is right. I'm going to stop freaking out now. :xf:

hey all, just had my interview yesterday, which i think went well except for the the writing sample. i think i did bad 🙁. does anyone here know how heavily weighted the writing sample of the interview is when making a decision?
