Uvm!?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
our current UVM WL stats:

9 High
8 Middle
3 Low

Anyone else find these thirds nebulous? Saying you are in the top third of a bottomless pit doesnt mean anything. You can still be 100 (people or feet) deep.

Rumor has it that it's around 30 people per tier, but I never heard it officially.

none here. no movement...none...at all. nada.

I m in the middle third and going to withdraw as I m set at UCLA. Good luck guys :luck:

I am in the top third. I am withdrawing because I was just accepted to my dream school. Vermont is awesome, my heart will skip a beat when the snow begins to fall. Good luck, all of you, I know you will have a fantastic experience and be great docs.

I'm pulling for all you waitlist folks. Looks like there's a lot of movement out of UMV. There ought to be some good news coming your way soon....

kelvin81, searun, Papillon11, notdeadyet: Congratulations for those of you who got in their dream schools 👍 You will all make excellent doctors, I have no doubt 🙂

keepin' the faith...(and bumping the thread)...

Just called UVM. I quote Mary K. when I say that the WL movement is still "very slow". Keep it up guys (and girls of course), August is not there yet! :luck:

Hey all, I just got an email from UVM telling me that I have been accepted to the Class of 2011!!! Goodluck to the rest of you guys/girls!!! Some advice...if you haven't already written a letter of intent, I'd sent them one asap. I was told by several UVM students that adcom loves it when students do it. Try not to write a generic letter though. Include things like why you want to go to UVM, why you would be a good fit, any memorable experience from interview day, what you can bring to the school, etc. Also, I was told that calling them weekly helps your chances as well. It shows the school that you really want to go there. As a matter of fact, I called them 15 minutes before I got the acceptance to just check on the status of the waitlist movement and to also reaffirm my desire to attend UVM. So don't lose hope everyone! I hope to see you all there in the fall! =)

Excellent news ntvu 🙂 Congratulations!

ntvu--congrats.. although I am not on the WL.. i just have a question for you

When you called the school, how did you start the conversation? I realize this sounds stupid. 😳 But i usually never get a chance to give them any distinct identifying info so that they know it is me the next time I call back..

and...how did you reiterate your interest in the school?? Apart from writing letters..did you attempt to make specific appointments, perhaps with the dean? Or did you simply talk to the secretary,"Hi my name is ___, I was wondering if there was any movement as of late..I'd like to say that I am still very interested in attending UVM, it's one of my top choices.." I never get in more than a minute with the sec...they always seem to be very busy🙁

Well any tips appreciated! CONGRATS!!👍

Hey everyone! I just withdrew my name from the top third portion of the waitlist. I will be going to UCI in my home state of California. Best of luck to everyone waiting to hear from UVM. I LOVE UVM, but it's too far, too cold and too expensive.

going up-hill in january (a wintery january...a burlington january)...

anyone heard anything more from UVM? i called on monday and they repeated that they accept people into the first week of classes. that would be unfortunate as i would already have had to move to another state...i hope i hear something soon...or at least by mid-july (when i am planning my move)...

sigh.

So guys, any more news?

Nothing too exciting. I spoke with Mary yesterday. She said that movement was really slow.

Yes, I also spoke with Mary yesterday. Why on earth isn't that list moving?!

probably because none of us is taking their name off! I think i'm pretty well decided on SLU, so that'll help everyone below me move up a spot at least.

FYI, when I interviewed, one of the kids told me how he had written every week and called every other week, and was accepted from the bottom third ahead of some of his friends who were above him. You might try it....

I just got in off of the wait list for Maine applicants, so any Mainers waiting out there have hope, there is some movement. 🙂

That is great news...As a fellow Maine Access candidate, I hope that there is a little more movement. Although already accepted to an MD program, I would really love to be in Burlington and do my clinical rotations in northern NE.

Looks like you too have other acceptances - where does UVM lie in your preferences? Also, how were you notified - did you receive an email or did your status in the online application change?

Again, congrats...it's been a long wait.

