Visiting PGY-1 Programs

I am an atypical residency candidate. I graduated in 2012; I applied twice but did not match. I am considering visiting some programs in the Northeast in November. I am already traveling to the Northeast for family. I am from the Southeast and would like to learn more about these programs. I was wondering how residencies viewed candidates visiting programs before Midyear and if this helped the candidates to obtain an interview. Thanks.

I would try and figure out if there are any local/regional residency showcases while you're in the area.

To be exact MSHP is having a residency showcase October 26th (Saturday) at Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis MD. What's nice is not only residencies from MD will attend but surrounding states of DE, PA, DC, and VA will be there.

I visited some programs and got interviews there too so I think it's a great idea!
