I think someone called and asked and they said all letters are sent out in the same batch. There mail system is sorta whack though and it took like 12 days or something from the day they said they mailed it to the day it was actually postmarked.

I got put on the alternate list on Christmas eve. I don't know what to do right now since i've been waitlisted at all the schools I have interviewed at so far. They probably just don't like me. Anywayz, my letter was dated the 17th instead of the 14th like the accepted applicants. So I guess waitlisted applicants are notified a little bit later than the accepted applicants. I am crushed!! I probably need to retake my MCAT and apply next year then.

A lot of people get off the waitlist. give it some time, don't be so down.

I'm really sorry to hear that. Good luck to you and don't lose hope! As the above poster said, many are taken off waiting lists. One friend of mine was on 3 waiting lists in June and he got off of one and was let in. Also, my student host at USC came off the wait list. Good luck!

I called and heard that my letter was sent on Dec. 6. I then looked through the list and saw both alternate lists and acceptances were sent on that day. So I drew the conclusion that both were sent together. I guess we shall see in time. A lot of time.... Still no letter for me.

Waitlist here as well, letter postmarked 12/19, when I called a week ago they said the decision was made on 12/3. CoOlxtOny and others, any ideas as to when the waitlist could move? Are we looking at late spring when all interviews are over, or will we be reconsidered at each meeting of the ad com? Good luck to all still waiting to hear!

to answer a question from the last page...yes i did interview at NYMC in November.

i also did finally receive my crushing blow of a letter from USC telling me that after 8 weeks of waiting...i got wait listed. sounds like none of the locals had the same bad luck. congrats guys.

i pretty much feel like a complete failure at this point....and have no desire to continue interviewing and feeling belittled at every step of the way when i've accomplished so much.
maybe ill just be a stripper instead

I hear you spilledmilk, being waitlisted is a complete downer, got my letter a few days after christmas. Do any of the waitlisters know anything about how we are evaluated at this point and / or when we could expect movement? I know at a few schools it seems they take people off the list right away, or after a few weeks? I'm hoping that's a possibility with USC. Sorry, I'm asking all these questions without having called the the admissions office, plan to give them a ring monday, I'll let you all know what they say.

all they told me when i asked about it was that the list is unranked (which we already knew) and that they do completely reevaluate each file on the list.

i think its not completely hopeless to get off a wait list...there seem to be a few lucky people each year that do. im totally finished getting my hopes up though. 🙂

So, I know that the way the admissions works at USC is that 5 committee members (including one med student) are given your file and they vote on it. If the majority vote is acceptance (like 3-2, 4-1, 5-0) then your file goes to Dr. Quinn and she decides to officially accept like 90-95% of those people who have already been "accepted". The other remaining people are put on the wait list, and there is a lot of movement. I don't know if this is the only wait list they have because I'm not sure if the 5 members on your committee decide to wait list anyone at all. But at least this gives a little more insight into the process. (This is all something that a Keck med student (who does admissions stuff) told me) GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!!

BXP, my waitlist letter had Dr. Quinn's name and signature at the bottom if that is what you mean, but it looks like it could be a printed signature, not necessarily signed in pen ink.

Awe thank you! I'm a total type A personality stressing-out person, so that helps me 🙂

I got kind of nervous because it said both interviewers knew nothing about you 😳 I haven't done an interview yet, so I'm prone to nervousness right now.

I interviewed in the first half of Nov. and my decision letter was dated Dec. 6th. I would suggest you call the office. I called after the 6 weeks had passed and they were able to tell me that a decision was made and my letter was on the way. When I never received that letter, they remailed it. Their mailing system is ridiculously slow. Good luck!

On the waitlist front, after calling admissions my impression was that we won't be considered again until much later in the spring, after all the interviews are complete. It was pretty hard to get any concrete information out of them though, any other waitlisters have any thoughts? Also, do you guys think that the waitlist letters are all the same, or could there be hints in there as to how competitive of a candidate you are?

I was accepted on Wednesday Jan 16 and my ex-girlfriend was also accepted the same day. Our letters were sent out that Monday. Good luck!

i had about a 5 week wait.....but that included the holiday season. they told us to wait 4-6 weeks.

anyone tried to log into mymedweb.usc but can't? They gave you a username and pw in the interview packet so you can check out lecture notes and stuff like that online.
