Probably been discussed before, but can't find a recent thread....

I'm just curious about what scores people were getting on USMLE World, and then how you ended up doing on Step 2.

All you have to do is post two numbers...... 🙂

Thanks folks, and good luck with everything!!

I agree I did very well on the shelf exams with "only" a 247 step 1 but not to make excuses (and why I didn't include this beside my step 1 score in the previous post), my sister passed away the same month I took step 1. Emotionally I was such a wreck I attempted to postpone my third year until I could get my life together, however one of my mentors talked me into starting IM, and I'm glad I did, to take my mind off everything.

Otherwise I'm 4th in my class as of the end of 2nd yr, no rank has been released since third yr ended, I expect to be two or three of 161. So, yes I hate to act like this w/a 247 but I'm disappointed with my score. "Dissppointed" only in the way that I know I could and should have done better but it just wasn't in the cards that summer.

Now to make this post relevant to the discussion, my print permit link disappeared over the weekend, wed the 17th it is.

Well, like I said, pretty amazing set of scores. Great job and keep up the good work. I'm very sorry for your personal loss along the journey. I'm sure you will match wherever you please!

BTW I think i read a post on here alread that someone called NBME and they mentioned that the permit link is taken down the week before your score is released - regardless of whether or not you passed.

Boo. I was really hoping our scores would come out today. I'm very worried, and now I have another week.

I got a 193 on step 1, and a 207 on USMLE world simulated exam. I passed all my shelf exams easily in the 37th-78th percentiles. I am not sure how I felt afterwards, better than I did on step 1, in a way, but I got several of the first question in couplet questions wrong.

I hope we all pass. I want to go into psychiatry, and a pass will work for me I believe.

best of luck to everyone.

Any of the July 30-August 2 people have their permit link taken down?

Thanks for the kind words, it was a tough 3rd year.
I'm doing IM--not an ultra competitive field, but maybe it will help me with some bigger-named programs:xf:

Yea, I read something similiar about the "permit link" on another site. Oh well, there are still many more USMLE/NBME myths to speculate about:laugh:!

Congratulations to everyone who is done with Step 2!! It feels great just to mark something else off the list!

Anecdotally, I have noticed (for the most part) a very positive correlation between the UWSA for Step 2 and actual scores. Was one point for me...another reason I think UWorld is great👍

What do you guys think of "master the boards"? Like it? Did you use the step 2 or step 3 book for the step 2ck? I heard a lot of people use the step 3 MTB book for the step 2 exam??

I'm July 30, and my link is still up. Does the link typically go away the Friday prior to score release or the Monday before?

I tested 8/2 which is when they changed the format. my permit is still up. hope I didn't fail 🙁

For 7/30, scores should be out this Wednesday.

Don't know if I should check before I go to clinic or not. I hope the UWSA does indeed correlate. I'll be excited to pass, and celebratory if I break 200.

It's not only ridicuous, it's unfair, the announcement clearly states the delay would start from august 3, I also took it on the 2nd, has anyone called NBME just in case? I'm gonna be really f*%#in pissed if I have to wait till the 28th.. 😡

I did. It's the 28th...

if you're step 2 CS permit disappears, is that also a good sign? both my ck/cs permits have disappeared now.

Why would 8/2 test takers have to wait until the 28th esp if you didn't have any drug protocol/abstract questions?

I took it on 8/2 and did have those new questions. I think they implemented it on the 2nd.

took the beast today...and it was a beast to say the least. Unfortunately, i couldn't slay it.

The abstract/drug questions were doable, i had 7 total questions and i probably got 4/7, the others I got wrong. Biostats was doable, ethics was easier than step 1. Some questions were just redonkulous, others were stupid brain farts, others were "is it this one, or that one."

Not too much time to think, you either know it or you don't.

by the way...i had at least 20-25 questions DIRECTLY from usmleworld...literally the exact same concept!!

