it takes 12 months and btw Alaska is a state they accept students from.

i know...maybe i should go work at one of the natl parks in alaska for a year?
that'd be fun. last time i visited, there were lots of recent college grads there too.

If a person didn't receive the competitive pool email, do you think an acceptance or rejection is being sent his or her way? Does UW reject people this early in the process??

They do accept and reject people this early though the number is very small. I don't quite know what to think about not receiving the competitive pool email yet. I hope I wouldn't be rejected this early, but I really can't imagine getting accepted this early either. Maybe I'll get that email tomorrow or the next day or the day after that.

No email or mail today. Looks like more waiting.

I'm tempted to call and ask them when (if) they sent the final decision letters. Then again, patience is a virtue. I envy the person who can fully focus on their other activities and wait contently for whatever decision may (or may not) come.

I envy that person, too. This process has made me so neurotic. I had several dreams last night where I got both acceptance and rejection letters. I'm curious if all competitive pool emails were sent on the same day and if so, if we're still in limbo or if they made final decisions.

I feel for you guys. Treading water in the pool is hard enough--but you're in the limbo of limbos! Good thoughts your way. 🙂 :luck: 🙂

I broke down and called. She said I should be getting a letter within a week, but she couldn't tell me what the decision was. :scared: I'm so nervous.

Well then, I suppose I'm in the same situation. Good luck!

Good luck to you, too. I'm just in disbelief. I don't think I'm good enough to get accepted this early or bad enough to get rejected this early. I really thought I'd end up in the competitive pool. I had even planned out extra LORs. Well at the end of the week I may be incredibly happy or dealing with extreme depression.

Anybody have any info when the next adcom meeting is? how many are they going to have in december?

I think they meet once a month until January then once a week. Don't know when it is though. I checked my status online and it says I should receive a letter by the 22nd. I'm going to be on vacation then. Maybe it will be better not to know.

My online status page says that I'll receive something by the 19th. Hmmm...did they take into account the differences in our zip codes? Or did you get a larger packet so it will take a bit longer? 😀

I live pretty close to the UW so that can't be it. I like your second reason, though. Maybe they reviewed your file earlier or something. I really wasn't prepared to receive this kind of news so soon.

So today I got my rejection letter in the mail. To be honest, I was expecting it. The interview really didn't go that well despite all my preparation. So now I think I'll be going to MCW unless I hear back from OHSU. It would be nice to stay in the NW. Good luck to everyone in the competitive pool and to Creatine (if you haven't heard back already).

I'm sorry to hear that...but maybe this is motivation to excel at MCW or OHSU and then have the opportunity to apply to the UW for residency. Good luck with the rest of the process. I still haven't heard anything, but I'll post here when I do.

Zapp,
wow, I'm sorry to hear about your rejection. What do you think did it? I don't get it, doesn't make sense to me. honestly, I was rooting for you and when i read your post, my heart sank. Don't worry, though, at least you weren't put on hold for 6 months in agony before they rejected you 🙄 . I really am happy that you're gonna be a doctor. you should be proud of that. To creatine, good luck to you and I hope yours is an acceptance! Take care all, keep your chins up, competitive peeps! 😀 :luck: :luck:

I've been wondering what went wrong for a while. It's one of those things where you study and study for a test and then bomb it. I knew the topics, I just think I didn't relay it very well. I found out my aunt had cancer two nights before the interview and while I certainly didn't have time to reflect on it during the interview, I had been having trouble sleeping. That's my excuse. Still, it is quite a shock to not be put on the competitive list, but in some ways it is a relief to have a more concrete plan for next year. Now to only get my boyfriend of five years to figure out what he's going to do..........

So do they reject you at any time during this process as well? .. or just offer acceptances and leave everyone else hanging?

I talked to a guy who had been rejected in early March after having sat on the competitive list for 4 months (he had a 41 on the MCAT, btw!) so you never know. Though, the vast majority sit until april or a few are accepted before then.

Well, I have been fortunate enough to be accepted to the UW. My condolences go out to those who were rejected immediately, and my best wishes go out to those who have been waitlisted. Keep updating this thread as the process unfolds, and perhaps we will see each other in next year's class!

Zapp, I'm so sorry. 🙁 Hey, chin up! You've already been accepted elsewhere so anyway you look at it, you're going to be a Dr. I have an interview at MCW in January--so, who knows? We might be school buddies yet! And like someone else here said... at least you don't potentially have to wait MONTHS to receive the final answer.

