*EDIT*

I saw Robert Earl Keen a couple years ago at a 4th of July concert @ a Missions game (Go Missions !) but that was my last concert before Green...that's a long time.

Boo Missions! Yeah RoughRiders!!!

Frisco RoughRiders, Texas League Champions 2004!

:luck: texDC Well, I don't know much about the new curriculum, but I can tell you that you won't get a better education. I am in residency in the east coast and feel incredibly well prepared by my alma mater. San antonio is a great city to go to med school in. Just enough distraction without there being to much distraction. Lots of outdoor stuff to do as well. Close to austin, major airport that's easy to get into and out of.

Best of luck making your choice!

Can someone please explain to me why the TX League has teams from AR and OK?

Well...alluding to previous posts, everyone wants to be a part of TEXAS!

Great link, man. Thanks!

Okay, so I've been playing around with Photoshop and I came up with a half-decent wallpaper. If you like I can email you the bigger (500 kb) file. Suggestions are welcome.

I think that this calendar will be adjusted slightly, as we no longer have CIC in our curriculum. How much of a change do you guys think this will have?

Where did u see CIC? Are you looking at 2005-2006?

Hey guys, I found a very good guide on moving to San Antonio to attend UTHSCSA (housing, fin aid, link to student guide, health insurance, general tips etc):

This calendar was already corrected to take that into account. We started this year on July 5; our white coat ceremony was June 28. So y'all's extra month of summer ( 😡 ) is already figured in.

That is the adjusted calendar. CIC normally started in June. 😱

Whoops--I read "First Class Day" on June 15 and neglected to see that this was for the MS3's. Our first class day isn't until August 1--phew!

BTW, I've been feeling very ditzy lately. Last night, I could have sworn that the link that DualSuperLead posted read "2004 Entering Class." I kept going back to the UTHSCSA home page and clicking on "Information for Applicants," but "2005 Entering Class" never appeared on my computer screen. However, when I checked again this morning, I was able to view the updated class list (the link now read "2005 Entering Class").....what's wrong with me guys?

Thanks for posting these links guys! I can see I am going to have to rely on my classmates for keeping me up-to-date! BTW-I have never been so excited about starting school in August.

P.S. LOVE the wallpapers (I am dealing with the aversion to burnt orange and longhorn cattle, but I hope to be over it by the summer.)

Yah, the links are great--especially for busy, lazy people like me!

And AggieGal--you know you look better in burnt orange!

The UT to A&M ratio looks kind of stacked, you Aggies might have to convert or go underground. I go to a non-Austin UT school, but my allegiance is to the UT system forever.

I don't foresee a conversion, but I can definetly have allegiance to both. As long as I don't have to root for the Longhorns the day after Thanksgiving. (I was thoroughly brain-washed since birth 🙂 )

Heading down to Ol San Antonio tomorrow for the weekend and then off to the Mayan Riviera, Mexico. Mi Tierra here I come!!!!! Cannot wait to move down there for good and to meet ya'll (holy crap that came naturally).

Not sure if any of you guys are on facebook, but I started a UTHSCSA c/o 2009 group. PM me for more info so I can invite you to join 🙂

Hey guys--

I saw Dr. Jones yesterday at the Health Professions Fair at UT. He was so warm and friendly--and he recognized me too! Maybe this is because he interviewed me in January....anyway, he said that Filo from A&M came up to him and asked, "What did you do this year? You took all the good students!" Anyway, FYI, the class has 40 students from UT....hook 'em horns!

You just sign on through your undergraduate school. thefacebook.com I think you have to have your school email address, but I am not for sure.

AsianDoc-- that's good to hear! It sounds like we are going to have some outstanding classmates/colleagues 👍

facebook is the VERY ADDICTIVE website that links students at undergrad school across the US. It's really cool, because it has a feature to look up people that went to highschool with you. (although some of us would probably like to forget those years...) Anyways most big universities have it and it's free.

Addictive like Xanga....have you heard of that, txguy?

