Probably been discussed before, but can't find a recent thread....

I'm just curious about what scores people were getting on USMLE World, and then how you ended up doing on Step 2.

All you have to do is post two numbers...... 🙂

Thanks folks, and good luck with everything!!

Took Step 2 back in early August and got scores 3 weeks later..

Step 1 : 223/94%
Step 2: 251/99% :soexcited:

So happy! I used Secrets and First Aid and USMLE World questions..

Do you know if that will include those taking the exam tomorrow, on 9/25 (i.e. me)?
Very unlikely to impossible. The October 6th release date was mentioned for exams up to "mid-September." You'll likely have yours October 20th. Hope you hear good things....

So like most of us, I'm "calmly" 🙂laugh🙂 waiting for my step 2 ck score on the 6th (took exam aug 26th).

Was looking on ERAS's track documents, and for a lot of programs I'm finding this:

USMLE Transcript 09-12-2010 10:51 pm 09-13-2010 08:26 am
USMLE Transcript 09-29-2010 01:51 am Replaced by newer file before retrieved
USMLE Transcript 09-29-2010 04:50 am 09-29-2010 08:29 am

For the past number of weeks, it only had my original USMLE transcript, with just a Step 1 score. I checked OASIS and no scores had been released yet.

Maybe its notice of impending scores? Anyone else noticed this?

Also to note is I ticked "yes" to automatically resubmit my USMLE transcripts to programs

as being written so many times, the question are LONG!!!
had a lot of Immunology questions, even more Rheumatology (to much!), and also Respiratory was heavily questioned...
Not as much as statistics as ppl prepared me to, and most of it was straight forward.
about 5 multimedia q's, simple cardiac auscultation.

I'm an IMG, studied for 2 months, mostly UW, some Kaplan lectures, and MTB.
Had FA but it's simply not good...
UW mixed, timed, finished the Q-bank with 67%
NBME 2, 5 weeks before D-day: 224 (Palpitations & Insomnia for a week)
UWSA, 3 weeks before D-day: 245 (a bit better)
NBME 4, 5 days before D-day: 236 (had a bad day so felt more or less ok)

Well wasn't on the top of my game today, did a lot of mistakes and wasn't concentrated , but nothing to do now expect wait for Oct. 6th

good luck to everybody with the Match!

231/99, a bit disappointed, really had a bad day...

Sounds like a few people who took it about 3 weeks ago are getting scores today without a delay (happened a few weeks ago too, apparently some sites aren't delayed).

I don't think that means we are all getting them though. I took my 8/18 and no sign of an email or changes in ERAS.

Looks like 1 more week for those of us who were already delayed.

I took my exam on 8/16 and got my score today. I don't understand how they are doing this but I am so glad I finally got mine back and sorry for those who are having to wait another week.

Haha. Well congrats. Very strange indeed.

EDIT: Nevermind. No email but I just went on the website and my score was there. Not sure why I didn't get the email notifying me.

Took the test last wednesday. Will post my scores as soon as I get them but I wanted to put my impressions down before I forget...

Test was fine. I forgot how hard it was to sit down for 8 hours taking a test. Some questions were a little out there but for the most part it was reasonable.

The biggest thing is I was shocked at how long the questions were. WAYYY longer than UW. Almost never finished with time to review my answers and when I did blocks on UW I was usually done in 40-45 min.

Studied for 4 weeks. Did all of UWorld once, didn't get around to repeating any. Reviewed First Aid Step 2 and annotated facts from UWorld. Its what I did for step 1 so I didn't want to change too much.

UWorld: 64% (all random, timed, no repeats - averaging 70-75% in the end)
UWorld Simulated Exam 5 days prior: 224
Step 1: 228

All I'm hoping for is a 230. Higher would be nice but I'm not doing anything super competitive. I'm just glad to be done.

Got my score back today. 241/99. Definitely happy about it.

Got my score today: 236/99

UWorld by subject: 60% overall

UWSA: 215 (1 week out)
NBME 2 & 4: 239 & 241 (also 1 week out)

Step 1: 227/95

Very happy

I took my exam on 8/27

All I did was World and read through Secrets once

Received my score today

252/99

Step 1: 227/95

Needless to say I am in shock

Got score today.
Took Step 2 8/26 - 250/99
NBME Form 2 8/18 - 241
NBME Form 3 7/30 - 217

Officially started studying on 7/31. Read through Step 2 Secrets in about 4 days(never touched it again after that). Then I just did UWorld questions. I did each question block and then read through every word of every explanation while highlighting stuff I didn't know(took about 3hrs for each block). I purchased UWorld to use during my 3rd year and answered all but the questions for internal med(~1500). I just read the explanations for the questions I had already done. In reality, I probably studied for 3 weeks even though I allotted myself a month. I had to do my eras application and took some random days off in between.

