Probably been discussed before, but can't find a recent thread....

I'm just curious about what scores people were getting on USMLE World, and then how you ended up doing on Step 2.

All you have to do is post two numbers...... 🙂

Thanks folks, and good luck with everything!!

Hey everyone,

I've got about 15-20 days before I take Step 2 CK, and I'm roughly halfway done with UWorld (I reset it after 3rd year). Odds are I'll get through it with a few days to spare before my test. With the extra time, I definitely planned on skimming through Step 2 Secrets and doing one more NBME, but am wondering what else I should do with the time. I was thinking maybe redoing the USMLE World questions I got wrong, but that might only help me review random minutia...

Any suggestions?

finishing 1/2 of uw will keep you pretty busy with <3 weeks to go unless you have nothing to do but the qbank

with the additional time, take a few practice tests: nbmes, the free 137, and the uw self-assessment to build confidence in your knowledge base. honestly i thought anything more than uw and some practice tests was not helpful when I studied

Haha. Well congrats. Very strange indeed.

EDIT: Nevermind. No email but I just went on the website and my score was there. Not sure why I didn't get the email notifying me.

Hey, I hate to ask such a silly question, but can anyone tell me which website has our scores? Thanks.

Once and for all, straight from the nbme website:

Under current procedures, the scores for each administration of a USMLE Step are equated so that a given three-digit score represents essentially the same level of examinee performance for that Step, and this holds true across years. In other words, a score of 200 on one administration of a Step indicates a comparable level of examinee performance as a score of 200 on any other administration of the same Step. This equivalence holds even if the pass-fail standard is changed, which permits comparing performance across time.

It is important also to remember that the two-digit score, also reported for USMLE, is not a percentile and is not fully equated like the three-digit score. The two-digit score is a total test score that is designed to meet the requirements of some state licensing authorities. The two-digit score scale is one on which a 75 is always the minimum passing score. A given two-digit score may represent a different level of performance if the two administrations were subject to different pass/fail standards.

October 6th is almost here!!! Is anyone else counting down the hours? I took my exam 9/14... really hoping to get my score tomorrow.

I'm also dying to know. I took mine 9/20, and am hoping that still counts as the middle of the month. Good luck everybody.

Ive been goin nuts as well in fact I only came to the site today to reassure myself that im not the only one waiting with baited breath like a kid on christmas morn

what time do scores get released? Is it 9 AM EST? I believe that was the case for step 1. Can someone verify?

UW- 75% tutor mode unused
I didnt do any practice exams
Used FA Step 2CK, usmle secrets and crush
studided 4 weeks

267/99

Hi, congrats on your strong performance. When did you take the test? And when did you get your results? Today?

Hey guys I took my exam on 9/18 and I just checked the ecfmg website and the space for CK looks like this

Your Most Recent USMLE Step 2 CK Score
Exam Date:
Score Report Date:

Does anyone else's look blank? My Step 1 and CS both have dates next to them.

Took the exam yesterday. It was relatively straightforward and about what I expected after doing USMLE World except I'd say on average the question stems were slightly longer on the real deal. For whatever reason the thing I remember most was that it seemed like everyone's age ended in a "7" (37, 47, 57, 67, etc) which I thought was kinda weird. I read Step Up to Medicine, all the non-medicine chapters of First Aid, Secrets, and did USMLE world ~1.5x. My overall average after finishing UW once was 75%. I took NBME 2 a week ago from today and got an 800, although I don't feel like my performance yesterday is going to match that haha. Shelf exams throughout 3rd year ranged from 81 to 94. Since I took it yesterday I'm not sure if my score will come out on October 6th but I will update this post when I find out.

274. I'll take it

The exam date and score report date will be updated at the same time that your score will be posted.

Good luck to all those waiting/taking it soon.

Took it in the middle of Sept. Only had 2.5 weeks to study due to various deadlines. Worked during the day, and studied a few hours every night, and most of the day on the weekends. I started with Step Up to Step 2, and FA, but didn't like either after 10 or so pages, so I just stuck with Secrets to Step 2 and UWorld.

Got through about 50-60% of UW: 72%
Read Secrets 1X
Read that Rapid Review and Top 100 Secrets the day before the exam
NBME 2 (beginning of studying): 225
UWSA (half way): 231
NBME 4 (about 5 days left): 248

Real deal: 273/99.

I felt pretty good leaving the test, but definitely didn't expect this.

Thanks so much! I have never looked at the score report screen before getting the e-mail so I kinda freaked out.

