I'm going into my 5th month of waiting. I just wanna hear one way or the other so that I can get on with my life and plan for the fall.
I think it was my impromptu strip tease accompanied by the fire eating and baton twirling. 🙂

Does anyone know the rules on trying to switch your 1st year site. I'm a MT WWAMI and am looking to spend next year in Moscow/Pullman. I know people have done this in the past. I'm not sure who I should call and how it works. Thanks!
When I was interviewing, a student told me that someone has to agree to trade with you (her example was Seattle student switching places with MT student). I would call your WWAMI supervisor, I guess (or maybe the one in Moscow).
I am not sure there was a meeting yesterday... it isn't boxed in black anymore... and what the heck is up with the "box" around Friday?? Are they meeting? Ahhhhh....

Didn't they cancel a meeting last week as well? 😕 I hope that Friday's meeting isn't cancelled as well, but at this point it dosen't really make much difference, does it? We'll all hear something in two weeks (just hope that because of all of these cancelled meetings that the final EXCOM meetings aren't delayed).
I'm giving myself the entire first week of April as the possible time to hear from them, don't want to set my sights on Monday and then be bummed out when it doesn't come until Tuesday. Man I hate this.

I posted this in the match list thread but thought the more focused group in this thread might increase the chance of a response. Does anyone know where to find UW match lists? I've tried finding this year's on their website but the only thing I can find is the list for MSTPs. I'd be interested in seeing any recent lists, not just this year's, thanks.

I'm just glad that it is finally going to be over so that I can start planning for the upcoming school year.

Friday's meeting was most likely for applicants who had interviewed that week. On the calendar, it shows there were last minute interviews scheduled for instate applicants. Pool applications probably won't be reviewed until next week, and we'll hear earliest April 2nd.

I just wanted to wish all of you luck...I know exactly how you feel, since I was in the same position you are in now. Now look at me, I'm enjoying life(trying to anyway) in WWAMI land WSU/UI. I really do feel like it has been an amazing year, so I guess in retrospect it was worth it to go through all the stress of the "competitive pool". Anyways, just wanted to send a shout out to keep your hopes up. I guess old habits don't change even when you're in med school(since I'm procrastinating from studying for my biochem final)

I spoke with Brooke today. She said that there are more than 400 WA residents in the pool, and approximately 30 WA seats left to be given out this week. She also said that there are generally 20 ranked waitlist spots, of which most are usually granted acceptance. So I figure that we have an approximately 50/400 chance, or 1/8 chance in getting accepted these next few days. For me, that was really depressing to hear. I didn't realize that the "pool" was more like an ocean.😱
Wow! Thanks for the update. I had no idea that there were that many people still in the pool. Although, it seems like UW does interview a lot of people and doesn't generally reject too many people right after the interview. That's still smaller chance than i had thought! 😱 Good luck to everyone this next week.
Was she able to tell you about where you are in the pool of 400? I have pretty much come to terms with the fact that I'll probably not get in there.... too many super star WA residents... at least there were on my interview day.
I don't think that the pool works like that. Rather, it is a group of people that are equal in their potential standing at UW and will all be revisited these next few days. I'm pretty bummbed that I have such a small chance for acceptance at UW, and I have come to accept the fact that I will be attending med school out of state.🙁
Hmmm, I knew that the pool was generally that large at the end of the interviewing season, but I didn't realized that there would only be 30 unfilled spots left for Washingtonians. I was under the impression that more than half of all acceptances were decided at the end. That is disappointing. How many of you folks have other acceptances right now and know where you will be going if you don't get into UW?
Yea, I, too, thought that something like 40% of people in the pool either were accepted or waitlisted, but there is no way that this is possible this year. I think that UW needs to raise its bar on who it automatically interviews. Plus, only 100 spots for Washington residents is far too small for the number of qualified residents in a state this large.
Unless some miracle occurs this week, I will be moving to Kentucky to attend UK. I really liked the school, and in many ways it is exactly opposite the 'dub. I would have given anything to stay local for med school, though. I guess I will just have to try to return here for residency.

I called and they said they will release decisions as early as Monday, but most likely Tuesday. If you do not receive an email on Monday or Tuesday it means you have not gotten in and you will receive a rejection letter in the mail. I agree, 100 spots for Washington residents is sort of absurd.
I've been on 7 interviews (including UW) and don't have any acceptances yet. I have been placed on 1 waitlist, 1 active consideration, and haven't heard back from most schools yet. Still holding out for UW as I don't have an official back up plan yet 🙁 .
Hope you get in somewhere! How does UW stack up against the other places that you interviewed?
I should have mentioned that I'll be at UNC in Chapel Hill, North Carolina if I don't end up at UW. It has been my second-choice school all along (perhaps tied with one other originally), so I'm very happy to be in a win-win situation right now. You and I may be in the south together, Rising Sun, though not especially close.
By far my favorite. I'm from Seattle (UW undergrad), so I'm familiar with it and feel at home there. The facilities aren't the greatest, but the price and ranking are unbeatable. The other schools are all private northeast schools...Temple, Jefferson, Tufts, Mount Sinai, and a couple others I can't think of right now. Gotta love the NW though!
What did you think of Mount Sinai? I regretted not applying there until I received my acceptance from UNC, and still sort of wish that I had given it a chance.
I actually think that this is still a true number, as they repeat it every year in the dreaded you're-in-the-pool e-mail. (I think they say 39%, actually.) It's just that many people are placed on the unranked waiting list, which doesn't usually move very much. Sigh.
I turned down interviews at a number of places with a cold climate after being accepted at UK, most of them were in the NE but none of the places you mentioned. I feel really lucky with where I have had a chance to interview, but I'm bitter that there are so few chances to get an MD out west (there are more and more places that offer a DO popping up all the time, though; a new school is even opening up in Yakima of all places next year). We need more options!

Mount Sinai was pretty cool. It was my first time to NYC, so the city itself was a bit overwhelming at first. However, Sinai is in a great location (right by Central Park) and they have a pretty diverse patient base. The students all seemed to like the school and they have some pretty neat programs (human simulation centers and actors that play patients for students to practice with). They also aren't affiliated with an undergrad institution, so there are lots of opp for med students to do research without a lot of competition.
Whoa, I didn't know that. They should open up another allopathic medical school in Tacoma or Spokane. Our state certainly serves a large enough population to justify it, even if we were to exclude the other WWAMI states.
Edit: I don't mean to imply that I think that the other WWAMI states should be excluded, mind you, neither from UW nor from any other school that may be built in Washington some day. We are all one state when it comes to medical school, rightly and fairly. I actually think that it would be cool if Oregon were to join the northwest fold, making OHSU and UW in-state schools for all of WOWAMI. I digress.
That leaves only OHSU, Stanford, and USC (all of which rejected me
). UN Reno is out of the question, as is UofArizona and UofUtah (although a WA friend of mine with family ties to Utah interviewed there this year). The next closest schools are Creighton and the midwest state schools. Argh! Why do we on the west coast have so few options?😕I am pretty certain I will be going to penn state next year... which I am very content with. Good luck to everyone.
Also, Loma Linda (if you don't mind the religious aspect) and Colorado (if you dont mind the 47K+ tuition) are also west coast options.