=(

Step 1: 240

Took CK on the 2nd, so expecting score tomorrow. Permit disappeared late Sunday

Studied 4-5 weeks during rotations. Used Crush x 2, FA CK x 1, UW x 2

UW average: 82% second time through [about 70% first time through]
NBME 1: 210 [did not like outdated style and non-UW logic]
NBME 2: 216 [slightly better than NBME1 but outdated & not representative of real thing]
UWSA: 222 [took it early on and missed easy questions]

*Hoping to score 240+
*Realistically, will be happy with 230 considering how awful I felt after the exam. Felt more broken than step 1 although that ended up okay.
*I will be very upset with anything less than 230, but there ain't skittles I can do about it

I'll say that I am disappointed but not surprised. I managed to screw myself in the end by being lazy.

Step 2 CK: 226/99

I have no idea how that's a 99 but I'll take it.

Took it 7/30.
Step 1: 245

Step 2: 247

Pretty much what I expected seeing as how I didn't take any time off to study for it or anything. Didn't open a book either. Uworld and Kaplan Qbank are enough provided you do enough of them. Their assessments are pretty fair though I scored about 5-10 points lower than UWorld assessment.

MCAT: 24
Step 1: 231/99
Step 2: 256/99

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

I got like 60s and 70s and like a couple 80s on shelfs. It is possible!!!!

Freakin stoked!!!

Step 1: 237
Step 2: 251

🙂 UWorld x1 during third year (61% average) and reset it and did about 70% of the questions again after third year ended (78% average). Ended with Medicine, so that probably was the most helpful. Used Step Up to Medicine during Medicine rotation, and First Aid during Step 2 studying. Extra bonus: was 7.5 months pregnant when I took the exam. 🙂 Thanks, baby! We did it!

Took step 2 August 1st, got my score back today.

MCAT: 28
Step 1: 215
UWSA: 235
UWorld 1st pass average: 69%
Step 2: 259

I'm a very clinically oriented person and am happy to finally have something to show for that type of knowledge (unlike my step 1 score).

I used every uWorld question, the Internal Medicine Kaplan videos, and the psych/ob/gyn/peds sections of first aid over a period of 3 weeks with my last rotation being IM.

I don't have anything to add advice wise as it has pretty much already been said in this thread. I'd just like to leave some encouragement that it is possible to significantly jump from step 1 if you didn't hit the score you were hoping for! It just takes showing up to rotation everyday ready to learn and putting in some dedicated step 2 study time before the test.

Tomorrow is the last release of scores for the old test format. Good Luck!

I have to say, this forum is extremely helpful in many respects. But it is also extremely biased and discouraging at times. Before applying to medical school, coming here made me believe that my 28-30 MCAT score (took it twice) wouldn't get me into a US MD program. That was so wrong, and I got a lot of interviews. I didn't volunteer in another country for a year, I didn't go to an IVY league school and I didn't always know I was gonna be a doc. Just be careful by the discouraging comments on this site.

Med school:
Step I: 206...I had a lot going on during Step I studying. I should not have taken it when I did. I had 65% of UWorld left and my percentage was not improving.

Shelf score:Clerkship Grade
Peds - 72😛ass
FM - 73:High Pass
IM - 74:High Pass
OB/GYN - 76:Honors
Psych - 81:High Pass
Surgery - 79:High Pass

Step II: I didn't want my Step I score to define me. I spent about 4 weeks studying using UWorld, Secrets, and DIT.

UWorld is definitely the most helpful. I got through 100% and went back for the ones I got wrong. I took one-liner notes only on the correct answers and read this the day before.

Secrets is a good change of pace and importantly an EASY read when you're tired of reading. Grab it early if you can and use it for FMED.

DIT is unnecessary if you are self-motivated to stick to a schedule - I like Step up to Step 2 because of its length and basically needed someone to read it to me to stay focused.

NBME 4: 3.5 weeks prior to exam: 218 (450)
UWSA: Approx 2-2.5 weeks prior to exam: 229
UWorld: 1st pass (reset having done psych and peds ?s) 70%
I don't find the NBME exams that useful because looking up answers can be frustrating.
Step II CK : 246/99. I'm really happy about this. Hopefully someone takes notice of my 40 point score bump!