Have you heard of that? They are 8 blocks of 50 q each. Looks like Kap.Qbank (specially when it comes to lenght), but an old interface for displaying the questions. I just need to know if anyone did it before as I am looking to have it beside UWorld. Just to increase exposure!

I apologize I wanted to post that as a new thread, but do't know what happened to appear here.

Any comment is appreciated

Thanks

Just wanted to post my scores, since all of these 250-270 scores are not the norm, they are the exceptional. Congrats to those who are so talented.

UW: 61% 1st time through all timed random
--I redid all the wrong questions I got (avg about 65-70% on only those I got wrong prior)
-- my main studying was UW I studied all the questions right and wrong answers which takes a long time to do
NMS step 2 ck question book: not sure of exact % prob around 65-70%
NBME 1 prior to studying 460
NBME 3 2 wks prior to real test: 540

Actual test day 8/16, repot date 10/6: 227/99

One thing I noticed was the questions were so long on the real test. Although the difficulty and content was similar to UW, the question length (even on NBME's) is not representative.

I do have a reading disability, but I did not finish any of the blocks with extra time and was usually clicking on my last answer choice with only seconds to spare. I really needed more time, and rushed so much I was concerned if I passed. So if you are a slow reader, really train yourself and make the time constraints much more stringent when practicing, I say you should do a block of 44 on UW in under 50 minutes so you are not shaken on the real deal.

Thanks for posting Stoky! I took my step 2 CK on 9/20 and have been pretty anxious waiting for the results. Our numbers for Uworld and NBME are similiar, hopefully my results are just as good. Good Luck to you.

taking the test oct 16. got about 59% total on kaplan all random mostly tutored. I started off in the 40s-50s, ended in the 60s. Now doing UW and getting about 75% on average....
Anybody felt that the Kaplan questions were harder than the UW ones?
UW seems a bit shorter, more knee-jerkable than Kaplan's, which always tried to lead me astray in some way or give *REALLY* long questions....

Grilled cheesus! You are a beast 👍👍

Hopefully feeling good gives good scores to mere mortals too

The wait for Step 2 CK (and CS) scores is killing me. 11am tomorrow, hopefully. Took it on 09/23/10

Wouldn't it come out in midnight tonight then if it does?

Took mine on the 26th and hoping I can put all this behind me soon (midnight:xf:) with a review of my experiences. otherwise i'll have to wait till next wednesday👎

From what I have read, your score should be next wed, and they come out at 11am EDT

darn. where did you read that?

my school told me that before sometime in 2009, Step 2 CK scores were released at 12:00 am EST on the nbme website but you wouldnt get the email til the the morning. apparently they don't do that anymore and you should get your grade around 11 am EST

Took test the 24th, score back today.

239 Step one. 3rd yr shelf exams averaged low 70s or so raw scores.

Studied 3 weeks, I only read through Crush once and did all but 60 questions on Uword with a 62% average. Took NBME 4 1.5 weeks before test and got 570 (233).
I felt like the test was way harder than anticipated. Didnt feel like I did well at all, but I had the same feeling after Step one, so I didnt let myself sweat it this time

Step 2 Ck score: 249/99.
Pretty suprised.

Usmle world 61% used as my primary study tool lots of tutor mode. allcompleted.
Actual score : 257/99
step I was 220

Took exam 9/23, results today.

Step 1: 215 🙁
Step 2 CK: 258!!! 😀

Studied for 3 weeks, for about 6 to 9 hours per day.
Started by reading Step 2 Secrets cover to cover.
Read all of FA once (did this in the mornings) with USMLE WORLD questions for the rest of the day. Underlined the things in FA that I didn't know at all and reread the day before the exam along with the Top 100 Secrets.

That might seem overkill to some, but I felt I needed more help because my Medicine, Ob and Surgery shelf were in the low-mid 70s. Psych, FM, and Peds were in mid-80s.

USMLE WORLD- 69%, first time, no repeats, untimed
UWSA (1 week prior): 235

I'm absolutely thrilled!

Took the test on 9/14, and got my results today.

Much higher than anticipated... my hands are still shaking

Test date: 9/14
Score Release: 10/6 - 237/99
USMLE World: 60% (guestimate, since I redid the wrong Q's twice)
Kaplan Qbank: 50-60%'s
Step 1: 226/94
NBME 4: 7/19/10 - 171
NBME 2: 8/7/10 - 186
NBME 3: 8/16/10 - 194
Practice prometric test: 8/22/10 - 80%
USMLE Step 2 CK: 9/14/10 - 237/99

Started studying seriously about 2 months, averaging 8 hours for the 1st month, and 10 hours the 2nd month

I started NBME's REALLY low, like 175 prior to studying, and eventually increased to about 195 1 month prior the exam. I didn't want to admit that I didn't study along the 3rd year and feared that I would get a low score. Eventually I stopped taking NBME's altogether and decided that I would try my best and not look back.