Two points from my experience:
1)It doesn't matter if you worked on UWorld during the year. But then again, I didn't do the medicine questions which is the bulk of UWorld. I could've reset the qbank but I didn't want to lose my highlighting.
2)I don't think Secrets helped at all. The info was quite basic and not nearly detailed enough if you want to do well on the exam.

Took mine on 9/7/10. This was my prep:

UW 1.5x (1x throughout third year, 0.5x two weeks prior to exam)
First Aid Step 2 CK x1

NBME shelves: med:90, Peds: 95, Surg: 86, Fam: 81, Ob: 80, Psych: 68 (WTF?, bubbling problem I think)
CCSE on 7/5/10: 250

UWSA 9 days prior - 245
NBME form 2, 8 days prior - 261

Step 1 - 261

Step 2 real deal - 257

I'm okay with that score considering I went down. I'm gonna release it. All in all, practice tests correlate well with both Step 1 and Step 2. I'm a huge proponent. Probably would have taken the thing earlier and closer to finishing 3rd year and risked going down. I think I would have done better.

Score today: 254/99
Up 20+ from Step I
UWorld 2x (1 during year ~ 60% correct, 1 during 3 weeks study ~72% correct).
Used SUTM, FA, but mostly UWorld.

I am totally psyched. I got my first interview offer for ENT 2 hours after my score was released.

Background:
Shelf scores in 96-97%ile except surgery was 90%ile.
Study:
Took NBME 2 before studying and got a 620/243
1 month of 2-3 question sets/week of USMLERx.
Took the UWorld Self Assessment and got a 239.
2 weeks of 2 question sets/5 hours of study using only UWorld all timed/random.
8 days of solid study, using UWorld with 70% of UWorld finished before the test, scores ranging 59-88% with an average of 73.6%.
Took NBME 3, three days before the exam and got a 680/254
Step 1 score 250
Step 2 score 258 (the average bumped up to 230 btw)

I can't believe this!! ECFMG can't release my scores to me because my university put the wrong STAMP on the verification form they sent them!

All my programs know my scores, but not me!!!

Used this site alot, but never registered. Great source of info for both steps. Received scores today.

Step 2 - 289/99

Primarily used kaplan books and Uworld. I felt that First Aid was completely inadequate, superficial, and poorly organized for Step 2. Big let down from Step 1. Master the Boards for Step 3 was useful albeit not critical to have. Fischer's Step 2 book is due out in Nov or Dec. and should be very worthwhile.

My test had a significant amount of OB. Also, the usual handful of questions out of left field.

Just going to post my experience to help anyone else out that might read this:
step I: 236/99
USMLE world: had a month off put in 2-5 hours a day most days of the week...VERY light studying. Probably took close to a week off in there with no studying. 68% 1x through random timed
UWSA: 248, 1 week prior
Step II: 258/99

I also used step up to medicine a little bit just because I used it during my medicine month and was familiar with it. Only used this on a few days of study. Mainly it was UW and studying during third year.

I hope this helps.

Congrats, that's the highest score I ever seen. Could you tell us please for how long have you been studying for, and how many hours a day? How was your shelf scores by the way?

Thanks for sharing and good luck in the match.

Thanks! I studied for about 8 weeks. Four weeks was during a rotation and the other four was a vacation month. 8-10 hour days during the off month although I'm a very distracted studier and I would say someone with better focus than I could probably cover an equal amount of material in half the time. I scored 99 on all of the shelf exams.

USMLE 1 255
Comlex 1 656

NBME practice tests 248, 250

I am just wondering, do the osteopathic students have to pass USMLE and COMLEX to enter into residecy. I am allopathic that is why I am asking.

Thanks

I thought the COMLEX substitutes for the USMLE? But that was mostly speculation. Also interested in the answer.

You must be a genius/awesome test taker. Congrats

They take the COMPLEX as their osteopathic school and residency requirement. But lots of DOs apply for Allopathic residencies which require USMLE.

I did get it back today. I took the test 8/23. (Updated my other post as well)

Oh haha I didn't realize there were so many updates on this page already. I took mine on 9/15 so I guess I shouldn't expect mine until next Wed at the earliest

Regarding 2 vs 3 digit scores -- the chairman of my home's department in the very competitive field that I am going into told me he doesn't understand the 3 digit scores and only looks at the 2 digit scores. Granted he is old old old school, but the 2 digit isn't totally meaningless to all.

Here is what I know about the 2 digit score. It is the only way to correlate year to year, according to my home institution program director. When the NBME changes their test in any way the two digit score tells you how that person performed compared to other years. The three digit score can change year to year dramatically.

I was pleasantly surprised to see my score back today. I wasn't expecting it until next week. I don't have all the stats in front of me, but here's what I remember...

