UT Health Science Center San Antonio - Only dual degrees/concentrations?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
So no is the answer.

Without working on a distinction or going for a dual degree path there is no other choice.

That's probably because you are looking at the options on AMCAS which is not how you apply to UTHSCSA's MD-only program
This. For most TX school you need to apply through TMDSAS.

nope. went right to the schools website directly.

This is the answer i got from the school:

Subject: RE: Degree programs

Md/MPH, MD with Distinction in Research., MD with Distinction in Education, Md/PhD.

XXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Professor of Anesthesiology and Pharmacology
Distinguished Teaching Professor
Senior Associate Dean for Admissions
etc....

Thanks for alllllllllllll the great info chuckles........

I'm pretty familair with this school. Dr. Jones is great, but his emails are always very very brief and concise. I suspect he just didn't understand what you were asking exactly and just gave you the information about alternatives to the traditional MD program since that's what applicants are always asking about.

Those "distinctions" are (A) optional additions to the regular curriculum and (B) not something you apply to until after you enroll. They are not dual degree programs like the MD/MPH or MD/PhD.

You are probably looking in the wrong place on their website. Sounds like you are looking in the admissions corner where they talk about/advertise their degree programs. It is assumed that all of those programs are alternatives to the traditional 4-year MD degree. Would it make things clearer if the website explicitly stated such? Yes, but there's nothing special to advertise about the "MD-only" degree since it's all covered pretty comprehensively everywhere else on their site. By the way, I found a nice condensed summary of the curriculum changes here.

I think you are looking for this: Certificates Offered

Scroll down to "School of Medicine Degrees" and you'll find your "plain jane" MD degree.

It had me a bit baffled as most of the programs had a capacity limit...

Thanks Morzh!

Do you go there currently? It's my OMGIREALLYWANTTOGOTHERE school. Not only due to proximity to my house but im (currently) aiming for the Ortho residency there as well...would be great to get them both.

All- no offense intended with the "plain jane" comment...finals have started early for me :scared: and i could not dig out a better phrase, my apologies if anyone was offended.