For the 1st month, I reviewed IM only. I read Step Up to Medicine, did both UW and Kaplan, and read secrets during my free time. I reviewed by subject, reading about 3 hours per day, then qbanks for the rest of the day. First I finished the Kaplan Q's for that subject, then I moved on to UW. I started with 50's in the Kaplan Q's, but by the time I moved onto UW I usually get high 50's to low 70's. I think this really helped me because I learned from Kaplan Q's and applied my knowledge to UW Q's. In the end, I'm not sure if reading helped as much, although it cleared up most of my confusion and misunderstanding for a lot of subjects, SUTM was definitely a difficult read and was very time consuming - I would recommend reading this only during your IM rotation. Secrets, on the other hand, helped me tremendously, as it focused on high yield facts and made them easier to remember. In the end, SUTM helped with the details and Secrets made them easier to remember.

I took notes from UW only, since Kaplan had crap explanations for their qbank, and put them onto a piece of blank paper folded into half front and back. Since the pages were small and I squeezed a lot of words on them, I took them with me everywhere and reviewed whatever I wrote during the day on my bed before going to sleep. At the end I accumulated about 30 pages worth of these notes, and reviewed them the last 2 weeks.

For the 2nd month, I spent the 1st half reviewing all other subjects (surgery, peds, psych and OBGYN), and the 2nd half an overall review of everything. I used the same technique from before, except I used Kaplan surgery vignettes + secrets for surgery, FA/Secrets for Peds, FA/Secrets for Psych and Epi/biostats, and just Secrets for OBGYN since the FA version was too long. For the 2nd half, I redid all the UW incorrect's randomly x2, reviewed all my UW notes, and read secrets 2 more times.

In the end, I finished about 95% for both UW and Kaplan, read SUTM x1, Secrets x3, and memorized the high-yield tables on FA. If I were to do it again, I would switch to a more inclusive book like FA or MTB from SUTM, which I referred to many times when SUTM wasn't clear about the steps to DX and TX the pt. If I had more time to study, I would read all the Kaplan books, take notes onto FA/MTB along with notes from UW.

Test day: My test was scheduled at 12pm, so I woke up around 10, had the usual breakfast (oatmeal and fried eggs) and walked in to a familiar setting since I went to prometric just 3 weeks ago. Got a lunch bag with 2 gatorade's, some snack bars, a light chicken salad sandwich and a red bull. Before starting the test I prayed and mentally calmed myself. Gave myself a time limit for every question, read first and last 2 sentences of each question, then took a best guess. I felt the questions to be easier than either UW or Kaplan, in fact, I thought it was too easy compared to what I'm used to and thought that there must be something wrong with me. However, I just pushed on, finishing the test with actually 3-5 minutes remaining for almost every block, which is unusual because I always run out of time in UW or Kaplan. After each block I counted down the blocks remaining, but eventually stopped doing that because the test was just too long. After about 3-4 blocks, I felt time passed faster and each block ended faster. I separated the breaks with 5-5-10-20-5-5-10, and during lunch I ate, jogged 2 blocks, then attempted to nap for 10 minutes. Towards the end, I felt the answers came to me easier, and I spent less time doubting the other answers, probably because I had less mental energy to do so and was using my subconscious mind more. I was mentally fatigued by the last block, but I saved the red bull for that purpose and drank a quarter of it the last break. I walked out of the test feeling good, but it was due to the feeling of being done rather than knowing that I did well.

My word of advice for people scoring low in the beginning is to never give up. I burnt out a few times during studying, and originally scheduled the test on 8/29 but almost had a panic attack the night before so I extended it 2 weeks. If you burn out, just take a day or 2 to relax and recharge, then you're good to go for 2 more weeks 🙂 In the end, I thank God, my family and friends who supported and nourished me mentally and spiritually through my studies. There's no way I could have done this myself.

USMLE Step 1: 207/85 🙁
NBME Form 4 (08/01): 360 (180) :scared:

Original test date: 08/28 - freaked out so I pushed it to 09/20. Not the best decision because I was trying to impress everyone on my medicine inpatient sub-I.