Nice to see some movement on the sluggish waitlist. Congratulations, te7d...

Congrats te7d 🙂
So how many WL's are there? In state, Out of State, Main Access... Anything else?

Spoke with the admissions office again. It seems like the list isn't really moving at all. Anyone else hear anything more promising?

Not at all? I was told yesterday it was moving very slowly, so at least I was hopeful it's moving. Hmm...

Does anyone know anything about re-applying while still keeping your name on the waitlist?

Has anyone heard of any recent movement?

Has anyone heard of any recent movement?
Should be at least one now. I just withdrew my acceptance from UVM today. It was a very hard choice and no reflection on the school (I'm an OOSer accepted to an instate school).

Hope the spot goes to one of you!

Thanks notdeadyet and all the best in med school.
Has anyone heard anything in the last couple of days? I called last week and was told the movement is still very slow...

I spoke with admissions yesterday. They said movement was still very slow and wouldn't tell me how it compared to last year's activity. Who knows, maybe there will be a sudden burst of activity as other waitlists move as well.

Best of luck to everyone

just called UVM who confirmed that the waitlist is slow...as we all know. they also told me that, while there are exceptions, they generally make their waitlist decisions by august 6th - not really mid-august as posted on the online applicant center.

hope this bit of information helps...a bit. waiting....(whistling...twiddling of thumbs...drumming of fingers)

what number are you guys calling to actually speak with the good folks at UVM? I've been using the general admissions number, and it seems that regardless of the time of day, nobody is around and it goes straight to voicemail.

i called 802-656-2154. i don't always get to speak with a person but seem to have better luck on fridays...

Hey folks,
I know this thread is for '07 applicants, but I just checked my online applicant center status. And it states that my application has been reviewed and I am within a pool that may be interviewed. Does this mean that I am on pre-interview hold? Did any of you folks get this same message last year? And if so, how long did it take for further action to occur?
Thanks

Hey folks,

It means nothing other than that you haven't been rejected outright. Wait a while and they'll decide whether or not to send you an email letting you know that you're interview material. Best of luck...

Anyone have any good news to share?

Anyone have any good news to share?

I was complete on 7/19 and today my status changed to "preliminarily reviewed. You are within a pool of applicants from which an interview may be extended." I looked in threads from last year, and it seems like you could get that message a few days before an interview invite, a few weeks, or possibly even never get the invite. So, apparently it doesn't mean much. It just means no outright rejection after their first review of your file.

How does it work with UVM, do they send you an email containing your username and password once they acknowledge the receipt of your application?

YES! The Waitlist is still moving and I just learned yesterday that I got in! Don't lose hope you guys! I cannot stress nearly enough how important it is to keep calling every week and writing update letters. UVM looks very favorably at such actions. It's only 10 days till orientation begins, so things will be crazy for me, but I'm very much looking forward to studying medicine!
Oh, and I'm wondering if it's normal for me, from a psychi point of view, to be feeling more shocked than happy?!

Congrats Lant! That's GREAT news!!!

Somehow 2008 applicants started posting in this thread too. Sorry about that. To follow up, I called UVM today to ask about the preliminarily reviewed/pool of applicants email, and she said that interview invites will start to go out in two weeks. Interview invites will be sent via email, so there's no need to check their status page manically.

Also, if you get that preliminarily reviewed email, it could be a few weeks to several months before receiving an interview - and that one is not guaranteed. I asked if it was essentially a "hold," and she said no, but it sounds like one. She said that periodically the dean will pull apps from this pool and decide whether or not to extend an interview invite. I asked if the pool was somehow ranked or tiered, and she said no.

Congrats and thanks for posting. I started to think that I was the only waitlister still hanging on to hope. Still waiting on the Maine Access list...

Have a great time in Burlington!

Well, I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I spoke with UVM today and they said they are done taking people off the waitlist for now. As someone in the "middle third" of the waitlist, I know it was a long shot anyhow.

Good luck to all those that managed to get off the list!
