what does pre match mean'
Prematches are offered in October and January prior to official match day in February. If offered a prematch at a school, it means that if you rank that program #1, you will match there on match day. However, you are not obligated to rank the program at #1, and are still able to match at other schools you interview at should you rank them higher. Prematches are typically offered to highly qualified applicants... some schools give out lots of prematches, and others give out only a few and fill the majority of their class on match day in February.

Its not just 2 specific dates. If a school offers prematches on the first day allowed in Texas of October 15th, they usually continue adding more until the ranking day late January at regular intervals.

Prematch data is not widely available. Every TMDSAS school sends out prematches, but the amount varies by quite a bit (as reported on SDN, anyways)

There is no limit on prematches but schools are very picky about them. Some schools fill 10% of their class with prematches, others up to 50%, but you have to keep in mind that on match day you are only getting one school so even a school that sends a lot of acceptances before match day still ends up using the match to fill a majority of their seats.

Hi, I am an incoming MS1 at McGovern. I run a local tutoring business in Houston and I am looking for tutors for high school this upcoming school year. Tutoring is all after school so it will not interfere with other activities such as clinical work and research, but is a great way to make some extra money, find fulfillment helping these students, and an extra thing to talk about while you are in an interview. If you are interested at all please DM me!

For prompt 1, what sounds better to write about?

I can talk about how I was a research assistant for a lab in McGovern for about half a year after I graduated and learning how to cryosection, managing to cut my hand on the blade one day. Hesistant because I already talked about this somewhat in my activity description.

Another is taking the MCAT, taking it 3 times. First time I voided it because I felt very unprepared, second time 505, and thrid time 516.

I also feel that I can possibly talk about my lab experience for prompt 2 but also still worried since I mentioned it briefly in my primary.

Anyone know what the Kira is like? I checked out last years thread but didn't see too much about it, other than it may be similar to UTMB

This may be a dumb question, but how does the timing of secondary submission work with interviews? Does McGovern send out interviews in waves or rolling? If I submitted my secondary earlier than some of the people getting interviews, and I haven’t heard back yet, does that mean I’m not going to get one? Is that a bad sign or just something random that I shouldn’t worry about? Also, congrats to everyone who has received an II so far!!

I was on an admissions zoom for them a couple of days ago and they mentioned processing applications in the order they are received, so applying earlier is better. But unsure if they reevaluate earlier applicants for later interview waves.

Hmm ok, good to know. I know a lot of school prioritize high stat/good mission alignment for first rounds of interviews. Hoping one comes my way soon!

They most definitely do! I was complete by early/mid June and got an invite third/fourth wave! So do not fret

does applying on a non business day make u "earlier" as in if i apply like on sunday does tht make me earlier than monday or do they review the apps on weekends also like those on weekdays since i assume they dont work over the weekend

LM 70.2, McGovern is my top choice, and I submitted my secondary on 06/16, so definitely in the earlier pool. I've seen quite a few people receive interview invites - are they prioritizing higher-stat applicants for the earlier rounds? I am really hoping to get an interview from here

They have thousands of essays to read and evaluate before choosing whom to interview, it takes time

Is it strongly advised to have at least one secondary talk about a clinical experience? My primary essays have clinical stories but none of my secondaries do.

It really just depends on what the questions are, from school to school.
As I look over the McGovern questions for this year, for example, question 1 (part one) and question 2 could "possibly" lead to a clinical story, but seem more aimed at your individual path and experiences.
For each secondary, your first job is to read through and see "what are they asking?"

It seems the order they are sending II has no trend by date or stats, which makes me feel better. But, let me know if there is a trend I'm missing.

Can folks also post their home location? My guess is that they are inviting those who are located close to Houston first as those will be the ones who have most probability of joining.
We allow anonymity on SDN

McGovern sends secondaries to all with a complete TMDSAS application, but they are only human and can’t process your apps instantly.
Hometown is not a factor

I understand that everyone receives secondaries and that was not my concern. I was curious about the Interview Invites (not the secondaries) and wanted to see if there was a pattern. I didn't think stating your general hometown like Dallas area, Houston area, Austin area etc. would compromise anonymity.

In my opinion, for McGovern, hometown does not matter. There are not going to be any discernible patterns for interview invites that are publicly available.

Well .. we won't know that unless folks here post their hometown area information (voluntarily).

I will second that hometown does not matter for McGovern. Same for most other Texas schools outside of ones that look specifically for regional ties (RGV, Tyler)

I mentioned in my interview here that I hate the Astros. However, I am awesome, so I’m sure they were able to look past it. 😉

To address the likelihood of attending - this whole thing is moot when you have the match system.

I'm keeping track and so far see two 'waves' of invites - 7/16 and 7/23. And the only trend I can see so far (of the 13 IIs I counted) is that the Secondaries were all submitted in June, although some were beginning of the June and some at the end even in the same wave. The more telling 'trend' is that on average the LM score is 73.6 for those 13. In fact, all of the Texas schools have invited generally the high stats folks. Baylor is at 79.0 and UTSW at 77.3.

should i aim for my secondaries to discuss a health care/ clinical experience at least once?? or is it ok if most of my lessons were from non-medical situations