NBME Form 2 (09/04): 430 (199)
NBME Form 2 (09/11): 480 (213)
NBME Form 4 (09/15): 530 (224)

USMLEWorld: 65% mostly on tutor mode, did not get to finish all of the questions, sadly.

USMLE Step 2 CK: 224/97

Blah. Wish I could have gone higher to the 230's or 240's. Definitely not the best idea to take it during my inpatient sub-I, but I tried too hard to get the scores back for interviews. Oh well. At least I have some interviews lined up? Wondering whether to release this score now or later.

Step 1: 201 (ouch)
Shelf exams: Spread widely from 60s to 80s

Studied for 5 weeks using UWorld qbank and crush.
NBME 4, 1 week into studying: 500 (217)
Uworld: 61% correct, mostly first time through, but I also made some tests of questions that I marked.
Step 2 CK taken 9/20 and reported 10/13: 233/99.

Very pleased, though still would have liked to improve more.

There seems to be a lot of confusion about score reporting, so here's the skinny: Got an email 10:30 this AM saying my score report would be available from the NBME website at 11. Tried to go online at 11, but the website was slammed. Got on about 11:20 AM, and there was my report. Scores are NOT released at midnight.

Good luck everybody. It's hard but definitely doable.

Step 1 -- 235/98
Step 2 -- 267/99

Step 2 prep:
-USMLEWorld x 1 ~ 70% overall on first pass; last 6 blocks were probably around 73-77%, hit 81% a couple of times in the last 10 or so blocks. Had like 5 days left when I finished the bank, probably got through about 1/3 of my missed questions, maybe a little more or less. That is all I used. I opened First Aid, thought it sucked, never used it. StepUp to Medicine sat in the corner of my desk. It got moved once when I knocked a bottle of beer over. I studied by doing between 2-3 blocks of 44 per day, for about 24 days or so. Spent about 75% of this time reviewing every explanation, whether I knew it cold or not.

Nice job juiceman! And congrats to all the other recent passers!

You can add me to the list of step 2 CS passers

Took nbme 3, three weeks before the thing: 196
UWSSA 1 week before: 210

Actual score: 223. meh.

sources: FA, secrets, master the boards step III, and some books in the kaplan series.

UWorld average 1st attempt, no repeats: 64%

SDN skews heavy towards folks who get amazing scores and fair play to them. But realistically, most of us will get somewhere near the mean and about half will struggle to do so. So I'm posting this for that half.

Step 1: 210's
USMLE World: First pass, around 55-65%, finishing 80% of questions.
Step 2 CK: 220's

Book recommendations for the non-genius:
Folks have long postings of texts for each subject that they recommend. Personally, I think for most of us, there's a bigger risk of indigestion than starvation. I'd strongly recommend Crush or Secrets (I preferred Secrets) and a single multi-subject book for skimming (I used First Aid). The only subject book I used was Step Up for Medicine, which I used sporadically. to read There's just not enough time to try multitudes of textbooks when your time is better spent studying questions.

USMLE World recommendations:
This is good stuff. Try to do all of them, but it's better to do them properly than skim through. Understand not just the right answers but the wrong ones. This is where the repitition comes in. After doing a first pass, make sure to spend a couple of days going through each question again and refreshing your memory. I used the highlighting function liberally in the answers, and that helped. For the 15-20% of the questions I didn't have time to do, I went back and spent a day going through the question answers to look over the concepts.

Test content:
Folks occasionally talk about the obscure stuff, but that's only because it sticks in your head after the test. Rest assured, the big majority of the content is pretty high yield stuff. Study accordingly. I had lots of questions on things like pneumonia and HIV cold, but nothing on the glycogen storage diseases. Don't sweat the really funky stuff too badly unless you're gunning for a high score.

Hope this helps someone. I'm just hoping that the takeaway is that for those of us who are below-the-mean test-takers, you'll find that the Step 2 is much kinder if you paid attention during third year and worked hard.

Best of luck to those about to take it...

Not Dead: Humility + honesty creates great physicians (plus you know your stuff well enough). Bravo on your score!

Medicine 4 Me: I'd release Step 2. My reasoning: Your step 1 might leave some vague doubt about future scores (Will he go down to 180's-190's). You've shown with Step 2 that you have a solid foundation, and that can only help. If a program is looking for an astronomical score, your Step 1 alone would be a problem anyway. Good Luck!

Really amazing scores people are posting. Is a 260-270 really as high as it sounds? For people who got your scores back, what was the mean and standard deviation for your exam? I'm just wondering how the percentiles correlate...
