Anyone know any good volunteer work and EC for pharmacy school...do they look for anything specific or what?

I think beyond the expected pharmacy volunteer/work experience, they also look for people who exhibit true altruism, and by that I mean taking on a volunteer position that in no way betters their own goals. There are tons of different volunteer positions you can do outside of pharmacy and hospital positions such as being a mentor through the YWCA, Habitat for Humanity, etc...

I volunteered as a means to get a pharmacy job. After having pharmacy experience - I simply got involved in the things I like to do. I did motivational speaking - and I also did YMCA coaching. As long as you are covering your pharmacy exp requirement (its becoming a must) - feel free to get involved with whatever makes you passionate.

The Best type of volunteering that works with my schedule in the meantime is volunteering at my schools Breast cancer awareness events etc is that relevant volunteering? what if i dont have any Pharmacy volanteer hours?

Pharmacy volunteer experience is not required, it just looks really good and is good exposure to the profession. Try to get some healthcare relevant volunteering or experience if you cannot get into a pharmacy. For example, I started in the ER when I couldn't find anything else available, but eventually got into a pharmacy.

To piggyback, it gives a really easy answer to the question "why pharmacy?"

sil3ntli8t: I understand what you mean. I found my "pharmacy" experience in a medication room at a clinic for the uninsured. The times they wanted me were after work and on evenings I didn't have class. I just about gave up because all the hospitals wanted lots of time, during the day, and whenever they wanted to call me. Keep looking, you'll find something.

The Director of Admissions of UH came to my school and she said that any kind of volunteer work/community service work is ok. It doesn't have to be pharmacy related. Doing what you love is good enough and it shows out your character, that's how she put it.
She said pharmacy volunteer work was more for experience not community service.
