just tried calling admissions to see if we could find out if this actually means they're updating portals... no answer :/ I have to go to work, but if anyone else wants to try calling in a bit and letting us all know, that'd be super cool 🙂 I think it's more than fair to call and be like "my application is gone, just want to make sure it's all good, oh and btw, can we just know what's going on here?" hahaha waiting is killing me!!

I emailed on Tuesday, they said they were working on the evaluations to get them done as soon as possible so they knew who to invite for interviews.

Wait, Tuesday as in yesterday? And did they mean that they were still reviewing the letters of recommendation, or did they mean that the ADCOM had already evaluated everyone and they're just going through all of the ADCOM's evaluations now?

My portal also says 'application not found.'
... I wonder what this means?

My says the same thing as everyone else: 'application not found.' I've called and left a voicemail for Ms. Massie. In addition of doing that, I have also emailed her. Has anyone else tried getting in touch with her and actually got a hold of her?

Okay, change of topic! Instead of us being nervous nellies, why don't we get to know each other better? After all, some of us could end up being classmates!!!! =)

Who all is in state? Or out of state? What unique interests do you have in the field of Vet Med?

I am a Virginia resident. I am interested in parasitic diseases of wild carnivores, infectious diseases (particularly those with a high zoonotic risk), and improving patient care and treatment options for animals with tick-borne diseases and neglected parasitic infections.

I am a Maryland resident- I am not exactly positive what road I want to go down yet but I have an interest in large animal medicine (esp ruminants/food safety/public health) and equine.

On a different note- I have worked in the lab animal field now for a few years as a tech- very interesting as well! 🙂

IS from VA, 1st time applicant, with interests zoonotic disease transmission and public health. Been involved in research full time for the past 2.5 years working on projects ranging from tick-borne (mostly Rickettsia and Borrelia) disease dynamics and genetics to the regulation of dynein/dynactin in rat and murine hippocampal neurons.

I'm from NJ as well!! I've always been interested in small animal until an internship last summer and realized I want to go into equine! I probably have less vet experience than most but I'm a division I athlete and National Champion so hoping that will sell me haha!

I'm a MD resident interested in equine therio and zoo medicine. Career-wise, I'm definitely leaning more towards therio (they say you have to wait for a zoo vet to die before you can get a job in the field), but primates have always been a serious interest of mine, as I worked as a zookeeper and read a lot of Jane Goodall 🙂 Started working for a local equine therio vet 2 years ago when I severely needed more hours, and I've been hooked ever since. I scheduled my classes next semester around foal watching 🙂

NY resident here. I have been working as a canine physical therapist for a few years. I'm planning to continue expanding my knowledge and experience with orthopedic/neurologic conditions, and potentially pursue a surgery residency.

Hey I'm a division I athlete too! What's your sport? Mines lacrosse 🙂

I'm from Mass and am interested in large animal ambulatory, but also really enjoyed my internship at a wildlife clinic last summer!

I'm a VA resident, first time applicant. Really interested in the dual DVM/MPH program, and I'm surprised at how many other people here are interested in public health! I got to work at the Virginia Department of Agriculture last semester and the stuff they do is amazing!! Also really interested in lab animal medicine, as I have about 3yrs of immunological research experience with malaria-infected mice.

Hello everyone!

I'm a VA resident.

My main interest is aquatic/wildlife medicine. I have been working in ER small animal for the past two years. I'm so excited for 2016- I'm an older applicant (26yo) and I am ready to start training for my dream career!

First time applicant from North Carolina! I am interested in going in to private mixed practice and am especially interested in reptiles and other exotics! The majority of my experience is with mixed practice but I have also done some shelter medicine, research, and wildlife husbandry work. I am also interested in conservation medicine and will be going to Belize this June for a month to work with monkeys and manatees! Figured it would give me something to look forward to after I graduate in May, regardless of if I get in to vet school this year 🙂 Nice to meet everyone!

I play field hockey!! A lot of my friends are on the lacrosse team at my school

Hi guys! I applied for c/o 2020 as well, and have been reading these threads for a while and decided to make an account for myself tonight haha . So if interviews didn't go out today, does anyone have an idea of when we should expect them now or is totally up in the air because of the VMCAS problem?

also, I'm out of state (Chicago) and am a senior at UC Berkeley

An update about the application page: the reason we can no longer access the page is because Banner is undergoing an update. We will be able to access it after receiving an email indicating such.

Huh. Do you know if it's more of an aesthetic update or if it's being updated with more information? If it's just aesthetic, they picked a horrible time to do so!! Oh, my nerves :arghh:

I love that there are so many public health people on here! I'm a first-time IS applicant from Virginia. My experiences are all over the place (SA and equine shadowing here, LA and wildlife hours in Belize) but the majority is in microbiology research on a feline gut pathogen. I'm really interested in infectious disease, especially zoonotics, and would like to get into something in the research or public health fields. Nice to meet you all!

Wait, Tuesday as in yesterday? And did they mean that they were still reviewing the letters of recommendation, or did they mean that the ADCOM had already evaluated everyone and they're just going through all of the ADCOM's evaluations now?

Yes, Tuesday as in 12/15. She gave me a tentative deadline which I will not share because we're all nervous enough as it is. I don't know what ADCOM is, but she did say they were working on evaluations.

And now on to the getting to know one another bit. I'm an OOS applicant from NC, applying to vet school for the first time. I worked in a toxicology/pathology lab for 2 years which is how I discovered my interest in veterinary pathology. I also worked in a neuroscience lab for 2 years as an undergrad, so I looked at a lot of mouse brains. I want to become an anatomic veterinary pathologist, tentatively looking at clinical vet path. When I was working, the impression I got was that clin path was lots and lots of blood slides and not nearly as fun to look at as anatomic path slides. It was fun to watch my progression of recognition of organs from when I first started to when I left. Cleaning slides for archives was one of those boring tasks they gave you to start out, and I spent a lot of time wondering what I was looking at since about the only thing I could recognize was brains. Towards the end, I was beginning to recognize mammary tumors because A) they're usually huge B) they're obnoxiously common in Sprague-Dawley rats. Some days, I really miss what I used to do for a living, but then I remember I wanted to do more than just become a manager because that's the highest I could get with a bachelor's degree.

My application is back on the portal, but I don't see anything related to interview invitations on it. At least the portal seems to be fixed though!

Yeah so I'm floored by the number of applicants who are interested in the different facets of public health. Seems like we'd all be very intellectually compatible if we were to become classmates! If we have enough people interested in the public health/ corporate track, we'll likely have good luck getting university endorsement for new initiatives (potentially overseas!) and research programs, which is a very exciting prospect.

CA resident, I worked in biomedical research for two years on chromatin remodeling, working as a small animal tech for going on three years now, and recently interned at a wildlife center for three months. Interests include dentistry, surgery, and zoonotic diseases. I'm really hoping for an interview this year, was on the wait list last year.

Oooooh, so did your work revolve around epigenetic silencing/activation? That stuff is incredibly cool to me. Gotta love how it turns out that Lamarckian inheritance isn't entirely bunk 😛

OOS, first time applicant. I'm interested in SA private practice with a focus on small mammal exotics 🙂 I also have a soft spot for shelter medicine but not sure if I'd want to pursue that.

Yes! We studied specifically how linker histones load onto chromatin and what proteins/ATPases are involved in the process. It's neat stuff, I still read the papers coming out of my former lab. 😀