Hmmmm....I told myself that I wouldn't engage in any addictive computer activities besides SDN....but, what is there to lose?

Just a side note- I am currently working at a law firm, and I can not BELIEVE the number of doctors getting divorced. It's crazy! I guess the upside is that their inventory of assets is incredible...

Morning AD! How's it?

AG - all the more reason to choose more carefully! 😱

Afternoon, Evo!

Do you guys think that the doctor-doctor divorce rate is higher than doctor-nondoctor divorce rate? The reason, AggieGal, for the high rates of divorce amongst doctors is the tendency for doctors to be workaholics. I told my mom long ago that I would have divorced my dad because he works WAY too much (this is so sad, I know). He is obsessed with his career (ER doc), and at times, it seems like his only motivation in life. The upside to this is that he is a great medical reference for me....blessed with good skill, intuitions, and intelligence for such a demanding and time-consuming field!

Can you have groups with members from multiple undergrads??

Congratulations y'all on getting in.. Just FYI, there's a yahoo group where people from UTHSCSA buy/sell stuff......the stuff being anything from books to houses and condos. If you want access to it, i think it's called utmedbuysell and it's in the yahoo groups thing. There was a couple of emails today about available housing from there, so if any of y'all are interested you should sign up for it. If i've duplicated information that you've already gotten, then sorry!

again, welcome to SA...you've got BIG-SHOES to fill from both my class and the one ahead of you!

One phase test down, five more to go!!!

Anyways, our class officers are going to send out a welcome packet sometime soon with TONS of information in it, including how to access the utmedbuysell yahoo group. So if you can't get in now, don't fret. We'll take care of you!

Soo, does anyone know if it's worth it to buy a tablet pc for UTSA? Are most of the presentations in powerpoint and available online? What about wireless? Enquiring minds wanna know..

Don't know if they have wireless in the lecture halls (i believe they do), but they do have it in the library. A relatively inexpensive tablet pc is the Averatec 3500-T60 (CompUSA is selling it for $999 AR this week). In general, good deals on laptops are found and posted on the fatwallet forums (http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/categories.php?start=16&catid=18)

As far as I know, wireless internet is available in the library and the dental school lecture halls. They are working on installing it for the medical school lecture halls, but I don't believe that is available right now...but it might be for your class next year.

One of the girls that sits in front of me used a tablet pc for the first couple of months of class, but ended up abandoning the idea. Many of our lectures are in powerpoint, but if I were to estimate, I would say that only about a quarter of them are available to us online (it's dependent on the professor). Here's the deal...you pay $400 for the syllabi for the first semester and another $150 for second semester. It's 99% of the lecture notes (minus some of the clinical correlations). These are mostly powerpoint presentations printed out for you, depending on the class and usually have room to take your own notes, if needed. Also dependent on the class is the amount of extra notes you need to take. For some classes such as anatomy, the syllabus is pretty complete. For others like physiology, you take alot of your own notes. But if you pay that much money (and it's required to purchase them) for the syllabi already printed out for you, I probably wouldn't recommend spending the extra money for a tablet pc. I'm just saying this as second hand information from the girl who did use the tablet pc.

Hope this helps!

PS--the powerpoint presentations usually aren't available to you online until after the lecture is given, anyways.

I have a question for any current UTHSCSA student,

are we going to need to buy any clinical equipment for the beginning of school? If so, will they tell us what we need in advance? I know that internet retailers has the same stethoscopes and other tools as the bookstore, often for 60% of the price. Yeah, I know its really early to think about things like this, but its exciting. Thanks!

Yes, we needed to have clinical equipment prior to the start of school, but they will be sending you information about this in the coming months. They will give you all of the info you need, which supplies to buy, model numbers, and prices. Once you have this letter, you can choose where to buy the equipment. I found most of my stuff on ebay and saved over $200. I know you are excited, but they will send you all of your information!!! They will prepare you before you come here, I promise!!!!
