When I went to fill out the USN gpa worksheet, I noticed that they ask you to put in Units earned and grade points. then you divide units earned by grade points to get your gpa.

however, the true gpa is grade points divided by "UNITS ATTEMPTED" rather than "UNITS EARNED" no??

because if I take a 1 unit P/NP course and a 4 unit course and earned an A, that is 16 grade points, divided by 4 units "attempted" which is 4.0 gpa.
but if you use "units earned", then its 16 grade points divided by 5 units earned which is 3.20 GPA.

why would they ask you to use units earned to calculate your gpa? that is not the gpa on the transcript.

this applies to SIUE School of pharmacy as well

Clearly you wouldn't put a 3.2 if you earned an A in the class. I have never heard of classes that have both a graded and P/F component together but yeah, just make it work with the logical rational you've just listed here.

based on your answer, you misunderstood me.

They ask you to input your "earned units" but my idea was that you should put "attempted units".
If you look on your transcript you will know what i'm talking about.

earned units means all the units you took.
attempted unit means the units you took for a letter grade.

if we use earned units and we took it for a Pass grade, that means we get 0 earned units, which is same as getting an F.

so my idea is that by using the numbers they ask for, every Passing grade is the same as getting an F, whicfh isn't reflected as your real gpa.

I doubt they are having you count passes as Fs, especially since they are a P/NP school. I'd either call them up and ask or just use the units attempted and leave it at that. I think they recalculate your GPA anyway so if you make a mistake it will get fixed. I know that my GPA calculation was extracomplicated with retakes between semester and quarter schools and I have no idea if I did it right. It all worked out though.