Creatine... CONGRATS! Are you going to go there? It's great that now you can just sit back and relax until school starts.

The rest of us... I guess we just have to hang in there. We'll continue to cross our fingers...

thanks everyone for your posts, they've been really helpful, I have an interview in early dec. can I ask you guys what are you doing to prepare?

good luck to all of you.

Thank you! I will most likely be attending the UW, but I'm still keeping some options open until I hear back from other schools in March.

Congratulations man, you deserve it.

Here's a 👍 for you.

Congratulations Creatine. We now are the perfect sample of post-interview results. One rejection, one acceptance, and the rest in the competitive pool. It just couldn't work out any other way. 😛

hey creatine,
first of all CONGRATS!!! so what did the envelope with your acceptance look like? and since you got in to UW, would you willing to share your stats and history with the rest of us? it would be much appreciated!

Zap--that really sucks, but at least you got into another MS! Good luck resettling with your boyfriend--I know what a challenge that can be, just remind each other to keep chins up! I'm sure you'll resettle beautifully.

To Creatine--congrats! That's very exciting. I was just at the medical center today and saw hoards of white coated students following doctors up and down the halls--what an exciting thing to know that you'll be one of them soon enough! 😀

Creatine (I'm pretty sure) called me the other day about getting in. Congrats to him and good luck to the rest of you!

A large (8.5x11 sized) envelope with about 10 pages of materials inside.

I'd prefer to point you towards mdapplicants.com, which will give you a more complete picture (i.e. a larger sample size than just me) of what it takes to get accepted to UW . Simply search for individuals who received an acceptance from UW (leave the GPA and MCAT search fields blank) to get sense of the diversity of accepted applicants (in terms of stats, ec's, etc.). I'll have my profile up there within the next few weeks or so.

Hi all. Just got a sec from UWash and I was wondering how soon the class fills up and they only start giving out waitlist spots. By the time I'm complete (maybe a week or two) and am reviewed by the committee and hopefully receive an interview, will it be too late? Thanks! Just wondering whether I should submit a sec or not...

Everyone that I know that I think are very competitive got waitlisted, so I don't think you have less of a chance than most people. Def. worth submitting if you think you are competitive.

Everyone that receive an interview with UW, did anyone of you got interview with the OMCA? My interview is on the 10th.

anybody have any idea when the next few ADCOM meetings are? i have an inteview 12/10.

Yes, I did. They are wonderful! Don't be worried... they just want to help prepare you for the interview.

I thought it was about once a month until Jan or Feb when they start meeting more regularly. When you're there, they'll tell you when the next meeting is... be sure to report back!

As regarding the next adcom meeting, it was today (Dec. 3). Those with recent interviews ought to hear back on Monday. I was competitive-listed like most people after my interview, so damn. I'm hoping by some miracle they accidentally unearth my application and accept me this time around. Good luck to you all.

My interview with them is after the interview with the panel... I thought this was an additional interview.

Okay--still don't get it. What is OMCA? I already interviewed back in October and have no idea what y'all are talking about.... 😕

OMCA =office of multiculutral affairs. its for minority candidates.

Ah yes, that makes sense. I didn't know they did additional interviews, but we did meet someone from the office during lunch on interview day.

Everyone should be expecting to hear something on Monday, since the meeting was on Friday.

Any news?

Any news?

None here.

Does anyone know how this really works? Is there any system to the acceptance rates? How often do they re-review applicants in the pool? Do they try to make a certain number of accept/reject decisions at every meeting?
I'm just thinking that if I let myself wait for the mailman anxiously every single time there is a meeting I just might go crazy--especially if my application isn't even looked at again for a long while. What a waste of perfectly good anxiety! 😉 I'm thinking I'll just get on with my life and if my mailbox is graced by a large brown envelope some time soon I'll be happy and if not I'll just not sweat it (yeah right!).

After last month's Friday meeting, many (most I believe) got email notification first thing the following monday morning that they had been placed in the competitive applicant pool. Apparently UW does not admit many people at the onset. Acceptances and rejections are sent by mail. So, unless someone received an email, I have to wonder if the adcom actually met this past Friday?

It doesn't seem like they did. It was the office that told me they were meeting, but if nobody's received any e-mails, then your hearts can drop out of your throats now 😛