Step1: 230s
Uworld: 62%
Kaplan qbank: 66%
nbme1: 225ish
Nbme3: 230ish
Got 80% in kaplan's qbook, crush's qbook, and the first few sections of first aid's qbook (though I didn't complete that one)

It all came to a 255 on the actual test. 5 points above my goal.

Took Step II 8/27 got scores back yesterday,

went through UW 1x on random timed overall 65%, also read through about 1/2 of first aid before giving up to focus soley on UW, never took any official full length tests

Step II score: 253, ~20 points higher than Step I, needless to say I was both surprised and happy about the bump up in score 🙂

For you guys that got scores back yesterday, any idea if your updated usmle transcripts have been uploaded yet?

wait, how do you know that?

If you go to track your applications under ERAS and select any program you will see that a new USMLE Transcript (there will be two listed instead of one) was uploaded yesterday and sometimes has and sometimes has not already been uploaded by programs.

A.) Saved all of my (typed) review sheets I made while studying for shelves.

B.) USMLE WORLD: did all (2264) questions my main studying source. I did not re-do all the ones I got wrong because I did not have time. Instead, When I got something wrong I went to my shelf reviews and cut and pasted the sections I needed to brush up on into my final step 2 review sheet.

B.) STEP 2 SECRETS: I would read a section (or a few) and then do the questions in USMLE WORLD after.

C.) Night before the test I reviewed OLD STEP 2 answers to know heavily hit topics: http://www.kaplanmedical.com/pdf_files/S2_Released.pdf

Recommend to know these topics cold:
1.) Medicine – esp. cardio & respiratory and at least for me endo (my worst section)
2.) Cardiology – Listen to the heart murmurs (at least 5 on my exam) & review EKG’s (briefly). I reviewed these the night before the test.
3.) Trauma
4.) Peds topics: gastrointestinal, musculoskeletal, & developmental milestones! Note: vaccines not hit hard, don't waste a lot of time on them, but review them.
5.) Immunology & Genetics ARE ON THE TEST!!! Esp immunodeficiencies… KNOW THEM COLD!
6.) Not much cancer on the test (3-4Q—blood, breast, colon)
7.) OB/Gyne is on the test.

I didn't have it set to automatic but requested it to be updated as soon as I saw my score but it hasn't gone through yet. I felt pretty confident but I figured it was better to be able to hold the score if I wanted just in case.

Could you please explain what dtest o you mean in point C? Is that the free 175 questions on the USMLE pratice test? Cause these answers are similar to the 2010 test, but in different order.

Thanks

I did the same and my resubmitted USMLE transcript just now became available.

Took my test 9/8; it's been said, but yes, i was surprised to get my scores...

CK: 236/99
that's not too impressive on this forum, but considering this...

Step1: 198/81

needless to say I felt very blessed and give God all the credit, which i know is like giving props to water for giving us ice, it's just kind of a given; but still. anyway, my other scores...

World: 64%
NBME3 (2wks preexam): 490/215
NBME4🙁1wk preexam): 530/224

So then the only reason i posted this, is b/c i know there are a lot of ppl that get on here and see these incredible scores, and feel like everybody's doing it; well obviously they're not. G' luck to everybody 👍

When the NBME changes their test in any way the two digit score tells you how that person performed compared to other years. The three digit score can change year to year dramatically.

Thing about the 2 digit score is you can get somewhere in the 220's and still get a 99. Since the mean 3 digit is 230 a lot of people are getting a 99 and for competitive programs a 99 doesn't mean that much.

A 99 is a great score, and totally fine for competitive programs, especially if your step 1 was solid as well. The 2 digit is used to compare scores year to year, etc. People need to cool it on here about "what's a good score." If you're getting interviews (and some are still coming) it is a good score. 🙄

"Stop the insanity"

Took Step 2 a couple months ago, but hadn't gotten around to posting yet.

For Step 1, I did a lot of reading and making charts (FirstAid and Rapid Review), only got through 40-50% of UWorld

Step 1: mid 220s/94

Changed my approach for Step 2. Read a chapter of FirstAid per day during an outpatient rotation, then did immediately a block of questions on that topic. Then during the following month off that I had off for studying, I skimmed FirstAid one more time, but mostly did random blocks of questions, at least 4-5 blocks of questions per day. Got through all of UWorld, getting ~70+% correct.

Step 2: high 250s/99

Hey everyone,

I've got about 15-20 days before I take Step 2 CK, and I'm roughly halfway done with UWorld (I reset it after 3rd year). Odds are I'll get through it with a few days to spare before my test. With the extra time, I definitely planned on skimming through Step 2 Secrets and doing one more NBME, but am wondering what else I should do with the time. I was thinking maybe redoing the USMLE World questions I got wrong, but that might only help me review random minutia...

Any suggestions?
