Please tell me I'm not the only one baffled by some of the VMCAS application questions.

Hopefully this thread will be helpful in answering our questions concerning the application, since many of us will be going through the process at the same time. Good luck, everyone! 🙂

What kind of questions do you have? Maybe I've already asked/know and I can help.

Thanks! I really appreciate your offer.

The Classification Description area for each course added has me confused a bit. I apologize if my question is a bit silly, but I just want to be 100% accurate.

It seems like the only option for completed courses is "Not Applicable". However, the school I currently attend has a few classes available online, as well as in person, so many of my completed classes were online. Do I then choose "Not Applicable" for those courses? Or do I choose "Online Course"? (I wasn't sure if the "Online Course" option should only be used if for specific classes not widely available that need to be taken at completely different schools, such as Animal Nutrition).

Hmmm... I think and please don't quote me on this but I think if you took them online then you need to label them as online. The only class I took online was french at my local community college and I put not applicable because I was in a rush to get through my coursework but now I'm think I should probably change it to online. Hopefully someone who knows better will give you a definitive answer, I'm sorry I couldn't help more.

You were a big help 🙂 Thank you very much! I appreciate it! 🙂

I have a question also related to the "Classification Description" section. For a course that was retaken, do we list both the initial and second attempts as "repeated"?

Was the initial attempt completed or was it a withdrawn course?

It was completed, not withdrawn.

I found this, so I hope it helps 🙂

"Q: How do I report repeated courses in the Academic Coursework section?

A: List each time you took the course as it appears on your transcript. When entering the first instance of a class you've repeated, select "Not Applicable" for the Classification Description. Select "Repeated" for the Classification Description for each instance of repeating the class."

Good luck!

on the same note... I withdrew from a course, would that be considered incomplete then?

Perfect, thanks a bunch!

@cadisestrama Good question, anyone know the answer to this one? So far, I've labeled my withdrawn courses as "incomplete."

Hi all! I started entering my info into VMCAS and had a quick question. The student reported GPA section; it states to put the GPA from the school where you received your degree, or the most credits. So, for me, that GPA is going to be lower than it would if I was able to include the 15 other classes I added to it within the past 2 years.

Do the schools look at that self reported GPA, or the one where you include all your classes? Maybe I just haven't gotten that far in the app yet.

Thanks!

I have the same issue. I planned on contacting VMCAS to ask just haven't yet. I read and re-read the instructions and my understanding is that it should be your degree school's. I put the gpa from my primary school (where I earned my BA) although my post-bacc gpa is much higher. Most schools want to see your science, pre-req and/or last 45 credits so it shouldn't be a problem.

Yep. The schools will have all your transcripts. They'll calculate what they want.

Anyone else have this issue?
I am getting a B.S. in Biology, but I also have two minors: Chemistry and Art. I can't figure out how to list both. Under Institutions Attended I put "B.S. Bachelor of Science" for Degree; then "Biology" for Major for Degree; then I only see one spot for "Minor for Degree", in which I put Art. Any way to list Chemistry also? Minors aren't that important, but I'd like to put it if possible since I took extra classes and stuff..

IIRC, you would just mention your second minor in the explanation section since there isn't really a space for it.

This is probably a dumb question, but for the planned/in progress courses, under the classification, do we just put Incomplete? I don't want to imply that I plan on dropping them- they are just currently incomplete because I don't take them until the upcoming Fall or Spring semester. Thanks!

According to the VMCAS instructions:

The process for entering planned/in progress courses is similar to the process for entering completed courses. When adding a Planned/In Progress session, select “Planned/In Progress” in the Session Status section.

Your entire "Session", not your individual courses, should be checked off as either Completed or In Progress.

No, definitely list them as "not applicable" or "online" or whatever. Do NOT list incomplete unless you have dropped the course. The entire semester will show up as in progress/planned so there is no need to place "incomplete" for each class since "incomplete" means something entirely different than "in progress"
