Hello everyone: I know there was a thread with a similar topic but I can't seem to find it. I did a search and I came up with several threads with people discussing low gpa's. Anyway, I decided to take some time off from school and was wondering where I could find information on volunteering overseas. The peace corps has a two year requirement. I would prefer a one year commitment. Any suggestions will be much appreciated. You could also send me the link to the thread.
Thank you.

very comprehensive directory of organizations:

I spent a few weeks in Peru over the summer and I did it through a volunteer organization called Cross-Cultural Solutions. It was a great experience, but I think the longest stay they have is 3 months. But you can go anywhere in the world. The website I think is www.crossculturalsolutions.com. If thats not it then google it! :luck:

The problem with a lot of these programs is that you have to pay a lot of money to "volunteer" with them. Watch out for that! I've heard some sketchy things about several of these organizations. Do you have a particular locations/programs in mind? I've got some extensive study and volunteer experience in Africa/South America if you are interested in those places...PM me if you are!

I spend a month this past summer volunteering with an organization called Child and Family Health International. It is an AMAZING organization that allows serious hands on experiences in places like South Africa and El Salvador. Yes, you pay to do it but it is worth it. However, the program runs in 1 month increments. I would STRONGLY recommend it!!!