Took step 2 August 1st, got my score back today.

Congrats on the awesome bump in score!

yep. didn't get my scores today and took the 8/2 new format. I don't think we are getting them back till september for sure. Soooooooooo unfair!

btw, Congrats to everyone today, looks like everyone did well.

Maybe this has been covered...but aren't the exam averages different (I: 220, II:230), and thus, "bumps" in score are not as dramatic as they seem to be?

Well, technically, yes. On AVERAGE people clearly improve with their Step 2 score, versus Step 1. However in the case of many of those who received their scores back today, regardless of the 'expected' 10 point increase, it seems that their improvement was, in fact, dramatic.

I took mine on 7/30, and I just checked my score. I'm pretty happy with what I found. Here are my stats:

Step 1 = 244
Shelf Exam scores mostly in the mid to upper 70's with an 88 and 89 in psych and surgery. I did OK 3rd year; nothing to write home about, though.

I studied for four weeks full-time in July with my girlfriend. I did all of USMLE World in timed 44 question blocks. This was my first and only pass through World, but I was pretty anal about reviewing the explanations. My girlfriend and I made it through Secrets quizzing each other all the way. Used SUTM/MTB for supplemental info when applicable.

USMLE World = 68%
Step 2 = 252

Thanks to all those who have posted in this thread as well as the shelf threads in the clinical rotations forum. Your advice has been terrific and I would have been lost without it.

Took it 7/30. Felt like a** coming out. Missed the first question in several of the sequential, 2 question sets (easy questions too!!) so felt pretty terrible about my chances for the score I wanted. Used world throughout 3rd year and did it again during my 3.5 weeks of studying, then redid all the questions I missed, so I ended up seeing some questions 3-4 times over the course of the year. Reread step up to medicine as I finished IM in September, redid about half of the UWISE questions and reread half of peds pretest. If I were doing it over, I'd do world another time, read through step up to medicine less thoroughly so as to get through it more quickly, read secrets and reread first aid for psych as that was my weakest shelf and the area on step 2 ck where I was farthest to the left. Here are my numbers:

Step I: 259
Shelf scores from first to last:
IM: 92
Psych: 82
OBGYN: 93
Peds: 97
Family: 84
surgery: 98

UWSA: 266, taken 4 days before my exam
Step 2: 266

Best of luck to all studying now.

how many total questions do you think you missed?

On the real exam? No idea. While taking it, I felt there were a lot I had to make educated guesses on so I really couldn't say. Sorry.

I felt like i missed about 4-5 per block = about 32-40 questions wrong. Just wanted to see what your experience was

Sorry, previous post came off as a little jerkish.

There were two blocks where I felt like I knew all but 2 or 3, but the rest I don't know. If you held a gun to my head, I'd say I missed 5-7 per block on those, but as I mentioned, it felt like I was guessing a lot so it's hard to say.

Cool thanks. I know what you mean...the test is a lot of educational guessing. Only if I didn't have several brain farts throughout the exam...

Ill find out at the end of september

I slay the beast tomorrow.

Here's what I did:

-6 weeks of studying.
-Read Step Up 1.5 times
-Did QBank twice with a 62-68% average
-Read Case Files for Psych just because
-Did a Practice test a week ago and got a 231.

I got a 202 on Step I. I am hoping for a 220 on Step II. I think my chances are good?

extremely good.

gl man, i take it tomorrow too.. im just watching comedy movies all day lol

I am taking it tomorrow as well.
Uworld Practice Test: 207 (first day, before studying)
Uworld Average: 65%

I read most of Secrets and did Uworld once, then redid my weakest sections a second time to end up with a 79% average and having completed Uworld about 1.5 times.

I planned to do a second practice test at some point, but just decided it would be a waste of time and would be very unlikely to help me, so I just did more UWorld.

I know I made a lot of improvement from my pre-studying practice test, but honestly I don't know what to expect.
