Hey busybee, I interviewed on January 7th, exactly four weeks ago. I was surprised to get the phone call this afternoon from Dr. Helderman, since I had previously thought I would hear back about 8 weeks after my interview (i.e. sometime around the beginning of March). When did you interview?

I was wondering if Vandy gives secondaries to all of their applicants. Also can anyone give me an idea of what Vandy's secondary essay questions were like? I'm not applying to medical school until the summer of 2006.

Hi PHD, the unique thing about Vandy's application process is that they first screen applicants on various measures (I do not know the details of this process) and then send out secondaries in conjunction with an interview invitation to applicants who pass this threshold. In the past, about 900 people have been interviewed for the 105 slots or so. The secondary consists of a few essays, including an autobiography.

Damn it, my home phone has been ringing but I haven't been answering because this survey lady called and I told her to call back later. I didn't feel like answering the survey after all so I decided to let the machine pick up. I kept think that the lady was pretty persistent, 3 calls??? At what time did you get the call? I'm probably getting my hopes up for nothing... Note to self: get caller ID!

Thanks Canuck! I hope those phone calls for you were from Dr. Helderman 🙂 He called twice--the first time, I had my phone turned off because I was at work (afternoon) so I missed it, then he called again later in the evening. Haha, you should have gotten a called ID! That way, you know when the Tennessee area code comes up.

i interviewed on 12/17 and haven't heard anything yet. 🙁 i had called the admissions office and linda said said our group was being reviewed 3rd week of february. however, i did ask her in what way we would be notified, and she said by snail mail!! :-O that's a bad sign right??? cuz everyone else got a phone call. oh well... i'll still try to keep some hope.

Ardemus, I hope you get that call this month! It doesn't appear that the admissions committee reviews applications in chronological order of interview date, so you could hear sooner! From the anecdotal evidence here, it seems to be all over the map. Perhaps the answser you got from Linda over the phone was the standard one (i.e. receive notice by snail mail) so as to not induce a rush of phone calls by everyone all at once. I definitely wouldn't view it is an indicator of outcome. Keep up the hope--here's to seeing ya for second look in April! 🙂
